good call, i think

it’ll give Vlad some extra days off, and it’ll assure that we have Lackey, Santana, and Saunders starting every game (barring some freak injury).

i hope revenge is sweet this year….

Kotch would've had that.

I hope so, too

Is it true (memory fails, and I wasn’t following the team as closely then) that we also had home field advantage for the 2004 Chowd sweep?

2004

yes this is true, and Bartolo Colon got squeezed by a home plate umpire later found to be a season ticket holder in Fenway Park, but hey, Tim Donaghy is just an NBA thang…

by Rev Halofan on Sep 26, 2008 11:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Wow I didn't know that....

you’d think having season seats would disqualify someone from umpiring that teams playoff games at a minimum. I personally don’t remember Colon getting squeezed but I remember Glaus getting called out on balls like at least a foot outside. I really couldn’t believe the calls the umpire was making, now to here that he had Fenway Season seats that makes me sick

Oof

Doug Eddings, Tim Donaghy…

Does ESPN pay off MLB to have these idiots ump our crucial games?

Did he really have seats in Fenway?

by hauldog on Sep 29, 2008 10:39 AM PDT up reply actions

yes

a true but of course underreported story … you know, how the “magic” was aided and abetted by crooked umps and anyone pointing it out is a spoilsport…

by Rev Halofan on Sep 29, 2008 11:04 PM PDT up reply actions

The number four is involved

There was either 4 umps involved with the season/selling post season tickets, or for seats.

I’m thinking it was four umps with four tickets to each post season game to sell.

by eyespy on Sep 30, 2008 2:26 AM PDT up reply actions

That is BS he should not be able to work Sux games.

Yeah I was at game 1 of that series

This was our first playoff series since 02 and you could tell some of the guys were nervous. Figgins especially was a train wreck that series. The only two good things I remember about that game: 1. Glaus hit a ball farther than I’ve seen anyone but Vladdy hit to left field. He almost got it up to the concourse behind the left field bleachers and 2. I saw a couple Boston fans get kicked out of the stadium

That about sums it up. Hopefully this series will go better. I just know all of those weaselly beaneaters are snapping up all of the StubHub tickets. DON’T SELL YOUR TICKETS TO BOSTON FANS!

So was I

and we were surrounded by the most obnoxious Chowds I’ve ever had to suffer through. It’s the closest I’ve ever come to going postal. Exhortation re selling tix to Chowds seconded heartily.

And re Figgy: whenever I hear anyone suggest putting him back at second, I have a Nam flashback to that game.

I bet that the Sux organization gave him free tickets to those seats this year.

by red floyd on Sep 30, 2008 3:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Unlikely.

Because of the time-lapse between each game, Scioscia doesn’t really have the excuse of protecting Napoli. In the ALDS, I’d expect to see Napoli catch the first three games at least.

ANSWER:

DET @ CHI (makeup of Sept 13 rainout) on Monday

if CHI wins having been a half game ahead, they take the division by a game
if CHI loses having been a half game behind, they lose the division by a game

BUT if after the game with Detroit on Monday, Chicago and Minnesota are tied, there is a 1-game playoff in Chicago on Tuesday, the winner then flying to Tampa for ALDS Game 1, to be played Thursday.

Guess for lineup for G1 ALDS vs. Beckett and the Sux

1. Figgins, 3b
2. Anderson, lf
3. Tex, 1b
4. Vlad, dh
5. Hunter, cf
6. Kendrick, 2b
7. Rivera, rf
8. Napoli, c
9. Aybar, ss

Rivera's not THAT bad

he moves better than Vlad, and he’s got a GUN out there.

either way, you’re not throwing Ichiro or another Torii out there… it’s either “save Vlad’s knees” or “make Vlad happy”, and Soth usually leans toward the latter.

Kotch would've had that.

by howiestheman on Sep 27, 2008 10:17 AM PDT up reply actions

problem is, Vlad still thinks he's really good

Rivera’s a little better, if he plays like he cares. Which he might- playing for a contract and all.

I really hate Boston

I am super nervous about game 1 they way Lack has been throwing. I predict Santana throws a gem in game 2.

Who’s starting game 2 for the Sux? Lester or Matsuzaka?

Napoli-an Dynamite

by hk47 on Sep 27, 2008 9:46 AM PDT up reply actions

looks like it will be Lester in game 2 and game 5 if it goes that far

according to the LA TIMES

No surprise here as Matsuzaka is one of the most overrated pitchers in baseball. We just need to work him in game 3 in Boston and watch him throw 115 pitches in 5.1 IP and then get to the juicy Boston pen early.

Some people are regional fans, haul.

I am one of them, too. I am a firm believer in regional fandom.

Although, my NFL team abandoned me (boo hoo).

Maybe you didn’t grow up in SoCal? That might explain the mixed fandom. Not sure how a person living in San Francisco can be a 49ers fan AND a Dodgers fan. It just doesn’t happen — most 49er fans are GIANTS fans. However, (in my experience) a lot of the “Bay Areans” are also Lakers fans, not Golden State Warrior fans. Huh? Pick a winner, I guess.

Guys, guys, guys (and girls)

“I hope,”“I think,”“I’m nervous,” etc, etc.

Seems to me everyone is so afraid about jinxing the team or being disappointed.

I hope the Angels aren’t feeling like that. I hope they have confidence and fire in their eyes and are ready to rock and roll.

I am. Because I’m not worried about losing. If we do, we will be back next year, and we will be competitive for a long time to come with our current management. All you can ask for is to have a team that can be good and have a chance to make it to the playoffs every year. Once there, everything else is gravy. It’s not like we don’t have a ring.

Now let’s go fuck up some Red Sox.

there's a fine line between confidence and arrogance.

Me personally, I’m gonna let you guys do the talking and I’m just gonna hang back enjoy the games and explode at the right times. Shit as far as jinx’s go, I’m not gonna wear my angels hat at all this postseason, because it seems like everytime I take it off of the top of my computer monitor and wear it, they lose or something bad happens.

We are all definately walking that fine line between confidence and arrogance, somor of us have said eff it and burned the dame thing down. I think I’m one of the few of us who are gonna take the quiet confident route and like I said, explode at the right times.

Plenty of swagger, I promise.

But I went my entire freshman year in High School maintaining a certain dressing ritual and in my mind it worked, started that year off 2-4 and finished 20-5. My hat will have the same role I keep it in, it will sit proudly right above the instrument I use to watch the games, the computer in the regular season, and the TV in the postseason.

to every halos game I attended. In 1995, I threw them all away.

Now, I still toss my stubs after each game, but only because I don’t have the storage space, no more superstitions after 2002 had exorcised those demons. (I do have my WS stubs and Jered Weaver’s 1st pro start (RC @ Lake Elsinore) and 1st big league start ticket stubs—not sure why I kept those.

Anyone thinking this day off is a bad thing?

I was worried about it before the series started, and here we are. Time to think about a VERY disappointing loss. Then, another day off after game 2.

I recall a week where we had two days off, and we went on a pretty horrible streak after that. It was a Monday and a Thursday off, with a series against the M’s, back in August. We then went on to play a crappy series against Cleveland, then a crappy series against TB, and against Minnesota as well — winning just 2 of 8.

It’s all I could think about when I initially saw the ALDS schedule, even before the series started. Sorry to be a downer, and I hope I’m wrong, but I just had to say something because it’s been driving me nuts.
