Blame of the Game: Justin Speier

Septlose4_medium

Of note though, a litte ray of sunshine did Bulger bring tonight.  Great three innings.

BOTG

Shared between Lackey and Frankie.

Agreed

It’s a given that Speier will lose any game that he enters with a tie score, so it’s hard to blame him.

What I do hope, though, is that the Soth realizes that come postseason, Speier does not belong on the roster. Bulger does.

by jjackflash on Sep 6, 2008 8:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bulger should have been up here since June at least.

His stats in AAA were so sick anyone with even half a brain would realize he’d pitch circles around Speier.

by MH252525 on Sep 6, 2008 8:49 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

problem is

that Speier is under contract for two more years and a lot more money. They’re not going to simply cut him. They could DL him for the playoffs, but they really couldn’t have gotten away with that during the regular season.

But he probably did belong more than Darren O’Day, who spent a lot of time up with the big club.

K-rod

We wouldn’t have had to waste an extra 6 innings if he didn’t blow it

by Los Angeles de Anaheim on Sep 6, 2008 8:06 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed.

K-Rod blowing a save pretty much automatically ensures BotG.

by shiftyeyedgoat on Sep 6, 2008 8:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Another choke like this one against a postseason contender

and he’ll lose $10M and a couple years off his next contract. Do it in the ALDS, and he’s looking at a serious hit.

On the other hand

Hamburglar is a pretty decent nick for Bulger.

Speier's the Blame?

Really?

Oh well. Helluva fight was put up by a few. Way to go Figgy – I was afraid the next three weeks would pass without him getting a single homer. And it’s games like this that make next year look sunnier, i.e. Dondo being the closer. And wow – what was up with Bulger tonight?

Speier does it Again !!!!

this is my fist post, it has to be Speier, he is a automatic lost!! 1-8 now, give me a break, he does not deseve to be in the line up. time to sent him packin’. Bulger came in and was throwing heat, very impressive.

by bakosloneangelfan on Sep 6, 2008 8:15 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Can you imagine Speier's psyche right now?

Poor guy probably thought things were turning a corner for him when he was given the Clemente Award. Then WHACK, reality sucker punches and he realizes he’s still destined to be unemployed in a few months. Hang in there Justypoo, the Marines are always looking for “a few good men”.

I called it

I was watching the game and I missed the first out of the inning, I came back and I saw Speier in the game facing Thome, and said to my girlfriend. “Hey Babe, We’re about to lose”,, Sure enough, next pitch . BOMB.
Blame of the game is Fairly obvious.

by Big Bad , "VLAD"! on Sep 6, 2008 8:24 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

diddo big bad !!!

i said that exact same thing, the second i they showed him wraming up, i let out a big “oooh noooo!!!” i told my girl, “if he’s coming in next, were done!” its not hard to predit how the outcome when he comes in. I was at the game vs the Mets in June, the exact same thing happen, hopefully he heard me yelling “Nooo” from where i was sitting. there’s better options than him, especiallly with Bulger coming in and pitching 3 great innings of relief.

HA HA!

My wife was upstairs watching TV and almost every inning break after the tenth I would go upstairs and tell her the inning and score. When I went up and told her that Spier was in, she said “it’s over.”

BAA! She doesn’t watch very many games, but she’s seen enough of the Cobra’s handiwork to know what she’s talking about.

I think we are in trouble

We have a hard time with the Rays. We have a hard time with Chicago. How are we going to get to the WS?

BLAME – Speier. The man in finished. I hope Soth doesn’t put him on the playoff roster

Write to the Angels front office. Get Tim Salmon's number 15 retired!

by KingF15h on Sep 6, 2008 8:26 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Amen

That could be the silver lining from this game. There is NO reason to put Speier on the postseason roster. His stuff hasn’t been good all year, and he’s leaving cookies down the middle of the plate.

by mattwelch on Sep 7, 2008 7:27 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Speier is anywhere near the post-season roster...

Then Scioscia will need to be tested for drugs. Speier is instant offense for the other team.

From my seats, it didn’t look like either hit against Frankie was very hard. Sometimes guys hit the ball and find holes. Uribe had two cheap hits tonight, but that’s the way it goes. Tough to blame the pitcher for those.

by LA Seitz on Sep 6, 2008 8:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

On the first hit Vlad was playing in the 1st row of seats in the OF

on a ridiculous no doubles d with no one out. I have news for you Soth….. If some pos hitter hits the ball over the OF head against Frankie then good job to the hitter and he deserves a double. He hit a ball that if Vlad is anywhere near his normal position he catches easily.

Lots of people here have been saying to let Bulger pitch in Anaheim instead of AAA

His K rate was BETTER than Frankie’s in 2002 when he was in the minors. He pitched probably the best 3 inning relief stint the Angels have gotten all year.

However can someone please assure me that he is even eligible to be on the postseason roster. I don’t believe he was on the Roster on Aug. 31st and isn’t that the day they have to be on the roster to be eligible? And yea I know they might be able to pull some bs injury thing but if they put Speier on it and he’s NOT injured he could pull something with the players association right? Anyway if Speier is on the playoff roster and Bulger isn’t then I will be pissed.

Speier needs to go. He’s a load of crap and it’s sickening that he’s even still on the roster along with GMJ. Lackey shouldn’t have even been in the game when he gave up that 2 run homer. The Angels had Frankie, Shields and Dondo all ready to go and rested. That’s all on Soth.

by MH252525 on Sep 6, 2008 8:46 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The Angels can pull a Frankie again

Lots of guys on the DL he could replace if it came to that.

Witty .sig goes here.

by scareduck on Sep 6, 2008 9:26 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bulger can be on the play-off roster because...

Escobar is on the 60 day DL. The another Speier bummer – he’s owed $4.75M in ’09 and $5.25M in ’10. In other words, $10,000,000 and two more years.

I was uncool before uncool was cool.

anyone

who was in the organization as of 08/31/08 is eligible for the postseason roster.

BOTG: the lineup for getting shutout over the final six innings

Bulger was great. But why have him throw 3 innings and 44 pitches? That’s too heavy an outing for a closer-type guy.

Losing this game is bad but the toll of extra innings is much, much worse.

Ain't no stoppin' us now. We got the groove!

by Fan Since 1981 on Sep 7, 2008 6:23 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

They would have been better off bringing in Speier in the 10th in order to save the bullpen. lol.
Man he sucks.

by stolenbases on Sep 7, 2008 6:27 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Turn the page...again...

(man this book is getting long and predictable).

Speier gets my sympathy of the game, because I knew he was going to lose the game.

Frankie gets a pass because there were some defensive positioning/plays that could have been made that would have made his night much easier.

I blame the psyche of John Lackey. He was bitching and moaning over and over with that home plate ump. Can’t let those things get to you. He did not have the mental makeup to get over it.

by Downing Rules on Sep 7, 2008 10:15 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Frankie deserves BOTG over Speier.

If he does his job, Speier never enters the game.

by snowhor on Sep 7, 2008 12:21 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Speier sucks.

Once I saw he was in the game I did not bother following it anymore. He is game over, but not in a good way.

Seattle I would like to thank you for sucking. It allows me to get back to my roots: Hating Fremont.

Lackey should have been BOTG

He blew a 3-run lead. Frankie was #2. We should have never let it get to Speeieieier.

Howie Kendrick, the Eric Davis of 2nd basemen...great when he's on the field, IF he's on the field...
