UPDATE:100 or Bust
There is a bunch of numbers still waiting to be crunched during the waning days of the 2008 Major League Baseball campaign.
Will Frankie's "meaningless numbers" be greater than the Frapachinos from the Great North West?
What are the magical numbers to the magical post season?
How many licks does it take to ... the questions go on and on. But the main one for most baseball fans is the Century Mark for wins in a season. It hasn't been done since the Skankees did it for 3 consecutive seasons ending in 2004. In the West it was last accomplished by the Beans from the Land of Tarps in 2002.
Then there is that record 116 way back in '01.
9/22 UPDATE:
As of 9/22 the quest for 100 looks like this.
The "Champs", and GMJ are tied at 99, with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2 games back at 97.
Looks like the Mariners have the upper hand by cruising in to the final week of the season tying the Kansas City Royals 2008 best streak at 12.
9/23 UPDATE: CONGRATULATIONS GMJ
GMJ hits a big two run shot with two outs in the top of the second against Ryan Feierabend and the the Seattle Mariners to collect number 100 on the year.

Well, realistically
it’s gonna be GMJ probably.
We’d have had 100, or WAY WAY WAY more easily if not for the rough patch in mid/late August. It’s kinda said that we’ve had to fight down the stretch to get to it, but it’s certainly within reach now…I’ve had my eye on that mark since, like…June.

The Angels have 7 games remaining. Current record is 96-59.
Tampa Bay’s current record is 92-62.
If the Angels go 4-3 over their final 7, they would finish 100-62. We have 4 on the road versus the Mariners (currently on 11 game losing streak) and 3 final games at home against Texas.
Tampa Bay would need to win their final 8 games – if we go 4-3 – to tie the Angels and therefore gain home field advantage over Angels for any playoff series. TB has 4 remaining against Baltimore (including a double-header tomorrow) and 4 against Detroit…all on the road. TB current road record is 35-38.
Home field advantage through playoffs is currently not a “done deal”, but it is well within reach.
(NOTE: I do not include Boston within realm of probability. A combination of 2 Angel victories/Bosux defeats puts them in a tie with us, and we own the tie-breaker).

And seconded. I think we get 100, but also I care a lot more about how we do in October than over the next 5 days.
