Hey, if it's AAA pitching, maybe Wood and S-Rod will be able to hit him.
Not his second career start though, just his second with the Rangers. McCarthy was with the White Sox for a while. They traded him for John Danks. Now Danks is a staff ace, and McCarthy is still trying to prove he’s a big league pitcher.

Though throwing a strike to Hamilton after falling behind 3-0, you should count yourself lucky it’s not 2-0 right now.

Remember...
it is better to go through this now than when the playoffs roll around. Let HK be hurt now. So what? Let B-Wood and S-Rod get some AB’s to see how 2009 really looks. Who cares if Garland sucks for a starts or three – his ass will be in the pen in October and on another team next year.
If the team is healthy in October none of this will matter – aside from home field advantage.
Everyone relax – I’d rather they suck up the joint now than in 5 weeks. And, this is coming from a SABR pessimist – so there!

Also, Napoli occasionally hits the ball and gets on. He also walks.

Napoli, when he does hit,
hits it HARD.
he doesn’t weakly pop up to first base once a game.
he just needs to work on his timing.
plus, he gets on base a lot because of his patience

Jesus – get over yourself. It isn’t about you – it’s about your opinion. I’d probably love to sit and drink with you – but I’d still call you out for liking Mathis over Napoli and we could agree to disagree if you strongly believe in your point. However, I sure hope you can say more in your defense than, “because I do”. That’s all.

Because he has power and
doesn’t throw the f’ing ball into CF every time a guy tries to steal a base.
He calls a fine game and don’t try to say that the meltdowns tonight and last night by the SP’s are his fault. The dude brings his stick to the park. He isn’t great, but he is a slugging machine and I’ll take that from my catcher every day of the week…

if we could get him on this staff
THEN we’d be in a great position… much better than with Mickey “Swing at everything and hit it the opposite way” Hatcher

you know I was just thinking.......if the Halos keep this offensive "production" up
Tex might very well go to B-more……..I mean why not get paid close to 30 mil a year to be the only good hitter on team…….instead of staying with the Halos for 10-12 mil less….and doing the same thing

Just our luck lately
It also seems like everything has been falling in for the other team lately too or they have been getting lucky infield hits.

Garland's declining K per 9 rate
2006: 4.77
2007: 4.23
2008: 3.99
Which team will be stupid enough to give him a long-term deal? Oh wait a minute, the Mariners.

just a question........
but does the K rate influence a pitchers W-L/ERA? Are they conversely related?

Wel, both those stats suck
But a pitcher who can strike people out is often more successful since he can control whether the bal lgets into play.

A dropping K rate is BAD news, as is a low K rate.
Garland has never had good K rates, hence his consistent mediocrity. But a DROPPING K rate is a sign he could really suck going forward.

ah okay gotcha..........
just wondering…..because a guy like Greg Maddux doesnt really over power people (and I assume he doesnt have a high K rate) but he’s obviously still effective

Yeah I mean there are obvious exceptions
But you always want someone who has a strikeout pitch.

Maddux in his prime posted solid K rates
Well above 6 per 9. Plus he had good control.
