Too early to eat my(our) words? Probably, but I want to make fun of myself anyway.
As far as the Kotchman/Teixeira trade is concerned, I think most fans were sad to see Casey go, but were also ready to welcome Teixeira with open arms. The guy(Tex) is a stud with the stick, has a great glove and has already showed more plate discipline than our entire team combined(he already has 7 walks!!!). Like HalosHeaven patron Vlad IS my man pointed out in a post from last week, the guy is an on base machine. That post couldn't of been more aptly titled. As far as his power, he had a great grand slam on Sunday, and was 4 feet from another homer on Monday. On the field, he's been digging out balls, made one awesome play(Monday), and aside from that error the same night, he's been as good as advertised. I guess what i'm getting at, is I like him on this team. He may be a rental, but it was a move that will pay off, I believe.
So what's the point? Well, on June 19 I made a fan post that.....well, i'll just let you guys read it to refresh your memories. Be prepared....this made me feel kind of dumb as it may others:
http://www.halosheaven.com/2008/6/19/555344/ken-rosenthal-dur-angels-s
Is it too early to say I, or anybody else on that thread, was wrong? I'm going to go ahead and say that I look pretty silly. BUT, I won't apologize for taking it to Ken Rosenthal. For the record, everything he writes, or says, I still just here "Durrr...durrr..dur...dur."
This Fan-Post is authored by an independent fan and may or may not be a reflection of human evolution, divine enlightenment or nine cans into a 12-pack.

It's allright
I actually shared your opinion. But when I heard they did make the trade, I was happy anyway. It does give us an extra edge… But I do miss Kotchman.
Let’s just get those rings and we can all be happy!

Zu Long's comment on that thread is the funniest now, what would they do with Kotch?
Ken Rosenthal is like the boy who cried wolf too many times and now nobody listens to him when he may be telling the truth about something.

Yeah, Zu Long gets credit for being the most on the money.
“If we get Tex, we use Kotch to do it..”

Dude, Much cred for stepping up, but it's Ok.
Your miss pales in comparison to those of everybody else.
For example, take Huston Street. Rookie Of The Year not too long ago. Lots and lots and lots and lots of crowing up in AN back then about how brilliant the whole Beane Machine is and how dominant they A’s will be for the subsequent decade.
Then take a look at the yesterday’s game thread on AN. Yes, it’s the same Huston Street, same blog, same bloggers. And that whole team has been blown up completely.
It puts a whole new spin on everything those yahoos say about anything in their future. Specifically, that new spin would be that they are just as ignorant as all the rest of us.
It’s baseball. We all keep the same company. Some of us just don’t know it. To your credit, you do.

to be honest
a week of watching teixeira, even with him not really dominating, has made me appreciate the trade even more. Vlad isnt coming through that often, but pitchers are just pitching around Teixeira and putting guys on base for vlad and torii all the time it seems.
its certainly a nice turn of events and something that we wouldnt get from kotchman. Maybe he could develop into that all star calibur offensive player, but it was still an unknown. Teixeira was what THIS roster needed this year. You cant have a team thats half built towards winning a world series and half built towards developing for the future. The result is first round playoff exits.
kotchman was great, but hes not in the same league as teixeira. i dont care what the numbers say, you can just SEE and FEEL a difference when teixeira is batting. Theres something to be said for intimidation and having a batter that pitchers are afraid of hitting in front of vlad makes us much better

Maybe the missing piece is to get protection for Tex?

Just looking at the Halos lineup with Teixeira's name in it is intimidating.

It's given the team a whole new personality.
Whether Teixeira stays or goes at the end of the season, after this, I don’t think Reagins and Moreno will be able to go back. I think they will continue to pursue a big bat guy or two to maintain this element of intimidation in the lineup.

I agree. I was watching Monday's game with a lady friend, and when Tex almost hit a bomb, then Vlady hit one out, then Torii had a nice single, I told her this lineup is too good.
She said that it seemed like they were just right. I said it’s scary, and way too intimidating. She wondered why I was saying that, adding that I should be happy.
She wasn’t really getting my sense of humor, needless to say.
Whatever dude.

For those of you who do not believe in protection
Check out Ortiz’s numbers since the Man Ram trade.

That is most certainly true. On many levels.
But within your context of Red Sox games played since Manny’s departure, Bay has been 9 for 21 with 1 walk, 1 HR, 8 runs scored, 6 RBI’s, and only 3 K’s. he is .429/.520/.762 with a 1.282 OPS. Among those hits are 2 doubles and 1 triple. And in the field he has 6 putouts and already 1 assist.
Now, I take your point that these numbers will not continue. I also admit that opposing staffs do not plan around Bay the same way they would plan around Manny, so the general approach to pitching and defense towards the Red Sox is different now that Manny is gone.
But since Manny’s departure Ortiz has just plain sucked, and it cannot yet be assigned to some lower level of offensive production behind him. Maybe he misses his drinking buddy. Maybe his heart is broken. Maybe it is just a temporary coincidence.

i disagree
ortiz even said in an interview hes not getting anything to hit.
if vlad wasnt such a free swinger, he would have been walking a whooooooole lot the last 3 years. Thats what ortiz is going to find out: john lackey and andy pettite have no problem putting him on first to get to mike lowell. Hes not gonna get the intentional walks, but if hes gonna hit, he’s gonna have to be extremely locked in to pick up the mistakes because he’ll just be getting pitchers pitches

Well, if Ortiz said that, I call bullshyte.
I went through these 6 games and found the following:
GAME 1
inning 1, swings for an out on 1-1 count
inning 3, swings for an out on 1-1 count
inning 5, walks on 3-2 count
inning 8, swings for an out on 2-1 count
inning 10, swings for an out on 0-0 count
inning 12, strikeout looking on 1-2 count
SUMMARY: 19 total pitches. 11 strikes, 8 balls
GAME 2
inning 1, base hit on 2-2 count
inning 2, swings for an out on 3-1 count
inning 4, walks on 3-0 count
inning 6, swings for an out on 2-2 count
SUMMARY: 19 total pitches. 8 strikes, 11 balls
GAME 3
inning 1, strikeout on 2-2 count
inning 4, swings for an out on 0-0 count
inning 5, walks on 3-2 count
inning 7, int walk
SUMMARY: 16 total pitches. 8 strikes, 8 balls
GAME 4
inning 1, swings for an out on 1-0 count
inning 3, swings for an out on 1-0 count
inning 5, strikeout swinging on 2-2 count
inning 7, swings for an out on 2-2 count
inning 9, swings for an out on 2-2 count (plus 1 more strike as foul ball)
SUMMARY: 19 total pitches. 12 strikes, 7 balls
GAME 5
inning 1, base hit on 2-1 count
inning 3, swings for an out on 3-0 count
inning 5, swings for an out on 1-1 count
inning 7, swings for an out on 0-0 count
inning 9, strikeout swinging on 1-2 count
SUMMARY: 16 total pitches. 9 strikes, 7 balls
GAME 6
inning 1, swings for an out on 2-1 count
inning 3, swings for an out on 2-2 count
inning 5, base hit on 0-0 count
inning 7, swings for an out on 2-1 count
inning 9, strikeout swinging on 1-2 count
SUMMARY: 17 total pitches. 10 strikes, 7 balls
GRAND SUMMARY: 106 total pitches. 58 total strikes, 48 total balls
If Ortiz doesn’t feel like he is getting pitches to hit, he should stop swinging!

I stand by my assertion
“I’d rather have Chipper. He’s going to hit .400 ya know.” Remember that hype in the Atlanta series? What the hell was that?
