Beckett reportedly has oblique strain
Asked last night if Beckett is suffering from an oblique injury, a separate Red Sox source said a medical update on Beckett will be announced today, before the team boards its charter flight to California for Wednesday’s Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Los Angeles Angels.
We obviously would like to beat them at full strength. They are supposed to come out with an update after their game tonight.

Beckett reportedly has excuses
For losing Game 1.
Went to Knotts Scary Farm last night. Was in line for the log ride, directly in front of me was a Matsuzaka shirt. I asked the kid, ‘Hey Dice K, you ready to get lit up?’. He said ‘By who, the Angels?’. I laughed. Asked him when he became a fan and he quoted something from SportsCenter that made me laugh.
That’s the problem with SoCal Red Sox fans. They don’t know shit about their team execept what SportsCenter tells them. I said ‘I heard Manny doesn’t wipe his ass’.
’He’s a Dodger now’ he said. That’s what this kid told me! ’He’s not on my team anymore’.
Oh. Really?

I wouldn't take this too seriously.
The Red Sox pull the “injured player” card to mess with the psyche of first round playoff teams (ie. US). Beckett’s probably resting up nicely while the Angels prepare to wonder if he’ll come in to pitch and whether the Red Sox will have an answer.
I hate that slimy club.

Slimy?
What exactly is slimy about the Sox? Fielding good teams? Winning? I’m curious to hear your well-reasoned answer.

awww... are we a little defensive already?
we haven’t even started the series yet!
Kotch would've had that.

Well...
Slimy may be a bit harsh. However arrogant, and entitled are easily justified. The fact is the red sux, long ago lost any credible argument regarding the “Lovable loser” moniker . In fact to the rest of us in the baseball world the red sux have become everything they themselves at one time despised. Buying the best talent available, as opposed to developing talent, the insufferable, ill-informed band wagon fans, the fact that the national media has a hard on for the red sux nation, rather than calling it for what it is, spoiled, over-payed, over-hyped and over-exposed. The only good thing to come out of the east is the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays, half the payroll, half the expectations, but a completely better TEAM. As a matter of fact, 0157H7 the red sux have become the very thing you hate, THE YANKEES.

actually
the Red Sox have a LOT of homegrown players, and others that they’ve been able to acquire precisely because they have such a strong farm team.
Home grown:
Youkilis
Ellsbury
Papelbon
Lester
Pedroia
Acquired through trades for prospects:
Beckett (for Hanley Ramirez…a damn fine player they developed)
Lowell (see above)
Don’t forget David Ortiz, a guy released by the Twins. Anyone could have picked him up. They saw something most other teams didn’t.
They’re a very good team, with a very astute GM.

jjackflash your right.
I thought of this rebuttal (from a sux fan, I may add), the red sux nation has done a decent job of rebuilding their team from within, but not like the Halos, or, dare I say, the A’s, Rays or even the Rangers. Lowell, not homegrown. Schilling, again, not homegrown(I realize he has not played this year), Dice-k, was bought with money, Wakefield, not a product of the nation. Beckett, Ortiz and Manny ( Again I know he is no longer on the roster) not a product of the nation. The only reason the chowds hate A-Rod so much is because the Skanks outbid them for his services. The fact is if Theo Epstein were the Royals GM, he would, and could not field a winning team. For every red sux player that is homegrown, the Angels have at the very least one reliable answer.

P.S. jjflash
I’m not trying to be a jerk, or call you out, but for the record, I friggin hate the sux. Not the team so much, but the insufferable, arrogant self indulgent and therefore bothersome fans, of the same team. I will never forget the ALCS of 86. So the fact of the matter is I am not willing to offer the same logical assessment of the bo sux that you apparently are. However I’m gonna save my eff bomb for the playoffs.

A thoughtful, informed reply.
Few teams, even the Rays, are entirely home grown. For the Angels, Hunter, Tex, and Vlad all started out elsewhere.

true lets take more looks shall we
c- naps/mathis home grown
1b-tex (acquired when division was won, real player for most of the season was kotch, home grown)
2b-howie (home grown
ss-Aybar (home grown
3b-Figgins (only played pro ball with the angels, traded for kimera bartee)
OF-Reggie, GA, Morales home grown
OF-Torii, Vlad, GMJ imports
bench-Maicer aquired after rookie season, wood, brown, s-rod, qunlan home grown
pitching
starters
Lackey, Santana, Saunders, weaver homegrown
garland imported (moseley brought up first with the angels)
relievers
Krod, shields, arredondo with the angels
speier, oliver imported
jepsen, oday homegrown, bulger traded for
Exceeding expectations is less a matter of luck than possession of certain assets.

Well reasoned. Ok, let me give it a go.
They have like this clammy ooze on their skin, and this chowdery-like stench on their breath. It creates like this overall feeling of slime. Of course, if you’ve lived in this your entire life you could not possibly observe this unbiassedly.
However, as someone outside this situation, I can assure you that I have observed this scientifically and that the red sox are indeed slimy. Nothing personal.

Well, we do “love that dirty water,” so there you go.
By the way, my Yankee attention to detail and degree from Hahvahd obligate me to point out that the correct spelling is “unbiasedly.”

Don't count on it, Joe was 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 3 starts vs. Boston this year.
The Colonel will be alright.

Two things bother me about the Chowds
1 — Their fellatinous relationship with ESPN, including reporters like (the otherwise respectable) Peter Gammons, who dutifully parrots the Bosox party line (e.g. Manny is a lazy ingrate) when asked.
2 — 1986. Let’s not forget that shortly after they broke our Angel hearts, our pain was quickly subsumed by the outpouring of Chowd grief over Bucknah and their choke in WS Game 6. They deserved to lose like that.
And now, we need to crush them!!

Lowell & Drew are being touted as doubtful as well
Linkie
…or is this just a page out of the Patsies handbook? Whatever is what I say…they swept us when we played our SLC Bees against them last October…NO MERCY! Sweep the Chowds regardless of whether they are hurt or not! Just sweep I say!
Whodathunk we would be rooting for a former Ranger come August, er September...? Miss ya Kotch, but for now Tex is HUGE!
