Who to cheer for in today's game?

I'm torn.  I can't decide whether or not I want the White Sox to win today.

Star-divide

Don't get me wrong:  I hate the White Sox.  I hate A.J.  I hate Ozzie G.  I love O.C., but I hate the rest of their team.  But at the same time, I want another crack at them, and I think if we meet them in the ALCS we'll pound them.  Our starting pitching is better than 2005.  Theirs is worse.  Our lineup is more potent that 2005.  Theirs is worse.  A.J. still can't throw out baserunners.  As long as Doug Eddings isn't umpiring, I think we would beat them in 5.

I realize that they'd need to get past the Rays (and I like Joe Maddon/Percy/Gabe Gross/Grant Balfour), and we're (rightfully) focused on the other Sux team first, but if you could work your will to arrange the matchups you wanted, would you rather the Halos play the White Sox, Twins, or Rays in the ALCS?

i would much rather see the twins than the white sox

my respect for the twins is far greater than my hate for the white sox. i always like to see a team that plays the game right have success over, well, the white sox.

all they can do it hit homeruns.
they play horrible defense.
their broadcasters are obnoxious.
their manager is an idiot.
aj pierzynski is on their team.

they are a terrible team from a terrible city with terrible uniforms that play in a terrible ballpark built by terrible construction workers.

go twins.

Go Twins

My two least favorite teams:
1. Red Sux
2. White Sox

I don't get the hate for the CWS

I was at Game 5 of the ALCS in 2005 when we were eliminated and I still don’t hate them.

It's not game 5

It’s game 2.

Then you hate Josh Paul.

I don’t like Eddings, don’t get me wrong, but Paul could have used his head.

by Downing Rules on Sep 30, 2008 5:15 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

s position, honestly.

Not from a fan’s perspective, but from his.

We say he should have tagged him, and it would obviously have remedied the situation.

But in his mind, why the hell should he have tagged Pierzynski? The ring-up by Eddings was there, and in his mind, all he is thinking is “I just caught the third strike, let’s get moving on to the 10th inning.” The idea that the ball was dropped, or the mere thought that it MIGHT have touched the ground is just not present in his mind. In the same way you don’t tag the guy after a third strike right down the middle of the plate that you catch cleanly, the thought just did not occur to him because he, as far as a catcher is concerned, had NO reason to think it. You can’t fault a guy for not thinking something there was no reason to think.

If I was taught my entire life that 2+2 = 5, and I was asked the question on a test, and I went back and checked my answer at the end of the exam, I would have no reason to rethink the question, despite it being wrong, because that’s all I ever knew to be right. Likewise, Paul was taught his entire life that if you catch a third strike, you roll the ball back and are done. In this ‘test’ of his, he may have been wrong, but he had no indication that he was wrong (and with Eddings’ entirely fucked-up call, had actual reason for his belief to be validated), and acted according to what he knew: I caught the strike, inning is over.

Due to the significance of the game he should have thrown it to first at the very least when AJ ran.

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

by hauldog on Oct 1, 2008 9:54 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

His bad.

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

by hauldog on Oct 1, 2008 11:00 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually

The ump should indicate that he thinks the ball hit the dirt.

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

by hauldog on Oct 1, 2008 11:00 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

That's my point

You can’t fault Paul for doing what he was trained to do.

Again, read my post. He thought the ball was caught. The idea that it wasn’t caught doesn’t even come into play, because if he thought it was caught and was given reason to believe it, why tag A.J.? You don’t tag the batter on a routine caught-third strike, because that’s not what you do. He had no reason to think it was necessary, ergo he didn’t. That simple.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Oct 1, 2008 4:54 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I agreed. That is why I responded again.

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

by hauldog on Oct 2, 2008 10:34 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

That's good

I can live in a world where we all agree to hate everything about Doug Eddings.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Oct 2, 2008 10:49 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I just want to know...

What pictures of Eddings does PieceOfShitSki have stored in his safe depost box?

Apparently not one damning enough to help him today

it wasn’t Eddings, but Pierzynski just got thrown out stealing so bad that he didn’t even try sliding. Just walked the last few steps and got tagged.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Oct 2, 2008 1:17 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Sounds like a good place.

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

by hauldog on Oct 2, 2008 1:41 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

But here is the mystery for me...

Paul never looked back to Eddings. All that talk about Eddings using his “strike motion”, or his “out motion”, as he had used all game is worthless. Paul did not look to see what Eddings was doing. He could have been doing the rumba back there for all he knew. Paul just tossed the ball out and ran to the dugout. So the REAL question is: what motivated him to believe that he could do that, since he never looked at Eddings? My theory is that Eddings made a verbal call, one that is not there on the video and obscured by his mask and totally lost to all reviews. Josh heard it, and reacted. Eddings got pwned by AJ dashing to first, and changed his call.

The other mystery is how in the hell does Eddings believe he saw the ball hit the ground? He would have had to have X-ray vision. From where Eddings eyes were, he would have had to see through Paul’s torso, his chest protector, his arm, and then the back side of his catcher’s mitt. And he would have had eyesight better than stop motion video cameras. That is because the only possible place that the ball hit the dirt could have been just as Paul’s mitt catches the ball right beneath him. The ball flew all the way in the air to that point.

Eddings doesn’t have X-ray vision, of course, so he did NOT see the ball hit the dirt. But that’s the story he has to stick to. It’s demonstrably false. Provably false. The fact that he sticks to that story so strongly reveals jsut how strongly he must hide his error making the call int eh first place.

I felt a temporary hate...

I smelled their champagne while walking out the exit ramps…

But, then I realized that having playoff games in my stadium, win or lose, is a cool thing.

by Downing Rules on Sep 30, 2008 5:14 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

angels fans should prefer the twins to the cws imo

I hate the white sox because of 2005. We would have gone up 2-0 in the series and had a great chance of going on to the world series. They won at our demise. Also, I hate BJ Pierzynski, the guy is an asshole that benefited a blown call by his butt buddy Doug Eddings. The day after that joke of a game, he was on talk radio everywhere talking shit arguing that they won that game fair and square. Lastly I hate their coach. He is a self righteous douche bag, that pretty much sums him up in 4 words.

The twins are a very likable club with no egos, a very respectable coach, and a play style that is very similar to that of the angels. They play the game the right way: great pitching, solid defense, and a good bullpen.

However, as I write this the White sox win the game. The upside, I now have a clear team I am rooting for in that series. GO RAYS!

by BoulderBrian on Sep 30, 2008 7:05 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

The Twins and White Sox have their work cut out for them

The rested and rotation aligned Rays will be tough.

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

by hauldog on Sep 30, 2008 9:59 AM PDT   0 recs

My answer Twins

I think we would handle them easily

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

by hauldog on Sep 30, 2008 10:00 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

the twins are one the verge of making the playoffs

and are STILL underrated by you guys.

span, casilla, mauer, morneau, kubel, young, buscher, punto, gomez (a.k.a. the team that has scored the FOURTH MOST runs in all of baseball)

couple that with a young, but strong, rotation and one of the best closers in the game and it doesn’t sound too easy.

their only ‘true weakness’ is their bullpen.

Their rotation is tired an wearing down.

Regardless I do not think they win today.

The Angels may have beat them 8 times in a row, but winning three before they do is all that matters.

Danks has a 7.91 ERA against the Twins

and is pitching on 3 days rest.

The Twins have the batting champion and possible MVP on their team.

I like their chances.

well, i think i can say that

neither of us saw that kind of game coming.

Totally agreed. I thought there would be a lot of runs.

"you guys"

which side are you on? ;)

by Downing Rules on Sep 30, 2008 11:17 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

acknowledging the abilities of our competition has nothing to do with taking sides...

but i apologize for the negative connotation.

This is hard

I would love to kick both the Wsox and Rsox Butts, but seeing either sox team in a world series would seriously make me sick.

Given our history with both teams...

Its like a toss up between jock itch and athletes foot. However I truly dislike the chisux, and hate pierzynski.

YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....

by halofolife on Sep 30, 2008 11:00 AM PDT   0 recs

I don't think it really matter as both team will find it tough betting the Rays

White Sox are a bad defensive team that can really drive the ball, but I dont see them having a lot of success against the Rays staff. Twins are a better Team.

But for fun the White Sox dress funny also

Truly terrible unis

But I wonder which was worse seventies and eighties Stros, or the chisux unis? Special nod to the Pirates of the same era.

I don't care either way.

I just want the winner to tire out the Rays enough to make it easier for the Angels in the ALCS (when the Angels get there).

TWINS... Hands Down

I am an AVID A.J Pierzynski hater

GO Twins!!! I hate the White Soxs, but I think I hate A.J Pierzynski even more. He is a complete idiot with ridiculous hair. He needs to get punched in the face!!!

Our season series records

5-5 versus the White Sox
5-2 versus the Twins

I pick the Twins.

says you are part of the you guys crowd.

As opposed to...his guys?

I’m not a “you guys.” I’m not saying the Twins aren’t good, I’m saying we played them better this year. However, on further thought, we swept them the 1st series of the year when they were still gelling. We only split a four game series in Aug. So, I guess it’s more of a toss up than I initally thought.
