What an astounding game. What an astounding team. Other than Lackey not getting his 10th W, this thing was a masterpiece, easily one of the best games of the season.

If you Tivo'd the bottom half of the 8th, it is something you can save and play years from now during any down time.

I’ve never been so infatuated with a team as I am in these Halos. Well Frankie, at least you’ve got the Saves record before the All Star break…

panther: 8th inning..

do we really have to pick one person? ill give GA some more love… his homer got the comeback going an inning before the big 8th

Man, was that eighth unbelievable or what?

Just FYI, was keeping track of the game on gameday, but had some guests over and needed to talk with them rather than blog.

Naps for panther, homer and a single in his first game back, plus a BB and an HBP.

And he took an A-Rod foul off the hand

He sucked it up, hung in there and went yard to tie the game. Welcome back Naps!

by ReggieBullits on Aug 9, 2008 3:53 PM PDT up reply actions

panther of the game has to be naps

didn’t he get on base every time up? and the game tying homerun really seemed to be the change in the momentum of the game.

Man Tex hit that one ball a mile, but I don’t think he can get panther for making the last out of an inning and the first out of the consecutive inning. Has anyone seen that happen before?

by MH252525 on Aug 9, 2008 3:52 PM PDT reply actions

Wow

Panther to Vlad for making it 4-3. Otherwise the entire team offense.

Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

Panther to Naps.

On base all 4 times at the plate, tied the game and contributed to the 8th inning dog pile. All in his first game back after injury.

im gonn say that lackey strike out in the 7th on a-rod

he shut down a-rod and everything changed, naps hits a homer in the bottom half, shirlds shuts em down in the 8th and then EVERYONE HITS in the bottom of the eighth. but if not lackey then naps for taking the foul ball off the hand and then tying it up

Sorry I didn't pop into the game thread

But I was there … I met some mates, one Scottish, one English, at a pub called the Castle Tavern overlooking the River Ness in Scotland.

I dialed in the game on my lappie on MLB.TV and we were down 2-0. These guys knew NOTHING about baseball before, and came away from the experience knowing more about baseball than they ever thought they could know, and not only that … fans of the Angels forever.

I think it was the Napoli home run that did it for the Scottish guy, and it was the Figgins base hit and steal that did it for the English guy.

Either way, my mission to recruit new fans to the best team in baseball continues ..

good work, watching the game in the pub! Did the Scot like Naps because he (quote) ‘looks like an angry scotsman wielding a club’ ??

by AmyAngel on Aug 9, 2008 4:10 PM PDT up reply actions

It was great Amy!

I had my hands full because I got the game on full screen on the laptop and they were so impressed with that. And then we were down 2-0. They like soccer so they thought we were dead. I said just you wait ….

And when Napoli came to bat, I said to the Scottish guy, “this guy is known for his power to knock it for six out of the yard”

Sure enough Napoli hit the HR!!!! It was awesome. The Scottish guy loved the fact that we needed a run and Napoli (unshaven) smashed one into the bleachers. They couldn’t believe how many people were in the stands.

God bless Angels …. (not nation) ... Halos Heaven works for me just fine :)

good stuff! I’m still helping my english mates come to terms with the idea that 10 or more runs is regularly possible in baseball, think i’ve got a way to go before i convert them!

Hot diggity

Of all the games to actually be on a channel me and my non-cable-buying ass get to see, this was truly a serendipitous selection.

And what’s more, I got to force my office to turn away from Olympic rowing for a moment and show them the best team in baseball, which even Fox had to own up to, in so many words (even if they couldn’t remember who was on the team).

I’m leaning towards Side Salad for the kitty. Taking that ball on the finger and then coming back with an “oh yeah?” to turn the tide? TNT doesn’t broadcast drama like that.

Damn I love this team. It’s a good year to be a Halos fan.

I'm inclined to go with Vlad.

I walked in the door and turned to the game just as Vlad’s bomb was starting to come down and break that tie. Then I sat on my couch for the next half hour and watched one of the most amazing innings I’ve yet to witness.

That’s 2 great games in a row against the Yanks, let’s make it 3 tomorrow

Props to Fox

Hey, with all the anti-FOX and ESPN focus I see on this site, I thought I’d call attention to the fact that the Fox broadcasters of today’s game were all about the Angels, calling them not only the best time in the game but the smartest and the most professional. They were talking about the Angels the way they used to talk about the Yankees. It was nice to hear.

I’m a happy guy.

My only regret is that we don’t have large outdoor movie screens throughout the parking lot blasting Yankers fans as they leave with a video homage chanting how they have been punked.

I watched the 8th on the outdoor deck of a pub in Scotland on my laptop

with a Scottish guy and an English guy. By the end of the inning, they were buying another round of drinks they enjoyed it so much. Plus a guy in a Yanks cap game in the pub and we all told him to f—himself. Ahhhhh … happy times.

Now sitting at home, ready to go to bed and start a new day. But had to break out my special stash of American candy to celebrate this one. Already ate half a box of jujyfruits, half a box of good n plentys, and halfway through a roll of Swee-Tarts. Hitting up the gummy LifeSavers and about to hammer into the box of AppleHeads.

Any replenishments which can be sent from the States for the playoffs would be much appreciated.

Got a couple rolls of Sprees left though. Last time I went through Glasgow there’s a deli that stocks American stuff, I got those Lifesaver Fruitlicious Wild Cherry things …. Damn now those were good! They didn’t last long though, one bag got me through a couple of those night games we won before the AS break.

And, by the way, the New York media

is now starting to acknowledge the Halos as the benchmark of baseball, that any team must measure themselves against to determine how feasible that team’s chances might be this season.

Saturday’s game was yet another piece of evidence that this Yankees team might not be fit to compete with the Angels, the most successful team in the Major Leagues. And when they lose games because of a leaky valve in the bullpen - one of their strengths - this team appears in even greater trouble.

I've seen a LOT of long HR's at the Big A

But that Tex HR was monumental…

In person saw Bond’s in WS game 2, Ortiz’s long ball last fall :((, Willie Mays Aikens hit one back in the 70’s that one-hopped the back fence in RF before enclosed, but that ball Tex hit today was WAY OUT to CF. Anybody catch a distance on that thing? 460ish?

Ps…Naps for Panther!

Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?

Best moment of the game...

Tim McCarver was babbling something about the Yanks having the best record in baseball when leading after 6 innings. No sooner did he finish his sentence when Naps sent it over the wall. The rest is history…

Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up at the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake... the K-Rod!

by Scuff on Aug 9, 2008 10:52 PM PDT reply actions

Yes, it was sweet. Did you notice how quiet McCarver got

while the Halos racked up runs? Silence really can be golden!
