The 2008 Scouting Report, By The Fans, For The Fans

For the sixth year in a row, I am once again asking for hardcore baseball fans to participate in the annual Scouting Report project, in which you evaluate the fielding characteristics of players on your team. If you have a few minutes, please drop by and evaluate your team:

HE FIXED IT !

Unlike anyone else on the internet, someone listened to Angels fans!

(if you are late to this thread, he had the team’s name listed as “Anaheim Angels”)

I am glad to see it. Judging by the posts on this thread it was 30 second deal.

HAULDOG has a good point...

How can we expect accuracy when the name of the team is not even listed accurately?

Or as the zen crowd asks: Is a simulation of professionalism professional? Is your area of expertise simply appearing to be an expert?

This is deja vu

Please consider the possibility (and which I am now telling you is the fact) that the main page to which you are referring was untouched other than changing 2007 to 2008 and that, while you were kind enough to give me the suggestion last year to change the name, that it didn’t cross my mind to make the change.

In any case, I don’t think the use of colorful language is warranted (I’m surprised it’s even condoned here), regardless of how exasperated one may feel.

As for my area of expertise, I have never claimed to be an expert at anything. The only thing I know I’m really good at is being a father, and even at that, I’m far from an expert, to which my kid would surely attest.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to post here.

Then you should indeed touch that which went untouched.

You have the name of the Rays wrong too. This has a lot to do with respect as well as accuracy, something you would imagine a good father to teach his child by example.

Why would I or a Rays fan want to spend my time participating in a poll that misrepresents my team to begin with? I can’t think of a better way to defeat yourself and your poll, especially after you have gone to all the trouble to post it on every SBNation website.

Rays

Great point there as well. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

As for your perspective, I have received 19 ballots for the Rays (out of 244 total so far, which by itself make it one of the best teams represented), and not one of their fans commented on the issue. I have 2 ballots for the Angels, and I have the three comments here. It’s likely that this name issue is a sensitive issue for Angels fans because of what went on to get the name change, and for Rays fans, they really don’t care at all.

Regardless, thank you again for pointing out my Rays error. I will make the correction within the next 10 minutes (hit refresh if you don’t see the change at that time), and I hope that that will be sufficient for those that I inadvertently (or perhaps better said as carelessly) offended to participate. This really benefits all of the participants far more than it benefits me.

The majority of Rays fans are bandwagoners.

Their knowledge and willingness to defend the integrity of their own team is probably challenged. Thank you for correcting these mistakes on your website.

Change made

You can go to the main link. Hit refresh on your browser, and the Angels and Rays links have been updated.

I look forward to seeing more Angels participation.

Thanks again, Tom
