All I Can Say
is wow.
Johnny Rivers is obviously panther, but huge kudos to Garland for sucking it up after sucking, and sticking around through eight while giving up only one more run. That was huge.
by jjackflash on Aug 28, 2008 9:43 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
This is actually a great point.
After getting completely drained yesterday following Saunders collapse, Garland came in today and let them recharge. That’s huge.

Uh Dick wood will always be the panther ... now matter what anyone says.

Hey scotnak... Instead of obsessing about highly spurious pre-game picks, can we get a chart for rec'd comments?
I suck at pre-game picks but I think I might be more competitive in the realm of commentary.

that was awesome
and they sure shut me up.
kinda bummed Wood couldn’t get the hit in the 8th, but great job by Rivera.

Yeah... it wasn't fair that they read the scouting report and only threw him breaking balls. If they thre him a heater
down broadway I’d bet he’d hit it further than where Juan hit it. Luminus.

i cant speak for melvintoast
but for me personally, i just dont do the kids glove stuff with wood. I dont get why people will tear apart quinlan or matthews or aybar or vlad or garland or weaver or pretty much everyone…..but not brandon wood.
The post about wood’s 4 pitch pop out with bases loaded and 1 out being awesome and so exciting was pretty much when i lost it.
If he sucks, people are allowed to have a problem with it, super-prospect status or not. For me personally, its just mind boggling how people have such a wildly different standard for brandon wood
by ihearhowie2.0 on Aug 28, 2008 10:07 PM PDT up reply actions 1 recs
i was upset about the pop-up
but not as much as i would’ve been if Matthews did it.
GMJ is making $10MM a year, and he’s a vet. he gets more hate than the uber-prospect who’s making huge strides in his game.

and that i get
and im ok with it. I understand its because people want to see wood become what we’ve all wanted him to become since his monster cucamonga season.
and im one of them. i want him to be awesome and productive with us…but i also want us to win when we’re on a world series path. I got the mcpherson defensiveness because he showed a lot of flashes up here…but wood hasnt. Its not that i think hes a bust, because hes not…i just dont understand the special treatment. Hes 23 years old, hes not a delicate flower. If he fails, he should be open to criticism like any other professional.
by ihearhowie2.0 on Aug 28, 2008 10:16 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
it's his first game back
and minus that 8th inning AB, he actually looked MUCH better at the plate tonight than he did at the beginning of the season.
he barely missed one in his first AB, but still hit it hard to center.
his second AB should’ve produced at least an RBI single (maybe a double) but we got the crappy end of the stick that inning with line drives.
plus, he made a few pretty good plays on the defensive side.
all things considered, i’m pretty happy with his performace.
Mike Scioscia: He provides to unlike method of your team member.
by howiestheman on Aug 28, 2008 10:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
ya
i liked his earlier contact as well….i was referring more to my reaction to the post about the last AB being so awesome. Given the situation, it seemed so absurd in the wood-can-do-no-wrong category. Reading that i felt like a robot that couldnt process a job and had its head explode.
by ihearhowie2.0 on Aug 28, 2008 10:22 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah
i didn’t agree that that was a great AB, but i agree with the fact that he’s making notable progress.
again, this is all based on one game, so we could be terribly, terribly wrong

I saw that!
I went back and finished watching the game this morning (I fell asleep last night), but before that I read the comments here. I was watching for Teix’s reaction and damn, he WAS fired up. I love it!
POTG = Juan for being clutch, but Garland stepped it up big-time going 8 innings. Not only did he keep the Angels in the game last night, but helped the team for tonight by giving the pen a rest.
I was uncool before uncool was cool.

I just said, F it, they’re not gonna win ’em all, better to not be annoyed and just do whatever else.
And then in the eighth, I checked the score and it was 5-4 Angels.
Wow.

Big comeback win for us
Got it when we really needed it. Johnny and Judy for Panther. (ummmm, Judy).
Going to look at the highlights now, hope they have the defensive stuff you guys mentioned.
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

Good Old Fashion Angels come from behind win.
The kind the Rangers fans hate the most against the Angels. Juan Rivera’s clutch hit was amazing. Naps needs to pick it up a bit offensively, as we know he can. Brandon Wood looked better as far as plate discipline and seeing the ball than last time he was up. I guess as he gets more start in the next few days, our question will get answered whether he is really ready for prime time. Jon Garland’s pitching still drives me batshit, but he hung in there and got the job done. It was great to get the first W in this series and pad the standings.
by 44FAN on Aug 28, 2008 10:46 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Naps needs some hits to fall, that's all
he’s still getting on base, and he hit some balls hard tonight, but had nothing to show for it.
i still think he’s the best option.
read our conversation above about Wood… that pretty much covers it

Went to the game tonight and just got back...
…great atmosphere at the park. The 8th inning rally did remind me of ’02. It was a little frustrating earlier in the game because they hit so many balls right on the screws for outs.
Rivera missed a grand slam by about 2 feet. I sure hope he is re-signed this winter!
Oh well…magic number is down to 13…just another Halo victory!!
