MATTHEWS
GMJ is in there to hit the lefty John Lester. Juan Rivera could Pinch-Hit for him at any moment.
doesn't make me feel any better
i mean, we could do A LOT worse (Reggie McNeverswing), but I’d much rather have Rivera in there, given his power potential.
Kotch would've had that.

love him or hate him...
gmj has been hitting the ball well as of late.
"Life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end."
i'll give you that.
here’s to hoping it continues…
Kotch would've had that.

soth
is just playing the hot hand… By game three we will forget what GMJ even looks like. But while he is making good contact lets take advantage
Relax... Everything is fine

Reggie Willits is the single worst player on our roster
GMJ is a BIG improvement over Reggie and I am the #1 GMJ basher out there, but Willits is a pinch runner, corner outfield emergency defensive sub AT HIS BEST.
i completely agree
hence my statement
Kotch would've had that.

Sosh is right on the mark...not out of his mind
GMJ this year versus Lester is only:
2 for 2 with 2 HR and 2 RBI’s with one walk
Playing the match ups as he always does
Could be work, could be baseball...but I got Spring Fever!!!!!
Rivera is 2-5 with a double and 2 RBIs
what’s your point?
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Sep 30, 2008 9:04 PM PDT up reply actions
My Point....
The same as Sosh….GMJ gets the start over Rivera.
Way to start the second guessing before the series even starts. relax there will be plenty of time for that!
Could be work, could be baseball...but I got Spring Fever!!!!!
First to admit, I was wrong
Although the matchup of GMJ vs Lester looked good on paper and the thought of having a better defender in GMJ roaming RF instead of GIMPy Guerrero sounded like a good idea…..IT WAS A HORRIBLE IDEA…
Not only was he miserable at the plate, but the error in RF which he continues to do way to often sealed his fate. I cant see him getting another start throughout the playoffs.
Could be work, could be baseball...but I got Spring Fever!!!!!
it's not like i "knew" this was coming
but given Matthews’ overall year, i thought it was a mistake.
Kotch would've had that.
i hope naps continues his tear...it would be nice to have another consistently solid bat
he has the best hr per at-bat ratio in the bigs, by the way. not a bad stat.
how do you guys feel about the soth grouping switch hitters/lefties and righties together? personally i think the whole L/R/L/R thing is a little overrated, so don’t have a problem with scioscia’s approach.
"Life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end."
i feel the same way
just because a guy’s a lefty doesn’t mean he’s a good 2 hitter or a good 6 hitter (or vice versa).
no matter what, the hitter needs to fit the position in which he’s hitting.
In this lineup, i think Soth got it right (though i’d like Howie and GA flipped).
Kotch would've had that.
by howiestheman on Sep 30, 2008 9:18 PM PDT up reply actions
I disagree
GA has been tearin it up in the 2 hole, I don’t think Howie ever has performed well that high up in the lineup. Could be just small sample sizes, but I personally feel much more confident with GA batting behind Figgy

personal preference
nothing more.
i’m not arguing with GA being in the 2 hole.
Kotch would've had that.

Why in the world would you take GA out of the #2 spot
he has been raking since moved there…why fix something that aint broke!
Could be work, could be baseball...but I got Spring Fever!!!!!
I like this lineup.
There isn’t a single place on that lineup where I would think to Intentional Walk a guy to get to an easy out. I dunno if I can sleep tonight with the game tomorrow I’m too pumped.
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!
Wheres Morales? LOL jk
I actually LIKE this lineup…….HGH has been on the Juice lately (Good Thing) and Morales was not on his A game. Maybe Rivera should have been in there but then again if HGH continues his aight “D” and hitting, this should be a VERY GOOD lineup!!!!
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My thoughts exactly. How crazy is it that some HH'ers are kinda stoked on HGH being in the lineup.
He’s actually been swinging well lately, and I’m not talking about with Bentley Matthews.
Whatever dude.

GO HALOS!!!!
Could be work, could be baseball...but I got Spring Fever!!!!!
You should shut up. The majority of the people on this site are pretty damn smart, and if you were to only go by the regulars here, one would assume all Angels fans are some of the most intelligent and analytical fans in baseball.
Whatever dude.

Oh MY!!
Dude, i think you are on the The Juice with the type of anger you display!! RELAX, we are all fans here. Don’t get banned because you think your opinion is IT!!

Dude, if you are going to question someone's intelligence...
…you are going to have to do better than this:
im gunna my laugh ass once
Hey look, Bentley Matthews is on this blog
How awesome.
Hey you! What are horse mackerel!
Hey, the chair are sailing! You believe that I am toad of the month!
(Yes, that is K-Rod's entry music, translated)

yea i talk shit because they talk shit on our players i thought your supposed to root for your team even when they have an off day or off week. Mayheminthehood i like you, youre a cool guy. GO HALOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to use the reply button dude. As far as the shit talk, it is 99% about GMJ. And 99.9% of said shittalk is warranted.
But in the end, you’re right…I am a cool guy.
In all seriousness, we just don’t “Talk Shit”. Our commenters use stats, histories and well thought-out arguments to criticize certain players, namely one GMJ. And to be honest, I’ve seen many guys on here, including myself, admit when we’re wrong. So I think “talking shit” is a bad term to use.
Whatever dude.

OH, AND USE "REPLY"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whatever dude.

use the reply button
But people on here aren’t bashing their own players, instead halo fans are just critiquing and discussing the lineup. If you want to just turn a blind eye to the moves your team makes and accept everything they do as gospel, go ahead, but there is nothing wrong with discussing the moves our team makes.
by BoulderBrian on Sep 30, 2008 11:56 PM PDT up reply actions
If we didn't question the baseball moves on this site...
what would the point be. It would just be everyone saying they want the Angels to win. Of course we all do, but I’d bet every single person on this site has some sort of different view on the best way to win, that’s why there is something to talk about. Personally, I think GMJ has no business playing in this game, but just like everyone else I hope he proves me wrong. Anyway, I’m nervous as crap for tonight and it’s still 12 hours away, so I need this conversation to stall time until then.
Mayhem is cool...
you should see him striking his “Capt. Morgan” pose.
Uber-cool
I was uncool before uncool was cool.
GMJ
Don’t mind him in the lineup. He has a lot to prove and has been playing better lately. Kind of been having this hunch (whatever that means) that Jr is going to come up big.
And Riv has the hip flexer thing. Maybe not 100%. The way I look at it, everyone is going to get their chance over the next month.
Let’s Fucking Rock!
Angel Pitching, Angel Defense - get past that.
Good point Impaler...
I forgot about Rivera’s hip thing.
Also agree with you about GMJ doing better lately, so I like this line-up.
8 1/2 hours til game time. AHHHH!
I was uncool before uncool was cool.
Mathis ought to be served with a TRO
so that he doesn’t get within 100 feet of home plate. That bat of his has been like Kryptonite to him.
More Napoli, please!!!
You ever feel as if your mind had started to erode?
We can only hope that Naps is the DH in game 2. Any other call on Mike's part is folly.
*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!
This won't happen
And it’s not a good idea. Scioscia would be completely handcuffing himself since there would be no one to replace Mathis at catcher. He either has to let the pitcher bat for himself by replacing Mathis with Napoli or severely weaken our defense by playing Quinlan at catcher.
He should have left Garland off of the roster, gone with a 9-man pitching staff and brought a third catcher. That would have solved our problem.
I feel the need, the need...for speed!
If necessary we could go to an NL type offense. It would still be more effective then leaving
Napoli out of the lineup entirely.
*Visiting Angels fan* Never give up, never surrender!
time for him to prove everyone wrong
i personally can’t stand the GMJ bashing on this board. does he deserve to get shat on for not producing for being a high priced player? absolutey!! i just have never seen that much hate for one of our own. every single step he takes is scrutinized. he sno cones a ball and it’s like 20 posts bashing him for it. he’s struggled big time this year but i do think he’s been doing better lately and i’m hoping (and praying) his first postseason brings him back to his 2006 production. go GMJ, go Halos!
I have bashed GMJ probably as much as anyone over the last 2 months.
I also think he earned the bashing.
However, I also posted (game threads and elsewhere) that he really has played better over the last 3 weeks or so.
Since he is in the line-up and since this is the “second season”, I will be cheering for him as much as any other Angel. I want to see us win, and do it convincingly. So, go GMJ, go Halos!!!
i really like gmj
in 2006. and he seems like a good guy. but when you’re paid too much and your name is thrown around with the steroid accusations you’re going to be more scrutinized. i dont think anyone here hates gmj personally, and would love to see him perform a la 2006 or even the last 3 weeks of the regular season.
when the criticism turns to personal attacks, then its gone too far. but getting mad at an overpaid player for not performing is perfectly fine imo.
I would play Rivera or Willits over Matthews
Rivera has more power and has better career numbers. Willits is a better defender and gets on base more often. Matthews has been playing better lately, but he’s not as good a hitter as Rivera and not as good a defender/baserunner/OBP guy as Willits.
I would start Rivera in the first two games and Willits in game 3 (since Saunders isn’t a strikeout pitcher, we want our best defense out there).
I feel the need, the need...for speed!
its about the same actually
willits: .321 obp
gmj: .319 obp
gmj has a much better slugging and ba than willits and id say their defense is about a push.
i’ll give you a healthy rivera over gmj, but not willits over gmj.
WHERE THE EFF IS THE SPECIALIST?

My favorite part
is the bat sticking out add an odd angle. It looks like it’s stuck in his thigh. Awesome picture.
I feel the need, the need...for speed!
I've seen a guy shoot a 22 cal rifle bullet through a washer.
That was impressive.
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!
But could they play 7 positions and tap dance while they swing?
by Quinlan's Goofy Swing on Oct 1, 2008 12:24 PM PDT up reply actions
No but not every gets to be Casey Kotchman.
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!
lol very clever.
But it was the kind of washer you use with nuts and bolts. and he didn’t hit the washer, he shot through the washer without touching a side with the bullet.
