Around SBN: Reflections on the Best Blazers Month In Forever Bar-right-arrows

Poll!

Things have never looked better but as we know, theres decisions to be made in the offseason. I was curious what everyone thinks the best plan of action is in the offseason in terms of our forseeable issues...

I wish I had more to say to fill these 75 words but I really dont. Forgive this blatant wordiness. I wish I had more to say to fill these 75 words but I really dont. Forgive this blatant wordiness. I wish I had more to say to fill these 75 words but I really dont. Forgive this blatant wordiness.

Poll
If youre Tony Reagins, how do you spend the money that will presumably be available in the offseason?

i've got to go with extending Tex and then extending Lackey/other young pieces

depending on what Vlad does next year, we may or may not use him as our DH in 2010.
if we extend Tex, Lackey, Howie and a few other pitchers over the next 2-3 years, we’ll still be looking really good.
if we can’t extend Tex, then consider taking a look at Frankie… but I’m just not sold on paying him through the roof. I’d rather extend Lackey, Howie, etc. and take our chances with ET and Shields.

I forgot to include the CC Sabathia option

but that kinda feels like a pipedream anyway….so maybe it didnt really need to be on there

yeah i'm not sold on that either

as amazing as that would be, i’m not getting my hopes up

My personal to do list, if I was Reagins

1. Try to extend U-Haul, – have a proper go at it, if you want him then pay the man, 7 years max, if not Kendry starts
2. Trade GMJ, take anything
3. Bin Quinlan, it’s been fun but… Kendry needs to play
4. Decline GA’s option, offer him a lower price 1 year deal, let him know it’s his last at the club, he’ll get a nice goodbye year, sharing time with …
5. Extend Johnny Rivers – 3 year deal max, somewhere around 20m – assure him he will be playing full time next year
6. Open discussions with Lackey and Vlad (who’s option gets picked up) about extensions – these two must stay at the club through 2011 at the least
7. 5th starter – take a run at Sabathia, if not I’d look at who else is available on the market. A 1-2 year deal for a free agent veteran would give Adenhart an opportunity to mature.
8. Figgins – last arbitration year, give him 2 more on top?
9. Bring up s-rod as the utility infielder?

For me, the most important job is to extend Lackey – he’s the heartbeat of the club…

I see red people

i would do all of that except number 8

i give Wood and SRod long looks during Spring Training.
If Wood can handle it, let him take over 3B and stick Figgins back in the super-sub role.

great list though. well thought out.

time is money

Pay the $$$, but if they want too many years, then let them go.

I'm not answering this on the premise that

the season is still going on. Re-introduce this poll in late October and we’ll see.

They should

Extend Lackey, maybe even sooner than later….
Put GMJ on waivers….......
Let Frankie go…......
Trade Weaver….......
Re-sign Rivera
Re-Sign Tex 7 @ 20

Stay on the damn bag!!

by higdog on Aug 2, 2008 4:24 PM PDT   0 recs

i voted for extending teixeira

but all they talked about today was him(and boras) wanting 10 years and I definitely see the mets making a push for him and most likely the yankees too.

If hes asking 10, he’ll probably get 8. I really do think he’ll get something like 8/180

and that is stupid

by ihearhowie2.0 on Aug 2, 2008 5:15 PM PDT   0 recs

what we will

do and what we should do are very different things, yes we SHOULD lock up Krod, Rivera, Vlad, Lackey, Figgins, Give GA a one year deal sign Tex no matter what it takes etc…...
But that will only happen in fairy land where all the magical elves and pixies fart rainbows all day long.
What WILL happen;
Vlad Extension/option picked up
GA one year deal but not as cheap as we think it will be
Tex -gone to a NYC team he has stated that is where he wants to be
Rivera signed
Krod walks and gets biggest contract ever
Lackey signed
Figgins here for years to come
Q and Kendry split time next year
Weaver not traded

Relax... Everything is fine

by Sinatrasratpack on Aug 3, 2008 7:48 AM PDT   0 recs

I'll pay the extra $2 per ticket

Sign them all!

And drinking shit beer for $8 a cup won’t bother me a bit.

by yeswecan on Aug 3, 2008 4:17 PM PDT   0 recs

Let them all go....

....and pursue Eckstein, Glaus, MacPherson, both Molinas, Guillen, and Percival.
