by Stirrups on Aug 15, 2008 5:28 PM PDT reply actions

I think that DP is all on Soth

That was not a point in the game to bunt. It’s still too early to be playing for one run as Weaver could give up 3 in the bottom half. Figgy is not a good bunter as mentioned and with a runner on first there is a big whole on the right side that he could have aimed for and if he hits it to the right side it’s VERY hard to turn a double play. And even if they force Mathis then Figgy is on first with the opportunity to steal against Shoppach who throws out like 14% of baserunners this year.

okay, i know yha gotta take the good woff the bad but W – T – F ?

It looks like he's always been pretty bad in that department.

Though he’s going to set a career high this year (previous high was 24, he’s at 23 now).

I blame Tex for getting on base so much

Francisco Rodriguez: 192 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.

by Stirrups on Aug 15, 2008 5:51 PM PDT up reply actions

well he also probably has the most chances.

Batting in front of Tex who is on base a lot and even Izzy who gets on 1B a lot

by MH252525 on Aug 15, 2008 5:51 PM PDT up reply actions

He's always done it a lot

his slow, bad start to this season combined with the fact that he’s always done it has just made it that much worse this year.

I think a lot of it has to do with how sharply he hits the ball. He never hits little dribblers or soft grounders, so it’s always easy to get him doubled up.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 15, 2008 5:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Bingo.

He hits the ball hard….makes a big difference.

Oh, interesting fact

Vladimir Guerrero just hit into his 216th career double play. Which ties him for 63rd all-time.

…with Rod Carew.

Interestingly enough, Derek Jeter is also amongst the all-time leaders in that category.

The GIDP king of all time? Cal Ripken.

Ripken

grounded into 32 one year, and 28 another.

A little bit of longevity, a little bit of lots-of-ground-balls.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 15, 2008 5:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Has to be a combination of being in a high-RBI spot in the lineup and being a contact hitter.

Vlad definitely fits both.

by cardinalwraith on Aug 15, 2008 5:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Jeter is actually, kind of surprisingly, a big-strike out guy

and he led off or hit second for a large part of his career.

He’s going to have struck out 9 of his 13 full seasons by the end of this year…with 3 other seasons of exactly 99 Ks. And 25% of his career plate appearances are batting 1st. Just an assload of ground balls…must have killed the Yanks a lot when he was batting second in a game and erased the lead runner.

Because the constant doom-mongering gets annoying.

Ergo, the existence of rule 3.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Aug 15, 2008 6:07 PM PDT up reply actions

doom-mongering is not complaining about one bad bullpen decision

we can lose this game, and probably most of the future ones, and still make the playoffs. If I can’t decry a terrible bullpen decision, then what’s the point of a game thread?

Also, sending out your best middle relief guy isn’t really a terrible decision.

Arredondo has a great ERA

because he only allows someone else’s runners to score.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 15, 2008 6:02 PM PDT reply actions

I hope that's true.

Because he needs to sort himself and quick.

by ViolaHalo on Aug 15, 2008 6:03 PM PDT up reply actions

arredondo can't pitch with runners on because he has a fastball he can't control

and a slider that he can’t get all the way to the plate. he’s unhittable, but he’s walkable.
