Mark Teixeira

After years off listening to bad country, rap, and some sort of hybrid salsa music that the players walk up to the plate/mound too...  finally we had some quality music. Mark Teixeira walks to plate to Twisted Sisters "We're Not Gonna Take It".  The joy that filled my heart was enormous.  Mark's playing of Twisted Sister has officially made him my favorite Angel.  Rev, i would like to adjust some of my votes for the top 100 Angels.

If you were a Halo, what song would you play when coming up too bat or too pitch?

Mine, Mountain Song by Janes Addiction.

I thought it was...

“I wanna rock!”

Actually cupie

It was “I Wanna Rock”

Nevertheless, I agree with your sentiment. It was a kickass moment in stadium history. Teixeira rules.

So glad to hear

someone else loves that song. My band has always joked about doing a Never Gonna Give You Up / Together Forever medley.

I swear, if one more person tells me to "work smarter, not harder"...

My guess is

this joke went totally over your head.

Don't mess with "the sound of a young bright Briton"

too hard to pick just one - i'd maybe have a rotation

but I think in our USA-lovin’ OC, I’d have to think this would be a winner:

Hulk Hogan Theme – Real American :

rather than coming out of the dugout, I’d come down the aisles of the stands, high fiving all the little Hulksters who took their vitamins that morning, then on the top of the dugout, put my hand up to my right ear while leaning to the foul pole in left, then put my left hand up to my left ear while leaning towards the other dugout, ripping my warm-up down the middle, giving a couple flexes of the 24 inch pythons – jumping down to the field level and walking around the on deck circle briskly a few times whilst clapping my hands vigorously before picking up my bat and charging to the batters box, gritting my teeth and screaming “WHAT CHOO GONNA DOOOOO?” to the pitcher as I wait to run wild on him…

no, I’ve never thought of this before.

load the spaceship with the rocket fuel... load it with the warriors...

i also think the opening bit of Angel by Massive Attack would be rather menacing.

Didn't we do this last season?

Francisco Rodriguez: 191 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.

by Stirrups on Aug 5, 2008 7:49 PM PDT   0 recs

My friends in I do it all the time.

Also every pay per view boxing/mma event we watch.

It’s just a fun hypothetical.

Whatever dude.

by Mayheminthehood on Aug 5, 2008 7:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

that was LAST season

there are TONS of quality new songs out now….

I still go with Sonic Woman by the Cult
or Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

by ladybug on Aug 5, 2008 9:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh. Well. If we are talking about taking advantage of all the NEW material...

I claim the final 60 seconds of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. That would be prodigious.

Francisco Rodriguez: 191 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.

I know I don't. Sorry man.

They were never that original to me. I basically grew up at Greene Records, but i’m about 5 years older than those dudes. When they came along, I was like “Wait, this mall metal?”

That was in Identity Crisis era…right after they decided to stop being really wussy, and bought early Converge records.

Next one was a mall metal template….mixed with an obvious infatuation with Refused.

Whatever dude.

by Mayheminthehood on Aug 5, 2008 10:33 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

never original?!

go listen to The Alchemy Index, Vol. 1-4 and tell me that again.
better yet, just research it; you don’t even have to listen to it.
i would honestly check it out though. amazing stuff. far removed from the Identity Crisis era, which was very cookie-cutter.

Mike Scioscia: He provides to unlike method of your team member.

by howiestheman on Aug 5, 2008 10:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I have listened to some of the alchemy index stuff...at least the first one. I think that whole concept is pretty blowhardish, by the way.

Basically, I just don’t listen to stuff like that anymore…not since about 99. I still listen to SOME hardcore type stuff, but it’s more stoner meta(Big Business, Boris) and/or more punk shit, like The Bronx, Das Oath or 400 Blows.

Other than that, I listen to straight up rock and roll. Mostly from the 90’s or 80’s. Last CD I bought was Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Bigmuff 20th anniversary edition.

I can see how they’re ambitious, and good song writers, but…actually, while I was writing this, I opened a tab to go to their myspace page. The first song I heard sounded identical to Alice and Chains(a band I love). Once again though, if I want something that sounds like something else, I stick with the original.

Whatever dude.

by Mayheminthehood on Aug 5, 2008 11:40 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

to each his own, I guess

but yes, it’s VERY far removed.
I’m a huge fan, and even I didn’t like their first stuff.
too immature, to be blatantly honest.

Mike Scioscia: He provides to unlike method of your team member.

by howiestheman on Aug 6, 2008 9:17 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah, and that gets really iritating.

they’ve said in numerous interviews that they didn’t want to keep “making the same record”, meaning they’re trying to do something different and mature with each new record.
take a look at some of the lyrics throughout the Index. Better yet, take a look at the sonnets (the last song on each Volume)... you can really see a difference.

Mike Scioscia: He provides to unlike method of your team member.

by howiestheman on Aug 6, 2008 9:51 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

You two may want to start using the words "baseball" or "Angels"

randomly in this discussion, and pretty soon, before Rev steps in and deletes it due to a Rule 1 violation.

Francisco Rodriguez: 191 career saves. 2 career Panthers, tied with Hector Carrasco.

by Stirrups on Aug 6, 2008 11:00 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

i love baseball :)

seriously though… take a read.
the sonnets are written as the element (earth, water, fire, air) talking to mankind about how they are perceived.

read The Flame Deluge.

Yeah, but Angels Baseball.

The Angels are my favorite team, so i’ll check it out.

Whatever dude.

You guys

should both check out my band, Springtime is Wartime. I can say we are Refused AND Angels influenced. Our last album is called The Halo is Lit Tonight. Every song title is a baseball reference of some kind with a double meaning.

On second thought... I think I'd have them play Tammy Wynette's classic

Sometimes its hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You’ll have bad times
And he’ll have good times
Doing things that you don’t understand
But if you love him you’ll forgive him
Even though he’s hard to understand
And if you love him
Oh be proud of him
‘Cause after all he’s just a man
Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely
Stand by your man
And tell the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man

It was a tough call...

But in the end, I had to go with GG Allin’s “Outlaw Scumfuc”. I thought about “Kill the Children, Save the Food”, but obviously there is a lot more familiarity associated with the former, and well, if it appeases the crowd, it can only help. Am I right?

I met GG ALLIN

Imagine Kevin Youkilis without the beard and about as smart as a really on-the-ball “special needs” kid, but with a passion for drugs and anarchy.

At the time I was thinking “so cool” but now I look back on it as “so sad”...

by Rev Halofan on Aug 5, 2008 11:33 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Out Loud Laughter at the Youkilis comment!

And a new nickname is born. I will, from this moment forward, refer to Youkilis as GG. Done.

i'll be honest...

i don’t like “head-banging music”

but if i were to come to the mound/plate i’d go for “it ain’t no fun if the homey’s can’t have none” by snoop. i’m not even a big rap guy, but its (close to the) LBC, and it pumps me up. that or some new kanye. rap music gets me fired up, if you couldn’t tell by now.

while i love classic rock (aka E.L.O, The Who, Yes), rap is my shit for winning athletic matches. a tribe called quest is always welcome in this house.
