I think the main thing to take from this game

The Twins are trying to hit the ball over GA’s head, while the Angels are trying to hit it in front of Span.

If I was GM

I’d DFA Mathews and callup Willits

I’d DFA Speier and callup Bulger

I’d send Mathis down to AAA and callup Wilson. (Soth it’s 2008, no lineup can tolerate a guy that can barely crack the Mendoza line unless he walks and hits for Power ie Naps)

yea it's amusing that the one stat I've seen Soth use is actually a pretty useless one

He’s the same guy that uses Oliver against lefties even though the guy stands on the 3rd base side of the rubber and this year he has done MUCH better against righties at least partly because of that.

Sept 1st callups

ANAHEIM — On Sept. 1, when Major League rosters can be expanded to accommodate an infusion of organizational talent, the Angels expect to make a few additions but don’t figure to do anything on a major scale in the fashion of non-contenders giving youngsters valuable exposure.
Before Friday night’s game against the Twins, manager Mike Scioscia outlined his primary needs as a third catcher and accurate arms for the bullpen.
*********
Reggie Willits, playing for Class A Rancho Cucamonga in his return from a concussion, is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list on Sunday. That likely would return first baseman Kendry Morales to Salt Lake, adding more firepower to the Bees’ lineup for the PCL playoffs.

Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?

by K3YEROUT on Aug 22, 2008 8:47 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If Reggie ever plays another game for the Angels again

it’ll be one too many. He’s garbage, and there’s no reason for him to be on the roster over Kendry.

Mathis

He’s had 3 very solid months for a catcher but in May and August he has hit like a bad hitting pitcher. I really think he’s going to be one of those catchers that when he’s like 34 is hitting .300 like Don Slaught who I think is a good Mathis comp. But right now the Angels can’t tolerate his offense. They need some type of consistency going into the playoffs.

by MH252525 on Aug 22, 2008 8:53 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

really?

this month, he’s batting .190.
his lowest point was May, when he hit a whopping .059.

his line since the all-star break: .190/.293/.354 with 26 Ks in 25 games.

tell me why he’s playing again?
