Angels 97th Win is Mariners 99th Defeat
The Los Angeles Angels rode the pitching of Ervin Santana, the power of Vladimir Guerrero and the slap-hitting of Reggie Willits to defeat the hapless Seattle Mariners Monday Night, despite a good pitching performance by Ryan Rowland-Smith, a beneficiary of what appeared to be the most generous strike zone in major league history courtesy of home plate umpire Tim Donaghy-- I mean Bill Welke. Speaking of major league history, Francisco Rodriguez got his 61st Save of the season.
Guerrero's 25th HR of the season, a solo shot, tied the game in the 4th inning after the Mariners had rattled but not shaken Ervin Santana's cage, scoring a run in the bottom of the 3rd. In the top of the 7th, a Willits single to CF brought home Jeff Mathis when Mariner mainstay Raul Ibanez bobbled the ball - not many Mariner fans (if there are any left) were there in person to witness their hero gank the game. Willits, the scrappy Angel role-player, was 3 for 4 in the game. His single in the 7th came in his 100th At-Bat of the season. Howie Kendrick and Juan Rivera returned to the Angels lineups after extended absences, Rivera's over a week and Kendrick's almost a month.
Picked by many "experts" to take the American League West, the Mariners are close to becoming the first team in baseball history to lose 100 games with a payroll over $100 Million. The Angels are pacing the American League with baseball's best record and are leading the battle to retain home-field advantage thru the playoffs.

Santana POTG
he was superb and definitely kept the angels in the game
2/3 on pregame guesses
My curse on the angels: I have been to 3 of his 5 blown saves, I was at the no-hitter for weaver, and I was there when Maicer had a season ending injury.
I am one LUCKY fan

WooHoo!!
great win para us, and Ervin is THE MAN!
Panther goes to Voodoo!!!
Kotch would've had that.
Voodoo has to be Ervin.
9 Ks, no walks, and got out of a bases loaded, no outs jam giving up only one run.
The Hunt for a Red October ...and please keep telling Clutch to chill!
how great is it gonna be when we give them their 100th loss?
sooooooooooooooooooo great.
black magic for panther.
"Life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end."

Ervin all the way.
Night of the living fastball: Ervin’s was hitting 98. Frankie’s heater at 95.
Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!
Voodoo was ace.
Pantera = voodoo
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!
Panther=Voodo
leiutenant panthers=vlad and willits
If there was any doubt who our #2 starter was, there is no doubt anymore
Exceeding expectations is less a matter of luck than possession of certain assets.
Santana without a doubt
Nice effort by Vlad though. 61 is a nice number also. Over 33% of total games in a season.
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.
if K-Rod doesnt get his K in the 9th i get the K points
i pledge alliegance... to mike Scioscia
and the angels way of baseball
and to each pennant and ring we are sure to win.
one fanatic, under the halo, unwavered
with in n out and world series rings for all

And with the win
the Halos clinched home field against Boston, in the event the Sox wind up winning the A.L. East. Magic number against Tampa Bay is down to 4.
Easy...It's clearly G.A.
Kidding, of course.
It’s got to be Santana.
A tip of the cap to Vladimir, though, too, for going over the .300 mark and collecting his 25th home run of the season. For quite some time it didn’t seem possible, but he’s done it. Now he just needs to maintain that BA.
Now, put Chris Pritchett at first, Bobby Rose at second, Pete Coachmen at third, and let's go win.
