Kendry Morales First Pro At-Bat
Mr. Personality has a link at his blog to a video he shot of Kendry Morales hitting a HR on the 2nd pitch he ever saw as a professional. It is pretty awesome and those of us doubting the offense for the 2009 Angels might feel a little better watching it. I know I did.

yeah, and Courtney Love married Kurt Cobain
She had a hit in her second album as a professional.
In all seriousness, I’m looking forward to seeing what Kendry can do full-time.

Looks like he's put on some pounds since 2005
But hey, so have I. Then again, I’m not the Angels’ 1B of the future.
The greatest feature of that footage is the “oh shit!” overheard in the dugout, presumably from a Quakes coach or trainer. Quite a show for a pro debut.

Cut the guy some slack regarding his current weight...
This video is taken after he was on a raft in shark-infested waters in the Caribbean for a few days – that tends to help you lose weight…
He’s probably just happy to have food again.

I remember that day -
That video surfaced a day or two after it happened and I was geeked!
Looking forward to 500AB’s from him and Wood this year.
But, I still want Dunn to DH.

Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!

i dig the SMALL amount of attitude
when guys take it overboard (like Manny), it gets annoying.
i like it when Napoli throws his bat too.
Kotch would've had that.

Reality
You love attitude when it’s your team.
You hate attitude when it’s the other team.
Haven’t most of us always enjoyed Frankie’s showboating after he sealed a victory? Now imagine the Mets beating us in interleague play, and him doing that. I’d want to punch him in the damn face.
Natural fan reactions :)
Napoli IS the power bat in 2009. Watch.

no no
when i guy hits a homer and gives the bat a little flick, it’s justified, no matter which team he plays for.
when a guy stands at home plate for 10 seconds, lifts his arms up and watches his home run fly over the fence, he’s a douche bag.
Kotch would've had that.

so what about after Vlad gets buzzed by a pitch
And the very next pitch crushes it and stands there to watch. Is it OK because he’s just responding to the pitcher?
Napoli IS the power bat in 2009. Watch.

he did that, what, once?
against Campillo, right?
since Campillo was a douche bag, he deserved it. who throws at Vlad’s head TWICE??
anyway, i just watched the clip again… Vlad didn’t stand there like Manny. he watched it for a second, then started running.
Kotch would've had that.

eh,
i think he’s done it a few times. but no, it’s never to the extent of Manny. Keep in Manny is a unique-variety douchebag. haha

I never liked Frankie's antics.
I liked the outcome but not the celebration.

I like that video
Morales being aggressive and pulling the ball. Give Mickey some more time to work his magic and Morales will only pull the ball by accident. We all saw in the postseason that Kendry’s real power is to LCF.

Kendry has plenty of power to right center as well...
I’m the guy in Right Field Pavilion in the bright yellow shirt with his arms raised when Kendry
Hits this Shot
and this one
And just for fun, my favorite Angel moment of 2006. Lets bring back this guy,
I don’t care how much range Aybar has

That homerun isn't indicative of what will happen this season.
I can’t wait to see what happens this season. I’m optimistic that this season will be very surprising for the naysayers.

What I noticed: the pitches he was clubbing around the park were high in the zone.

You know what I noticed...
The sun rose in the east today.
just kidding…
High pitches tend to get hit. A long way…

I remember being at that game with my girlfriend (now wife)...
we were actually driving home from Dodger Stadium (after watching the Angels win) and listening to Angel talk. They mentioned Kendry was going to play for the Quakes that night, so we decided to go watch the Quakes game as well!
We made it in time to see his first AB. We stayed till the end of the game, and I remember the Quakes having a big lead and then losing the game in the ninth inning after the other team had a Grand Slam.
We didn’t care because we just went to see Morales and had already seen the Angels beat the Dodgers that day. Great day of baseball all around though.

Coolio.
Didn’t Napoli do this too back in 06?
I remember someone from the Angels minor team doing to last year during his first at-bat with the Angels.

First at-bat
This summer in Orem….2nd game of the season….Gabe Jacobo in his 1st pro at-bat hit the FIRST pitch he saw (a fast-ball) over deep center field fence for a jack.

It looks like he can bunt, too! ;)

Yeah, of course he's on the radar
of the front office…
he drew 11 walks in 275 AB’s.
Look for him to get exploited in High A, and Double A. If he can keep hitting .330 as he moves up, I’ll rethink my opinion, but he really has to crush the ball to get by with walk rates worse than Garret Anderson.

Premature reaction
From a quick glance, it looks like he was a college guy and he’s feasting on all the meatballs served up to him by guys who may have just come from high school and/or other pitchers who have yet to establish themselves in a full season of professional baseball.
We will see if he can continue to hit well – he looks like he can hit for some pop.

Therefore, we can expect 1 HR per every 2 pitches seen this season?
What the hell are we worrying about?
