Anyone hear about this already?
I was watching the yankees/ orioles game sunday morning. The yankees announcers mentioned a rule a change in regards to a play that was made in they're game the day before (saturday). I was intrigued because they showed a replay of the infamous Josh Paul/ AJ Porkzynski 05' ALCS play. I guess the new rule states that if a batter leaves the box and doesn't attempt to reach first base on a swinging strike 3 in the dirt, he is automatically out. On saturday Melvin Mora swung and missed at K3 in the dirt and made 2 or 3 steps towards his dugout, then thought about going to first but he was called out automatically without having the catcher throw to first due to the new rule. I apologize if this topic has been covered, apparently the rule was in force prior to the start of the season. I just thought it was interesting considering that rule would've helped a couple years ago...................

The rule was made BECAUSE of the infamous
AJ play. At least that’s what Wikipedia says.

AJ cheated again today!
I was watching the White Sox Rays game today and AJ was on 2nd with one out. The batter hits a ground ball to the SS and AJ takes off for 3rd base. Well the SS gets AJ in a run down and AJ purposely interferes with the SS and gets the umpire to call him safe at 2nd. It was a total acting job. He ends up scoring the winning run when the next batter gets a hit and AJ comes around from 2nd and scores the winning run. Did anyone else see this play?

Yup... saw the replay
Ridiculous. And the comments he made after the game in regards to that play.

Too lazy to look
could you summarize?
by ViolaHalo on Aug 24, 2008 5:34 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I found it...
“The first thing I was thinking was to get somebody close enough to me so I could touch them,” Pierzynski said. “When you are not (a) fast (runner), you have to think of things to get yourself out of bad baserunning.”

Am I the only one who sees AJ as something of a hero?
I admire his passion; he is clearly frustrated with umpires when he feels he gets a bad call. I wish other teams would emulate his desire to win; professionalism is admired whereas so-called “dirty” baseball is frowned upon.
Sure, the guy is a class-A asshole, but if he were on our team, we’d all be rooting for his blazing temper to explode after every missed call, and for his hard-nosed slides into every base on the field — remember Erstad sliding into Jonny Estrada?
Don’t hate the guy because he exploits the hell out of an imperfect system. The best cheaters aren’t the ones who never get caught, but are the ones who get caught and get away with it anyway.

“Erstad sliding into Estrada” You make good points, but i still hate him.

I doubt that this place would root for somebody like AJ.
Too many people around here went all apeshit on Frankie for showing his temper a few weeks ago.
Now, if AJ were as good as Ty Cobb, then folks would put up with his Ty Cobb caliber assholiness forever. But he’s not, so HH wouldn’t.
As for cheating itself, I am conflicted. Grabbing an edge anywhere you can get it, even to the point that others claim it to be cheating, is ingrained into the DNA of baseball. I don’t have to like it, but I cannot deny it.
Francisco Rodriguez: 196 career saves. 3 career Panthers, 1/3 as awesome as GMJ.
