What would it take for another ss?
Everyone knows we are looking for a veteran shortstop. Everyone knows that the Jays are at the top of the list, being that they have three shortstops on their roster, including former Angel David Eckstein. My question is, what would it take to get one of these guys? If it only took us Kotch and a scrub AA pitcher to land Teixeira, I can't imagine it would take a whole lot to land a guy like Eck. Are we looking at a no-name A-baller or something more like Reggie?
Personally, if it would only cost us a middle of the road minor leaguer or two, i'm all for it. If it would take any major league talent, I'm completely against it. It would make more sense to develop guys like SRod and BWood, especially with this huge lead and the hope that both Aybar and Howie will be healthy for the playoffs.
I know that BWood and SRod have been struggling big time at the plate, but their defense have been stellar. I can't imagine that both of them are going to continue to look this overmatched if they get some consistent AB's for a couple weeks here.
Please, someone enlighten me as to what can/should/will happen and why.

Wood's been back for one night
let’s give the kid some time before we throw him back under the bus, hm?
SRod, on the other hand, looks WAY over-matched up here. he needs to go back down to Triple-A in favor of somebody else. he’s got great D, but like with GMJ/Mathis, it’ll only count for so long.
Eckstein seems like the most likely choice and the easiest to get (all emotions aside). If all it took were 1 or 2 nobodies from the minors, then i’m all for it too.

You are throwing SRod under the bus
(that’s where I want to throw him, too, but…..)
I think SRod has a good bat, but he just needs to loosen up a bit and get more comfortable with the breaking balls.

he's in the same position as Wood was in May
we know there’s a good bat under there, but he’s either pressing way to hard, or he’s just not ready yet (ie needs to work on some stuff still).
I have no doubt that he’ll be good (I’ve argued that he’s an A. Soriano in the making), but right now isn’t his time.
plus, if (and i really hope this doesn’t happen) Howie doesn’t heal as planned, we’re gonna want someone other than him come October.
based on what i saw from last night, i’d be okay with Wood for the rest of the year… he’s looking much better

both rodriguez and wood have futures on this team
but the question is, when you put aside all your faith and good will towards your prospects, would you be comfortable with them coming up in a big moment in the playoffs or world series? I think weve seen them both fail this week in advancing runners and/or getting a sac fly in big moments…..
i just dont think people will think its as cute and chalk it up to development when the games are do or die. Eckstein has won 2 rings, can lay down bunts, hit it to the right side, play Angel baseball. Im not saying hes a starter, but hes certainly a much better backup and insurance plan.

Nothing more than a low level minor league talent or two for Eck
Let Wood and SRod play…folks need to stop being so critical. Look at just about any major leaguers first partial season or Sept callup…most suck numerically! There are going to be growing pains.
Wood has proven he can hit at every level except the majors and is 23…his time is here. This is his Sept callup to really play and be the man at either SS or 3b next season!
Both can backup Eybar/HK in the playoffs. The Angel way has to get instilled and part of that is playoffs and playoff experience. Only way Wood is going to get it is to play now…leave him alone and tell him he gets to play everyday…hands-off!
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?

i completely agree with that
i’m just looking for some sort of insurance policy… just in case.

Acquiring another middle INF
There is a serious need for a middle INF on the club if HK is going to be sidelined for any length of time. The best fit is Eck and thats because he knows the system that Sosh runs.
I think we will know the true extent of both Aybar and HK injury if there is some sort of trade. The real problem is this situation happened at the end of August. Had this happened at the start of the month then no real issue because there is more time.
I understand how everyone wants to see Wood and even S-Rod play but not at the expense of losing games as the seasons comes to a close. Do I think both players have value/upside……….sure……….just not at this point in their career, or this point in the Angel season.
It is important to go into the post season playing good baseball. September call ups are used to help the depth of a team fighting for a playoff spot. They are pinch runners, late inning replacements in blow out games, or maybe defensive replacements. They are given playing time to spell a player that is banged up. They are not slotted into the everyday lineup.
If this was the Padre,Mariner,Pirate, National,Reds, or any of those other teams that currently are playing out the season I would say let Wood and S-Rod play every damn day. Lets see if they are ready to take the job next season because this season is a loss. Thats not the case so let Wood and S-Rod play until management can swing some sort of trade for a proven performer at the big league level with some sort of playoff experience (Eck). Then send Wood and S-Rod back down to the Bees and let them win a Triple A Championship bringing them back up after the Triple A playoffs

Best case scenario...
is that wood lives up to potential, but as we all know thats probably not going to happen right now. next best would be trading a dustin mosely to the jays for either marco scutaro, john mcdonald, or my fav choice, David Eckstein. i heard there’s something in their clubhouse going around about which one of them will be traded to the angels.
but which one?

Catch 22
How can a kid get used to MLB caliber breaking stuff if we send him back to AAA? I contend that now is the best time to let Wood and SRod get their hacks in. If we slip like 6 games in the standings in the next week, then maybe I’d say send one or both of them back down, and try to trade for an SS.
No more hammies! Please!

Except any trade that would be made has to be done by the August 31st deadline I beleive.

Players have to be on the roster by Aug 31
to be eligible for postseason play.

No way Halos lose that much ground in standings
But I do agree that this is a good time to let the young guns get their hacks in
