Angel Victory in Anderson's 2,000th Game with K-Rod's 57th Save
Garret Anderson has only played for one team in his career and just keeps driving in runs. Francisco Rodriguez has only played for one team in his career and just keeps saving games.
Anderson drove in 3 runs in his 2,000th major league game, assuring the win for Starter Jered Weaver. A bases-loaded single plated two in a 5-run 6th inning and the younger Weaver was assured his 11th victory.
After clinching the American League West yesterday courtesy of a Seattle Mariner victory over Texas, the Angels beat the Mariners in a game that at one late point was a lopsided laugher. But enter Angel reliever Justin Speier, assuring himself (and us) of not making the postseason roster with a terrible 3-run 8th inning and Scot Shields put men on in the 9th to create a save situation. With the tying run on deck, Francisco Rodriguez entered with his reggaeton beat and promptly got Ichiro Suzuki to ground into a double play. After allowing two singles, Angel killer Raul Ibanez stepped into the batter's box, representing the tying run. Ibanez grounded to Kendry Morales unassisted and Rodriguez raised both arms into the air.
And a roaring celebration was in order for the Angels closer. It was an historic save - Rodriguez tied Bobby Thigpen's single season Saves record with his 57th save.

Frankie
He got #57.
Otherwise: Weaver. Didn’t look this good for a while.
Hey you! What are horse mackerel!
Hey, the chair are sailing! You believe that I am toad of the month!
(Yes, that is K-Rod's entry music, translated)
the record is nice
but he did have some serious troubles getting it…
i say GA… 2-4 with 3 RBIs, and it was in his 2,000th game
Kotch would've had that.
GA panther

Speier
I actually felt bad for him tonight. He’s the only Angel having a bad season.
Bye Bye Ohio, hello Valencia!

The difference is
All of them have had at least one good moment, streak, something… Speier I can’t think of one
the extra inning game with oakland right before ASG
speier i think pitched 3 scoreless innings.. then of course mini-speier… bootcheck came in and served up a grand slam to ellis… i think speier woulda had a panther had the halos won.. there i found one

GA
We’ll save Frankie’s panther for his next save
Hooters anyone?

Sosh knows what's up.
The only reason Speier’s still around is to create save opps for Frankie. The HR to Itchy Toes proves this.
Congrats Francisco.
"Hey Butch, the rigatoni's getting cold. Get Speier up."
Panther: Weaver and his 6 shutout innings.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

A quick note on Frankie
For the “we should re-sign him because his strikeouts are down” folks: Since July 1st, he’s striking out over 12.5 per nine innings. That includes tonight’s zero strikeouts per 1 inning, and it’s better than his career average through this season.
So yeah, Frankie can still strike a lot of guys out.
Whatever...
You are just bitter Kings fan and that is how you roll.
"why do you we still have quitlin?" -VladdyG
yeah blame cupie

it was me who made the bad reply, btw
i can’t write right now — i’ll blame last night’s celebration hangover
scioscia on frankie's record
“it’s a record that means alot to this team, because it means we’re winning those games.”
nice.
“i don’t think i’ve ever seen frankie without confidence.”
funny!
give it to GA tonight
2000th game as an angel, 3, what turned out to be somewhat critical, rib’s.
krod can have it when he gets #58.
"Life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end."
Pains me to say, but GA
We had two “clutch” 2 out RBI tonight…one from GA and one from Driver Wood…both very very clutch as it was still anyone’s game! I’ll throw it at GA when you add game # 2K for the Escalade!
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?
Frankie
I said before when he gets 57 and 58, I would vote for him for POTG.
Weaver 2nd, GA 3rd
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.

K-Rod
57 is pretty special. Otherwise, GA: 2000th game. 23xx hits, 1286 RBI, and always classy.
Apologies to WTY. He pitched well, on a day when we really had no idea what to expect out of him because of the fingers. Still, it’s not as if he was shutting down the Red Sox.
Tego Calderon
Frankie’s intro song:

Frankie was turned onto this song by Bengie Molina, IIRC.
Panther is GA.
I was hoping Hunter's mojo...
would’ve rubbed off on Speier after Speier worked his jersey Wed.
Fire Mickey Hatcher... oh wait
Let's Hope...
that Torii burned that jersey or let Speier keep it, so that Speier’s “Funk” doesn’t rub off on Torii.
When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

Good point.
I didn’t even think of the negative mojo flowing back to Torii…
Fire Mickey Hatcher... oh wait
The OBVIOUS CHOICE IS....
A Dual Panther to Speier & Shields for doing all they could to make sure Frankie got his Record Tieing Save # 57. The game was getting way out of hand with the Halos scoring too much on a crappy team. With the lead at 4-0, all we had to do was lay down so that Frankie could come in. But NOOOOO ! We had to keep piling on run after run. I was at the game and I was getting pissed. Then out of the heavenly bullpen comes my saviour and Frankies too……Speier. Speier did what Speier does best, give up way too many runs. But at a time when we needed to. Then the real team player…..SCOT SHIELDS gave up just enough as to not make things look too obvious to get Frankie his shot at # 57. Notice after the save was recorded who gave Frankie the biggest hug. An Awsome Game Indeed! Remember, the quicker Frankie gets his saves record, the more rest we can give him down the stretch. TEAM WORK INDEED !!!!
Oh and GA. What can you say about The Cadillac. Drivin’ in runs like a M-Fah’ on his 2000 game!!!
Let’s face it. The Halos were playin’ with the Mariners.

POTG Weaver
Howie Kendrick, the Eric Davis of 2nd basemen...great when he's on the field, IF he's on the field...
GA
for his 2,000th FRIGGIN GAME FOR THE ANGELS! THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF PANTHER! (as well as having a stellar game).
Frankie gets mad props for his record tying save, and wty for a great outing, but i got to go with GA because of the career milestone. Hell, K-rod has only pitched 446 innings! For every inning K-Rod has pitched, GA has played 4.5 games.
Exceeding expectations is less a matter of luck than possession of certain assets.
