You know what else happened in 1995?
- A lot of dickheads walked around HB wearing Zubaz pants and did a lot of steroids.
- Jacques Chirac was elected president of France
- My girlfriend went psycho and decided she wanted to have sex outdoors or in public or not at all, becoming an ex-girlfriend.
- Congress passed an act making it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to appear in porn films.
- There was a massacre in Srebenica. Not much attention was paid to it in SoCal.
- A bunch of people got killed in a train crash in Toronto, and Alison Hargreaves, a British climber, tried to climb Mt. Everest and croaked.
- Seemingly, a million Starbucks opened.
- Mississippi became the last state to officially ratify the 13th amendment and abolish slavery.
- "You Oughtta Know" by Alanis Morrissette topped the Rolling Stone readers' poll for best single.
- Women started to get more tattooes and shave more things than they were meant to shave.
- Windows 95 came out.
- Howard Cosell died, and so did Elizabeth "Bewitched" Montgomery. So did Wolfman Jack, Jerry Garcia, Orville Redenbacher, and bless his heart, Dean "Little Old Wine Drinker Me" Martin".
- There were a few baseball games as well, one of in which Mark Langston flopped on his back, and none of which have anything at all to do with 2008.
Can we finally put that season to rest folks?

I'm pretty sure that 1995
was when Snake saved Planet Earth from Metal Gear. Everything else pales in significance.

bummer for you, then
The Northwest if full of great music, and yet you choose Alanis. Then again, your screen name was a brilliant choice, too.

I didn't say it was the best song
I listen to a bunch of bands that > Alanis by far, just singling out ‘95 there.
Built To Spill’s first album has a bunch of good songs too.

What, pray tell, is the motiviation to stand in line at midnight just to get a piece of software?

Dino's been gone 13 years now?
Ain’t that a kick in the head.
". . .and the young lions will lock horns!" -- Ron Fairly, from an Angels telecast
by rspencer on Aug 4, 2008 10:52 PM PDT 0 recs
Yep, seems like he never left us
And really, he hasn’t … any one of us who likes a smoke, a drink, a song, and the company of fine women has a piece of Dino in us always.
Also one of the only singers who mentions “Napoli” in one of his lyrics, proving that 1995 is indeed DFA’ed.

I never even knew the name of the brand. We always called them “muscle pants.”
Mayheminthehood is right though – today it’s Tapout and more recently Affliction. People, if you wear Affliction you are not Chuck Liddell. You are a wannbe. And probably a douche bag.

Pros don't do karaoke!
Though there was that one afternoon at the Garlic Festival in 1993, with Ken Layne and Jeff Whalen, where the three of us were sh*tfaced longhairs in a redneck bar, all the cowboys eyeing us with open hatred, when Layne broke the ice by doing a drop-dead perfect & heartbreaking version of “Stand By Your Man”.... Hoo boy, was that fun.

Dude, "The Blues Brothers" was already well entrenched in popular culture by '93.
The proper response in that situation is the main theme from Rawhide!
Doing that particular Tammy Wynette tune should only have worked if the chaps the cowboys were wearing in that bar were all a little too tight for practical purposes…

THAT'S why it was so brilliant
Table in front of us had a mustache dude who at the beginning of the song was all “Oh man, that just ain’t RIGHT!”, and seemed to be headed for violence. But the version was so stunningly, knowledgeably rendered (and Layne has a deep voice, too), that by the end of it even he had to admit “That was pretty damned good, though.” We went from assault victims to toast of the bar within the space of three minutes.

Beer and prodding made me do it, and our group subsequently high-tailed it outta there before all the redneck boyfriends could kick our sissy asses.
