Shades of 1995 my ass
This team is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay stronger than the team in 1995. Frankly, that team was a fluke and it was a pretty amazing that we did as well as we did that year. The indifference of quiet Lachemann? The crack smoking Tony Phillips? C'mon. That team was a mess...
Today was a tough loss but the good Rev. is only sending bad vibes by even mentioning or daring to compare this team to 95. Ease up a bit...

Bad vibes?
Shit, why even play the game if the outcome could be determined by “vibes”, good or bad. I hardly think a reminder of the past debacle serves as any sort of jinx or bad vibery (word?). That kind of shit is for Cub fans and Pedro Serrano.
And shouldn’t this post be a response in the post where the supposed bad vibes were dealt?
White trashin' the 909
You didn't sacrifice to Jobu today?
Damn you. That’s why we lost.
I swear, if one more person tells me to "work smarter, not harder"...

wow, harsh man
Let me try to understand what you are saying…
If you don’t have all of your facts 100% correct all the time, then you are a frontrunner? You need to lighten up Rev
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
okay good point...
...just trying to get under everyone’s skin but not trying to shut down vigorous debate.
plus
in 1995, if we’d had that extra game and half lead at this team, there wouldnt have been a playoff, i think
i pledge alliegance... to mike Scioscia

I got your 1995 right here...
...what a crock! Name me ONE TEAM who would not be ecstatic about a road trip thru Balt, Beantown, and the Bronx with a 7-3 record?! 1995 that!
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?
If we navigate the ship through the next 10 we can probably put '95 to sleep.
Then we’d be talking about whether we’d be repeating 2007, 2005 and 2004.

Demons already exorcised...
The same exact road trip the Halos just took at NY, Boston, and Baltimore in 1995 they went 1-8. The 2008 version went 7-3. Not even a close comparison. Even pessimistic old me is not thinking about ‘95.
Also, Tony Phillips was almost a guaranteed 3 strikeouts per game in the final stretches of 1995. At least at home games. Nobody seated around me would bet against me even before the game started when I said “I’ll wager $100 that Phillips will strike out three times today…” He’d do it religiously. His intro music was “Start me up” by the Rolling Stones, also the theme music for MS Windows on TV commercials at the time.

Also, August 3rd ...
was the date in which DiSar was injured in 1995. Nobody got hurt yesterday. Whew.
by Downing Rules on Aug 4, 2008 9:43 AM PDT up reply actions
although....GMJ didn't get hurt yesterday
and if he keeps playing, that may be just as bad
Yesterday does not count...
No Vlad AND no Hunter = No Win.

End of long hellish East Coast road trip where we went 7-3
and we go home. No Vlad, no Hunter, no defense, no WIN. So what. 40 more to play? Let’s do them. Roll the hole!
Don't call me Desmond
question, toast:
how do you post stats in aligned tables like that?
by shiftyeyedgoat on Aug 4, 2008 3:27 PM PDT up reply actions
We'll see about that
I seem to recall a couple years back in the 2005 postseason when the Angels started resting everyone after the clinch and they lost out on home field advantage.
Witty .sig goes here.
Guys have been resting all year long...
much different scenario this year, you gotta admit.
by Downing Rules on Aug 4, 2008 9:44 AM PDT up reply actions
depth
has been big this year and, for the most part, has come through. this was a good week for sure but i think we can play .600 or better from here on out. once Teixeira gets going, look out. and thank God Torii is back with us.
I have the halos pegged at 529 the rest of the way...
27-24 to finish with a 9-game cushion.
by Downing Rules on Aug 4, 2008 12:22 PM PDT up reply actions
That's 96 wins with barely over a .500 record.
God-damn I love this team.
by shiftyeyedgoat on Aug 4, 2008 3:29 PM PDT up reply actions
Vlad getting an occasional day off is a good thing
Hunter was at a funeral it is not as if this lineup is a regular occurrence.
Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.
Kobe tell me how my ass tastes
In 1995
I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. This year I had my first child. Surely these two things are indicators.
Not that we’re superstitious here…..
My Guesses for the Halos' final stretch...
2008 Remaining Angel Games ... date(s) / opponent / seriesW-L / cumulative record 8/04 - 8/06 / Baltimore / 2-1 / 2-1 8/08 - 8/10 / Yankees / 1-2 / 3-3 8/12 - 8/13 / Seattle / 1-1 / 4-4 8/15 - 8/17 / @ Cleveland / 2-1 / 6-5 8/18 - 8/20 / @ Tampa Bay / 1-2 / 7-7 8/21 - 8/24 / Minnesota / 2-2 / 9-9 8/25 - 8/27 / Oakland / 2-1 / 11-10 8/28 - 8/31 / Texas / 3-1 / 14-11 9/02 - 9/04 / @ Detroit / 1-2 / 15-13 9/05 - 9/07 / @ Chisox / 1-2 / 16-15 9/08 - 9/10 / Yankees / 2-1 / 18-16 9/11 - 9/14 / Seattle / 2-2 / 20-18 9/16 - 9/18 / @ Oakland / 2-1 / 22-19 9/19 - 9/21 / @ Texas / 1-2 / 23-21 9/24 - 9/26 / @ Seattle / 2-2 / 25-23 9/27 - 9/30 / Texas / 2-1 / 27-24
So, a simple 529 win percentage will make it nearly impossible for Texas to win the division. If Texas sweeps all 7 head to head contests, I do estimate that they can win the division.
This is low balling it right? I don't think we'll split 3 series with Seattle. No way, no day. But i'm guessing you're being modest.
Whatever dude.

Very conservative. Yes.
I am usually a pessimist a la scareduck, but I try my best to be positive here on HH.
Yeah, the Angels should do better than splitting 10 games with the M’s…you are right. OK, they might make 100 wins, then.
by Downing Rules on Aug 4, 2008 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions
I agree that worrying about 1995 is a stretch at this point
We lost 2 games guys. 2. The Yankees are a good team and we split with them. We are in fine shape
Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!
nah
It’s kind of like that scene from the world according to Garp: The plane smashes into the house and he says “I’ll take it because the odds of that happening again are like zero.”
We had our monster collapse, the Phillies had theirs in 64, it was the Mets last year, the next one is someone else’s turn.
The Angels have to not panic, and keep everyone rested, and don’t play injured players too much. I’m pretty sure every collapse happened in part because the manager kept the whip on too long.
Whoa!
Someone quoting “World according to Garp.” Amazing!
Good quote, though.

1995 never happened brothas and sistas
It’s like Nam. Never forget, never forget, but it never happened man. It just never F—-ing happened man.

This 1995 stuff is meant to be tongue and cheek, right?
hat team= young team without many battle tested players, and had a chasing M’s team with the best lefthander (Big Unit) and greatest hitter (Griffey) of our generation.
This team= plethora of gamers who have been there and done that and have two teams without any pitching depth or hall of fame caliber players. Hamilton’s a freak, but no pitching mean no chance.
It would take a catastrophic chain of injuries, knock on wood, to stop this team and even if that happens the Angels are still far and away the best team in the division because of their depth.
by KendrickExperience on Aug 4, 2008 6:49 PM PDT reply actions
you know
its difficult for fans to forgot potentially scarring events, 1995 being one for angels fans. so whenever things seem to potentially seem to take a turn for the worse people say “oh man its just like that (blank) time.” its not a bad thing, just preparing for potential disappointment in one’s mind. Not saying that’s gonna happen (knock on wood) but a balance between optimism and pessimism is how people work So shades of 1995 isnt that big of a deal and should be understood as such
