Understand that a lot of comments are brought on by those that have so much love for a player yet know so little

I am not coaching these players and I am acting as a fan not a coach not a player not their instructor. Your lack of ability at playing this game shows often in the fact you use all stats and no past experience as a player

All I really came here to say is...

Send Mathis to SLC.

S-Rod and Wood are even looking better than him, and they have less combined career AB in the majors than Mathis has just this year.

Time to give Wilson a shot at backup, Napoli full time job, and Conger sooner rather than later.

I hope Harden wins 10 more games for the Cubs. Ha!

Why do we field such a shitty lineup today

and not even bring in the big guys to pinch hit late?

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 31, 2008 3:18 PM PDT reply actions

Probably because winning in the playoffs is a priority.

If GA wasn't so lazy the Halos woulda won the 2008 WS by now.

by melvintoast on Aug 31, 2008 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 31, 2008 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions

This team has a history of going into the playoffs beat up. I'd rather be healthy

on the road than hobbled at home

If GA wasn't so lazy the Halos woulda won the 2008 WS by now.

by melvintoast on Aug 31, 2008 3:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes, and they got their rest

now stand up straight with a bat in your hands for 2 minutes 30 seconds, and improve our chances of winning today.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 31, 2008 3:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Now I know this is pushing the hypothetical pretty hard

but what if Vlad pulls a hammy on the way to first?

Chuck Finley is my homeboy

by HaloDutch on Aug 31, 2008 3:25 PM PDT up reply actions

What if he gets hit by a line drive in the dugout?

What if he pulls that same hammy at any point in a regular season game for the rest of the year?

Bench him until October.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 31, 2008 3:28 PM PDT up reply actions

One at-bat is not "taking a chance"

his hypothetical is unnecessary fear-mongering that suggests that, in easily winnable games, you should never play your better players for a single at-bat ever, because he may get injured.

One at-bat is not taking a chance any more than playing him any day ever is. When the alternative in the 9th is Jeff Mathis, there’s no reason to not play him.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 31, 2008 3:31 PM PDT up reply actions

But it still kind of ruins the point of giving the guy an off day.

And unless you want Napoli to get his shoulder injured again, Mathis needs to play every 4th day.

~Till the Halo burns out...

by Zu Long on Aug 31, 2008 3:35 PM PDT up reply actions

"him" was actually a reference to Vla

a guy’s day off isn’t ruined by something that couldn’t possibly, feasibly, in any circumstance, interrupt his rest. He may spend all of two minutes doing minimal physical exertion. His day off still would serve a purpose, while greatly increasing out chance to win.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Aug 31, 2008 3:35 PM PDT up reply actions

The point of a day off is no exertion.

Lets your body concentrate on healing. And even so, if you take out Mathis for Vlad, Naps has to come in. We don’t have anybody who can play 2nd/SS for Wood/S-Rod right now. That leaves just Juice/Reggie to PH for.
