Definitely Figgy!
Way to cap off the sweep, fellas. Figures, the only loss on this homestand so far was the game I went to. Enjoy your day off guys
Hooters anyone?

I vote Naps
Crucial walk sets up winning run, crucial throwout of A-Rod at third prevents go-ahead run, and otherwise goes 2-for-3.
I agree
That Naps played great…and that throw was right on the money, but ARod beat it. Credit to Figgy there also for selling it.

Robinson Cano for panther
for half-assing after Figgy’s hit more than I’ve ever seen someone do so…ESPECIALLY considering the circumstance.

You should see the scorching article in the New York Times criticizing Cano for losing the game today.
I loved Torii's quote in that same article.
Pretty much declaring that he was glad that the play was not that of the Halos, otherwise he would have been in the clubhouse arguing with the teammates right now!
Francisco Rodriguez: 191 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
In the LA Times story, Girardi hesitated to put any blame on Cano saying, "He did'nt see the play, and he would have to take a look at a replay too see."
Baloney he was’nt watching that play from the dugout today as Figgy’s ball went dribbling through the infield in slow motion as his players suffered brain freeze trying to field the ball.
Funny, I heard that
from a Yankees fan I was walking down the ramp with to the parking lot. Neither of Wilson Betemit or Cano made even the remotest try for the ball. The Rally Monkey had ‘em jinxed, I guess.

REFUSE TO LOSE!
Def Figgy. 2 big RBIs and the sweet tag on A-Rod that sent him into a tizzy. Naps a close 2nd.
Figgy all the away
Came through against Mo. Figgy also drove in the game’s 1st run.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!
Figgs with the best game, oddly enough.
2-5 with a run and 2 ribbies.
*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!
Frankie
strikes out the side in the 9th or we’re meat. Should get a half panther.
?

Almost as good as

“HIQTIYQ” (Hi cutie, I like you—probably the densest use of letters on any licence plate ever)
Witty .sig goes here.
this series reminded a bit of the July 1979 series against the Yanks
July 13, 14, and 15—an Angels sweep but with two 9th inning walk off wins. Here is the box to the July 15th game.

Angels in 08!
Napoli wears the crown
Great ABs, great defense. I would give it to Figgins but I agree with Caseys, it almost looks like Cano tanked that last play. Strange
Figgy
I have a tie between Figgy and K-Rod. Give to Figgy becuase he has been struggling a bit lately so it’s nice to see him come through on both O and D.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.
It just keeps getting better and better...
...7-3 road trip to Baltimore/Boston/New York, 5-1 home stand (so far), 14 game lead, and a SWEEP OF THE SPANKEES!!!
I so love this team!!!
....and, uh…Figgy gets my vote.
Don't know about the Evil Ones in general
But it sure as hell looked like Cano did.
Angels fan since '67
Figgy for sure
with Napoli also very good, and (despite myself)...GMJ…?! Yeah, he beat out an infield hit, then later after getting a couple of bullsh!t strikes still hung in there and worked a walk, then in a seemingly awful AB in the 9th he actually stepped up by thinking outside the box. He knew he was likely to GIDP so he very shrewdly struck out, making one out instead of two and preserving Kendrick on the basepaths to eventually score the winning run. So great game Gary Matthews Jr.! WAY to go!!! (I say in a positive reinforcement kind of way)
GMJ
That explains the third strike. I mean, it was so far out of the box that even Vlad wouldn’t have swung at it!
Angels fan since '67
K-Rod
Figgy just got a ‘lousy single’ to win the game, but K-Rod cut the Yankees’ throat in the top of the 9th inning, striking out the side.
Actually...
I vote for K-Rod, shutting them out in the ninth, with honorable mention to Figgy, Naps, and Hokie Joe (for manning up after the first, and shutting them down).
Angels fan since '67
Angels got a huge break
according to the radio guys A-Rod was safe at third. If the rest of the inning goes the same, it’s 4-3 Yankees and the Yanks bring in Mo to save it in the ninth. Bad breaks are part of the game, etc., but I’ll take this one.
Witty .sig goes here.
It was super close, bang-bang, and the throw was right on the money
In the pantheon of bad calls, it wasn’t that bad a call. The strike zone, though, was just brutal & random.
I call him safe, but only because I have the advantage of frame by frame TiVo.
If this were the NFL, a Yankee appeal would have been upheld. Which is, of course, the absurdity of NY sports channels showing that replay over and over. It allows them to live for hours within a moment that lasted only 1/10th of a second. Without instant replay on events like that, it is incumbent on ARod to do a better job of getting to that base so that there is no chance of error in any decision.
Francisco Rodriguez: 191 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
Yeah ... I dunno about that
I watched the Yankee’s feed replay a million times (those announcers were ticked) and honestly, it was the closest call I’ve ever seen. A tie through and through.
I wouldn’t have called him safe, I would have seen it as a tie, and had to have made a judgement call, just like the ump did. Glad it went in our favor.

Short version is...the throw beat ARod to the bag...ump called him out!
tag was shitty by Figgy, but you see worse calls than that daily!
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?
Pather goes to snacks
after a month on the dl, he’s already got more hits than he probably had in the 10 games before he went out. plus the nice throughout of the arod (his first throughout since may 16th, which is 15 consecutive stealers)
Howie
What about Howie….great over the shoulder catch as well as getting on base in the ninth!
Pleeeeazzzzzzze Frankie, close the games, don't make them closer!
The funniest part of the game...
was when Frankie struck out Giambi in the top of the 9th. He did his usual celeberation move, but he’s so used to getting the save that I think he forgot the game was still tied. HA HA!
He looked around for a second after walking off the mound and had this look on his face like “oh shit, the games not over… my bad.”
Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up at the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake... the K-Rod!
