Frankie might not be so selfish afterall

I think we will find the answer some time in Nov/Dec.

I suspect Frankie is the type who it will be “all about the money”…as in, who offers the most! It might be about the team right now, but….
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?

He'll be all about the money in October
The rest is press releases. C’mon, look at it from his point of view: this is his biggest (and perhaps only) opportunity to make some coin on everything he’s learned and done. I can’t blame him.

I don't remember the exact quote from Frankie after he lost in arbitration...
…it sure wasn’t, “I am so glad I will make $10,000,000.00 this year!!”.
If it comes down to it, I suspect franchise loyalty will about 4th on the list of priorities behind $/year, length of contract, and post-season opportunities.
If the spread between an Angel offer and another team is beyond $1,000,000.00/year, I figure he is as good as gone…

Frankie must be a team guy on some level.

You probably don’t have the rest of the bullpen rushing out to congratulate you on your 50th save if you’re just a selfish, money-driven jerk.

you can't blame a guy for playing the market...
its a simple philosophical question:
is 10 million a year and championship potential more satisfying to the soul or 15 million a year in a scrub organization?

A little off topic but
did anyone hear Rory Marcus the other night quote Tush-era saying he hired Scott Boras because he knows baseball is a tough business, yadayada. Sounds like great chemistry on the team, great fans, great weather, a championship, etc. might not be enough to keep Tush around. We better pony up TOP dollar for him the way he’s been hitting in Anaheim.

i think that this is his way of building up his rep!
i have all ways gotten the feeling that F-rod is a selfish self-centered all about the money kind of guy. so this is his way of playing up his “devotion” to the team. in actuality all he wants is the coin, which he deserves. i say 3 years with an option for the 4th at 12-13 mil per

Name me 2 free agents that didn't go for the big money? What world are you people living in?
Over the last 5 years we’ve been losing players mostly to age and injury or just general suckitude. But look beyond SoCal people. There’s a whole world out there!
If GA wasn't so lazy the Halos woulda won the 2008 WS by now.

not because they gave him top dollar, but because he didn’t like the East Coast teams and did like ours.

LA Times August 10th
“As Vladimir Guerrero talks, softly, he wants to make his position perfectly clear. He has no desire to test the market, to solicit bids from far and wide, to count down the days until he can become a free agent. He wants to sign a contract extension and finish his career with the Angels. ’That’s something I’d like,’ Guerrero said through translator Jose Mota, "to stay here and not have to move again.” – Bill Shaikin.
I guess he doesn’t technically say he’d take a pay cut, but it’s implied. See the whole story here.

More facts for you to ignore
- signed extension 7/8/07
- 08:$14M, 09:$14M, 10:$14M, 11:$14M
a) 4 years is a below market contract length
b) 14 million is less than he would have gotten on the open market.

Ramirez? 5 years $75M
Harang isn’t eligible for free agency.
Neither is Peavy although Peavy has signed an extension that pays him 15M+ starting in 2010 which is when he WOULD have become a free agent.
