All Your Division Titles Are Belong To... The NL Central?

I don't know how I stumbled into this, but somebody over at Red Reporter was whinging about the long six-team NL Central division, because it takes away postseason opportunities for teams in that division.

I already answered that in the post (but thanks to SN's lame broken thread links, I can't provide a link to my reply), but it just makes me giggle, for two reasons:
  1. The Reds have had 90+ win seasons only once over the last decade (1999), and have been over .500 only twice (1999, 2000). Hey, if you want to win something, even in the AL West there's no way you win the division with that kind of a record.
  2. The Reds have a manager, Dusty Baker, who thinks walks clog up the bases:
"On-base percentage is great if you can score runs and do something with that on-base percentage," Baker said. "Clogging up the bases isn't that great to me. The problem we have to address more than anything is the home run problem."
And yet in an all-hands, closed-door meeting prior to today's game, Baker complained about his own pitchers giving up walks.
Hilarity ensues.
