It's a Weaver thing
Everybody can steal with Weaver on the mound, regardless of the catcher. Now if that catcher is Mathis, it’s even easier and might award you another base as well.

Weaver is out of it with 0 runs surrendered if Figgy plays his position
and catches the pop foul Weave dished up. Or, he is out of it after only 2 runs if Rivera plays his position and keeps going after that fly ball to left.
Francisco Rodriguez: 193 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.
He should be good out of the bullpen
in the playoffs.
Remember, the Rays still have plenty of time to collapse and not make the playoffs.
Meanwhile we have a 15 game lead in our division.

Agree.
Last couple of games everything seems to go against us.
If the starting pitcher is good, or even mediocre, the bullpen blows up or the offense doesn’t show up.
If the offense is good, the starting pitcher OR the bullpen blows up, or worse, we make tons of stupid mistakes.

horsecrap...it is not meaningless, three words: home field advantage
Where hk47 is trying to decide what is more overrated...closers or saves...
disagree
It’s very important for the Angels. And the way TB plays at Tropicana, we’d be wise to get it.
Where hk47 is trying to decide what is more overrated...closers or saves...
I don't know Phi...
it wouldda been nice to have Boston at home last year, instead of getting run out of Beantown down 2-0. And when we gave up the proverbial ghost of home field advantage in 2005, that didn’t help either.
I think it’s a necessity for this team.
Where hk47 is trying to decide what is more overrated...closers or saves...
Well
they way I look at it:
2002 We used not having home field very well. Taking at least one of two at the opposing stadium puts all the pressure of the other team when going back to Anaheim. We parlayed our road success that year into a WS ring.
This year we are far and away the best road team in the AL. Its not close. The NL has some good road teams, but then again they get to play the Pirates.
I would rather have rest for most of September, get the guys hot for the playoffs in the last two weeks of the season and avoid injuries.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
how's losing 5 out the last 6 treating us?
putting the Rays in the top spot in the AL. Guys on this site that are just focused on the division lead aren’t getting it…this is a big series…we lost the first two, and it’s 0-3 in this one…this game is not meaningless
Where hk47 is trying to decide what is more overrated...closers or saves...
Its a big series?
Its still August.
The Rays are a young team. Lets see how they handle the pressure of a playoff run down the stretch with big injuries against big time teams. Those teams who have clutch players, who made moves at the deadline to improve their teams.
This series would be a whole lot bigger if it was mid-September or so. Then it would be more of an indication of how the Rays are shaping up for October.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....
when you are viritually tied with a team...
and you have a three-game series in late August…that’s a big series…
I know the Rays are young, but because we lost the first two in this series, they lead the AL. So you just go ahead and tell me it’s not a big series. I am less concerned about the Rays and more concerned about us losing 5 out of 6.
Where hk47 is trying to decide what is more overrated...closers or saves...
Plus, if these two teams do meet in the play-offs...
the Rays will be very confident.
I was uncool before uncool was cool.
yup, 6-2 against us before this game; including 5-0 at the Trop
Where hk47 is trying to decide what is more overrated...closers or saves...
not saying that at all, just saying remember we have a huge lead
yes i know no lead is safe.

I can say one thing
The Angels and the Rays play the game correctly. It is by far the most exciting brand of baseball to watch.
Most other teams rely so much of the home-run, absolutely nothing happens until someone pulls one out. Its horribly boring and predictable.
Im looking at you Cardinals, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Reds, White Sox, Tigers, etc
