Kendry Morales Insurance?
The Angels bought an independent league power hitter, Tim Dorn (h/t 3 Days of Cryin'). He's a big dude, too. Maybe the Angels wanted to keep Morales from feeling too comfortable? I don't know anything about the Frontier Leauge, or the team that the guy was purchased from but he hit lots of home runs! He's 25 years old so it's hard to tell what kind of prospect he is. Wonder what level he'll start at?
Is this guy for real? Or is he more like a poor man's Richie Sexson? Anyone know anything else about him? Looks like he'll be at spring training.

Wasn't Dorn the guy in Major League?

Must have been his dad ;-)
… Roger Dorn.
The movie knowledge around here is always impressive.

Who hits a bird and then runs out to the outfield to make sure it's ok?
Vlad? Torii? Somebody else?

well
the good news is that the guy can mash (in the independent leagues), but he also knows how to take a freaking walk!
according to The Miners’ Site, he put up a line of .299/.375/.551 with 23 HRs, 83 RBIs and 45 BBs through 93 games and 354 ABs. Oh, and he only committed 1 error.
who knows what that translates into in the MLB, but i like it so far.
Kotch would've had that.

Tigers
I think the guy was a 21st round pick of the Tigers in 2001 or 2002. If he’s the same guy – and he’s in the Independent League after 6 years in the minors, I suspect he’s the back-up fungo hitter during spring training.

Looks like he was drafted by the Mariners
in the 14th round, in 2003. Different guy.

Would he be the tallest Angel of all time?
Interesting bit of research for anyone interested (that person’s obviously not me).

Perfect
The Marty McSorley of the Angels….but instead of a hockey stick across the head of Brashear it would be a baseball bat across the head of (name your BoSlut here).

Except if he became a Baseball version of McSorley, in the World Series, he would get caught for excessive pine tar on his bat and ruin the whole dang thing for the Halos.

AHHHHHHHhahaha
nice. I still cringe when I think of that call on the stick….that turned the WHOLE tide of the series. What a great team though. Hrudey, Zhidnik, Taylor, oh and a guy named Gretzky.

There is another guy
Mark Trumbo is on the 40 man roster for the angels. Hits for power, young, and he’s the 1st base insurance for Morales. Not too sure he’ll be ready next season though.
by TheAntiSox on Jan 10, 2009 10:14 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Trumbo
As I recall, he rocketed from Orem to Rancho Cucamonga and was promoted to Arkansas in the middle of last season—where he was slowed down by the AA-level of pitching.
From what I have read, he is a promising young man with some holes in his swing and a defensive game which is a work in progress. Not ready by 2009, 2010 but maybe 2011 he’ll get called up.
