G.A. is my panther
also, the pre-season pick to win the A.L. West is about 2 weeks away from being mathematically eliminated from the division title.

Wow. That is really something.
I guess I kind of knew this, but seeing it written out like that just serves as a reminder about the lack of respect this team gets. That’s all changing/gonna-change now. No matter the signings or the losses, things had better be different pre-09.
But then again, who gives a shit. Let them eat crow.
White trashin' the 909
REFUSE TO LOSE!
I’ll keep sayin it. Doesn’t bother me one bit.
Vlad’s cannonball sunk the seamen’s ship. He gets my vote.
Someone needs to go back through all of our archives
and divide up our posters into two types of people from now on:
Those who always supported G.A., and those who did not.
Those who did not shall have to wear a scarlet letter in their signature FOREVER.

All that love for getting one hit?
Francisco Rodriguez: 192 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
No
all that love for batting .371 with 7 homers and 32 RBIs with an OPS over 1.000 since the end of June.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 12, 2008 9:50 PM PDT up reply actions
Small sample size.
Francisco Rodriguez: 192 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
I hope you're being contrary just for the sake of being so
being the hottest player on the team for a quarter of a season isn’t an unfairly small sample size AT ALL. Considering he did the exact same thing last year at this time of year, and it continued on through the entire second half, and considering he got MASSIVELY shit-upon for being mediocre-to-bad in the first half, its pretty fair to scoff at all the naysayers who insisted he was done during that half.
Plus, considering he’s ARGUABLY the greatest Angel (guys who are ‘career’ players) of all time, and that the lazy-joke about him actually is the product of a legitimately held belief, the man is due for a good sized helping of love after he’s received relatively little for so long.

Yes. I am being contrarian for the sake of it.
But, as this is the honor system, I was one of those who got on GA’s case for being so MASSIVELY bad in the first half.
Francisco Rodriguez: 192 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
I would label his first half
as being horribly, horribly, streaky. He’d have a good weeks scattered amongst really, really bad ones. In the end of the first half, I think he had like a 92 OPS+. Bad, but not apocalyptic…which is the impression I get from reading the comments around here.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 12, 2008 10:24 PM PDT up reply actions
Geez. Apocalyptic is THE personality definition of this place
whenever the Halos falter. Don’t worry too much about any special treatment for GA.
Francisco Rodriguez: 192 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
That's okay
90% of that sarcasm is probably mine…so it just needs to get discarded when looking for true G.A. hate.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 13, 2008 12:35 AM PDT up reply actions
If GA weren't so lazy
190% of that sarcasm would be yours.
by TheTypingFiend on Aug 13, 2008 12:53 AM PDT up reply actions
But if Gary Matthews Jr. were playing left field
none of the sarcasm would be mine, because it would have fallen to the ground after GMJ dropped it.
And if Juan Rivera got regular playing time, my sarcasm would be producing more consistently.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 13, 2008 1:07 AM PDT up reply actions
Which begs the question
would your sarcasm be good for the grass out there in left?
by TheTypingFiend on Aug 13, 2008 1:13 AM PDT up reply actions
Me too.
I’ve always been a GA fan. At my first time at Anaheim in about 20 years, I only wound up with an Ersty T-shirt because the stand I was at didn’t have a GA.
Angels fan since '67
Poser... If GA wasn't so lazy he'd take some masking tape and cover up the
ersty and put an Anderson on the back.
17 is a harder number to get to the 16.
Ergo, wearing an Erstad shirt takes more effort than an Anderson shirt.

Let's start with the honor system
GA is my man. Always has been. 2 more years, 2 more years, 2 more years!
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.
by vladtheimpaler on Aug 12, 2008 9:50 PM PDT up reply actions
I'd fall in the GA hater camp
He was so good for so long, then the injuries came and his power went. You’d have to look a the last two seasons together to come up with a one good one.
You are what you type.

by GarretSaysSuckIt on Aug 13, 2008 4:14 PM PDT up reply actions
His totals from last year came up to a 114 OPS+
His style of being bad in the first half, and explosive in the second half, and getting that kind of overall very good production isn’t really any different than a streaky guy who is good one day, and bad the next for an entire season. It’s different in his splits, sure…but the end result if the same kind of production…and I’d rather it be second half production than first half.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 13, 2008 7:04 PM PDT up reply actions
Seriously
How can you hate an all time Angel top 5 player? Seriously, how can you hate a player who has done great things for us in the last two years? Without GA, we may not have won the division last year.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.
by vladtheimpaler on Aug 15, 2008 4:09 AM PDT up reply actions
Vlad
GA’s RBI’s didn’t end up mattering, although they looked like they were going to.
http://inplaynoouts.blogspot.com/ - A blog about teams I like, written by me.
Big Daddy "don't ever count me out" Vladdy
Though I voted for Judy,Judy,Judy in the poll and GA sure knows how to keep a hitting streak going.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.
Oh, and Frankie owes Tex and Soth a steak dinner for the save.

i found the frickin’ video! :P
j/k, kids.
but seriously, Panther goes to Johnny Ringo, who went 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
Mike Scioscia: He provides to unlike method of your team member.
by the way... here's a fun stat.
since the beginning of July, the Angels have gone 21-5 (including tonight) when Rivera starts in the game.
eat that, GMJ.

Well, put it this way.
When Juan DOESN’T start, we’re 5-4 in the same time period.

GOT IT!
since the beginning of July, we are 7-8 when GMJ starts a game.
i could be wrong, but that’s what I came up with.
i’ll take Juan’s 21-5 record any day of the week…

where we went like 1-3.

Rivera.
He had the best game at the plate of anybody.
I would have given it to Garland, but he only pitched 7, costing me a point. by not making it into the 8th.

So...
At first I was feeling like “aw, poor Seattle, I feel guilty. We don’t need to beat them up to get the division. It’s like we’re kicking someone when they’re down or bullying them.”
But then, out of idle curiosity, I meandered over to Lookout Landing and found their game thread littered with juvenile homophobia.
Thanks, LL. I feel much better now.

LL
Why is that they hate the angels/anaheim/california/life so much? I really don’t understand. And the pseudo-intellectualism kinda bugs. Is it the city of Seattle itself? I really never minded the Mariners, except for 1995, but all this hate strikes me as strange.
Lookout Landing sponsors Scioscia's player page on baseball reference!!!
Seems strange to me.

That was an ongoing joke around here, as the M's faded, then folded.
Ther are probably more than one HH’er waiting for their official elimination date so that this “sponsorship” can be brought back to their attention.
Francisco Rodriguez: 192 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
it was in retaliation, i think
Jeff from LL was pissed off that the Rev sponsored some of the Mariners’ pages (can someone confirm? I can’t remember), so he took Scioscia’s page.
Obviously, the funniest part about it is that his prediction about his beloved team now reads like sarcasm, which it wasn’t.
Vlad
I was at the game, sitting in section 304, Row A with a perfect view of his HR. That ball was unequivocally the hardest ball I’ve ever seen hit. Never more than 30 ft above the ground and almost took out a Japanese youth all star team sitting near the rear of field level in the corner.
JUANCHOOOOOO
When he kicks ass a pitcher gives up the lead and then the one that gives us the lead back ends up getting the panther.
POTG ALL THE WAY…....and props to Big Vladdy for his huge HR.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seattle sports radio this morning...
all they could talk about was how hard Vlad hit that HR…
Description was…”if you turned up the broadcast volume, I’m pretty sure I heard the ball say OW!”
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?
funny funny funny
i pledge alliegance... to mike Scioscia
and the angels way of baseball
and to each pennant and ring we are sure to win.
