I realize that but .....
he has not been a guy that has shown much prior to that outing. The 4 prior starts not good at all and I was including the Yankee game in those past 5 starts.

Hate the tempo he has out there on the mound
so slow, takes forever between pitches, deep in counts. Those are not the guys the defense usually plays well behind.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying.
But that was the scouting report when we got him. He’s done pretty much exactly what you would’ve expected him to this year. Never particularly great, but he throws up enough QS to get it done.

Seen him toss since HS
He was a power pitcher then with a 94-96 FB with a plus CB. Has become more of a contact pitcher but not enough strikes thrown for me. Not sure if he ever get 2-1 strikes to balls. Always felt that a QS should be 7 innings. Hand it to the set up man and closer

Man, he dropped 6 MPH off his FB since HS? Wow.
Even with a different definition of QS though, Garland gets a decent number compared with other pitchers these days.
Jered takes it in the shorts though.

He blew
Garland had a plus plus FB and a great frame that would lead one to think he would be able to be a quality front of the rotation starter for a long time. Thats what the Cubs thought as well when they picked him in the 1st round. I saw 19 of the guys picked 1st round that year and he was a top of the board guy no doubt.
I guess my issue with the QS thing is what does it really mean. Garland had 21 of them last year yet had a below .500 record allowed more hits then innings pitched and didn’t even have a 2-1 K/BB. Always like the stat of how many games the team won when he starts.

And for all that, he was probably better last year than this year, yet he's won 13 games and only lost 8
And it’s not like we’ve had a great offense.
To answer your question though, QS just give you a rough approximation of how often the pitcher is going to give the team a decent shot at winning the game.

Read it back when it was posted back on Baseball Prospectus (one of those sabre-sites, you know)
Argued with a similar article posted on Beyond the Box Score. It’s interesting that Sheehan ignored BP’s own Reliever stat, WXRL, which says that K-Rod has been better than any other reliever save Brad Lidge this season. But that’s something I find fairly common with the super-sabre guys. They believe in the stats they create just so long as it supports their personal biases. Then they either create new ones, or use old ones.
Not so different from the rest of us in that respect, however much they claim otherwise.

ANAHEIM — Growing up an Angels fan in Anaheim, it would have been hard for a young Kevin Jepsen to even fathom the type of month and a half he just experienced.
At the beginning of August, Jepsen traveled to Beijing to play on the U.S. Olympic Baseball Team, pitching 5 2/3 scoreless innings over four appearances to help the Americans bring home the bronze, an experience he’ll “never forget.”
Then he made his Major League debut with his hometown Angels on Monday against the Yankees, and promptly tossed three scoreless innings in his first week.
“It was pretty exciting,” Jepsen said of his debut. “Your heart starts pumping a little bit, your adrenaline starts going. The next two times it was the same thing. Once you get out there, once you throw that first pitch, everything kind of settles down. You start focusing in on getting the outs.”
Jepsen, the Angels’ second-round pick in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, went 3-4 with a 1.81 ERA with Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Salt Lake this season to earn a callup.
