Angels Send M's $100 Million Payroll to 100th Loss of Season
The Seattle Mariners declined polite attempts by Angels pitchers Jon Garland and Scot Shields to hand them Wednesday night's game on a silver platter.
All night long Angel hitters played catch and release, making sure to leave two men on base in 7 of the game's 9 innings. The Angels left 18 men on base in the game.
Frankie Rodriguez got his world record 62nd Save of the season and a deserving Darren Oliver got the Win. The Angels (98-60) maintain a 2 game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays for home field advantage in the American League playoffs.
Mark Teixeira was 4 for 5 with a go-ahead homer in the top of the 8th inning and Mike Napoli was 3 for 4, but a 2-Run double by Sean Rodriguez in the 6th inning was the big hit of the night.
Jon Garland in his last start of 2008 allowed 5 Earned Runs in what will likely be his final ever appearance as an Angel barring a walk-on cameo in the 2008 postseason.

Teix is panther
he bailed the Angels out, yet again, and broke his own supposed go-ahead HR curse.

Tex = Panther!
go-ahead homers don’t grow on trees.
that was huge.
Kotch would've had that.

and btw
i love Tex. plain and simple.
his post-game interview was classy, funny, and humble… exactly what the Halos are all about.
Kotch would've had that.

God, the more I see/hear of Tex...sign him and sign him before the playoffs get started!
C’mon Reagins/Arte…do what it takes…If we must lose Kotch, sign TeixeHRa and do it now!
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August...?

You are an "optimist" aren't you?
you have any idea how much money the sKanks are going to throw at Tex? The Dohhdgers might even get involved in that mess…he is going to have to REALLY enjoy playing for Soth and the boys! I hope you are right! I really do!

everything i've seen indicates how happy he is
BUT he is going to want to get paid. that’s why he’s not jumping out of his skin at every opportunity.
you can hold me to it…. he stays. for 7 years.
Kotch would've had that.

7 years, I can see, takes him to 35 years?
…but what’s the dollar value?
Start with $150m as a base – how high will they go? At what point do the economics start getting questionable – $175m? How much will the Skanks top out at? 8 for $200m?

at your notion of happiness. Years and dollar bills = happiness in this game. Don’t you know that?

The thing is
the Yankees will have a LOT of holes to fill. Sure, they basically have unlimited resources, but keep in mind that Pettitte and Mussina are both free agents, as is Giambi. Posada may not be able to catch anymore, and might have to get moved to DH/1B. They’re going to have to make a run at Sabathia. Do you really think they’re willing to open the season with a rotation of Wang, Hughes, Kennedy, Chamberlain & Rasner/Geuss (sp?)/TBA?

The DOdgers?
That is high-larious. They are broke.
The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

Oliver, SRod, Teixeira make it a tough call
I’m gonna go with Olly because compared to Garland and Shields he was nails.
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!

as i have stated before
TEIX NATURAL BORN POTG
My curse on the angels: I have been to 3 of his 5 blown saves, I was at the no-hitter for weaver, and I was there when Maicer had a season ending injury.
I am one LUCKY fan

69 save Opps for Frankie!

I said SRod earlier for Panther, but the longer I think about it…TeixeHRa gets my vote!
Nice hit by SRod though!

Tex is POTG
He has hit many of home runs for the Angels this year late in the game were it should have been the winner and the POTG, but for some reason or another the club has blown it. Now he gets the winning knock (HR) and there is doubt about who gets the PANTHER?
Crazy talk. Guy was 4-5 with a double and the winning hit (HR) and he has to now fight HH and acuda for the Panther…………Oy vey!
Willie Mays Aikens is FREeeeeeeee

He shouldn't have to...
Acuda fails to mention or remember that the only reason SROD wasn’t bunting in that situation is that he’s f’d up his bunt attempts so often that he can’t be trusted to execute the most basic of Angel offensive precepts. After falling behind, he got an 0-2 cookie from a young, tired pitcher and did something with it…great timing! I was actually quite surprised to see Sciocscia NOT force the bunt, if for no other reason than to see if SROD’s capable.
SROD has filled a vacancy nicely, he’s played some solid defense, and, assuming he can stop striking out at a .325 clip, might play a role in the Angels’ future. Of course, a quick brush-up on the rules could help young SROD keep from risking injury to Aybar when striking out in key situations, too.
And he’s NOT the POTG, despite his timely double.
I don’t see how it’s anyone but Tex. Seriously.
Now, put Chris Pritchett at first, Bobby Rose at second, Pete Coachmen at third, and let's go win.

Teixeira all the way
My “gut” told me it was Teixeira. But thanks to shaky Shields and some badly soiled underwear, I wanted to make sure I was of sound mind. So I checked out Fangraphs
Mark had the leading WPA of .327

Olly, Tex a very, very close second, and S-Rod a not so distant third.
