SF Chronicle Article
Bill Dwyer of the LA Times may hate the Angels--or at least according to this morning's LA Times article and the fan post on this site--but Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle is all envy.

Thought you folks would like to see what's being written up here as the playoffs begin next week. The best line I like is where the writer postulates that the Angels could be dominant in the AL West for the next 10 years and how this must keep Billy Beane awake at night. Nice stuff.

This will be a team to watch in the off season.. For me, I am happy to see Tex on the team for now and helping the team in the playoffs, the reward is better then the risk in this case.

For the next 10 years part, we'll have to see what happens this off season.
Alot depends on where Arte and Reagins want to go from here, and this team could change enormously in the next 2 years. I don’t doubt for a second they have a plan, but past experience has led me to the conclusion that I’m terrible at predicting what that plan is.

Hard to F up this team
Even a worst-case scenario, of both Frankie and Teix walking — which won’t happen, btw — would end up being a contender, with Kendry and Arredondo providing at least replacement value for cheap while the rotation & the good young infield motor on. And meanwhile, we’d be stockpiling high draft picks.

He also posted that article on Frankie last week. Solid.
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

Easily my favorite line in the entire article
blockquoted paragraph The Angels have become baseball’s model of excellence, surpassing the Red Sox and leaving the Yankees in a little pile of dust
i pledge alliegance... to mike Scioscia
and the angels way of baseball
and to each pennant and ring we are sure to win.

This was a close second...
What must disturb Beane is that the Angels, unlike such wildly fluctuating entities as Detroit, Colorado or Houston, aren’t going away. They easily could be the runaway favorite in the AL West for the next 10 years.

It must be a horrible feeling
To have the local paper slam you while exhaulting your rivals down the coast.

I liked the bit about
Then again, if you’re CC Sabathia or another star on this winter’s market, what’s a more attractive option than Anaheim?
Also, I had no idea that Torii’s deal was made at that specific Del Taco. I used to go there all the time!
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!

This article is an ego-booster, no doubt.
On the one hand, it’s nice to be recognized. On the other, we should seek to avoid a sense of entitlement. Beane gave up this year, but he’ll be back in the years to come. Rajai Davis and other recent acquisitions speak to a possible shift in Beane’s station-to-station philosophy. We’ll have to see where he goes from here.
I did like this line though:
Scioscia’s lineup essentially is a bunch of maniacs who (save Teixeira) hastily put the ball in play, take risks, look to steal bases and execute the hustling first-to-third mentality better than any other club in the game.
Maniac-ball. I like it. It’s a got a nice ring to it.
