Angels given no chance by ESPN
hope the Angels use this as motivation because every ESPN prediction has the Yankees winning the series. Also Steve Phillips flopped his pick he picked the halos to go all the way now suddenly changed his picks. They, again east coast biased not even giving the angels a shot.so check it out. Lets hope the Halos stick it to the losers of ESPN http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2009/matchup/_/teams/angels-yankees

When was the last time ESPN offered any interesting analysis?
I believe it was the on the 12th of never.
Closer to ...
The 25th hour on Feb. 30 of 2347.
I’ve tried to limit my ESPN and even MLB Network salivation over the Yankees.
Nothing like beating up on a left-handed stepchild (the Twins) and acting like that really meant something other than an opportunity to be another stepping-stone on the way to the Angels 2009 championship
"And the Anaheim Angels are the Champions of Baseball!"
exactly what
i was gonna say. they beat the damn twins!! how good can you really feel about yourself by beating blackburn and pavano?

They had him on Mike & Mike this morning. When he was asked about the Angels-Red Sox series, all he talked about was what the Red Sox needed to do to fix themselves in the offseason. What a joke.

Not too worried about it
Olney is a total joke though thinking the series will only go 5. I look at all the “Yankees in 7” picks as them saying that the series will essentially be a tossup and they are going with the Yankees because of homefield/better offense/some other small advantage. It does look pretty ridiculous to see 8/8 for the Yankees though considering how we just manhandled the best team in the history of baseball in 3 games.

Has this clown apologized for his prediction of Boston beating the Angels yet?
No? Until he’s man enough to say “I have NO IDEA what I’m writing/talking/blogging/thinking/hoping/wishing/fantasizing about” – his opinion just doesn’t matter to me.

But he still believes that it was a "must beat the Red Sox, Finally" kind of thing for the team.
The media certainly played up that angle, and as a fan it was on my mind, but Torii has said it all along: this has nothing to do with them. This is about winning, and they’re not satisfied just because they won three games. I hope Olney is developing a taste for that crow, ‘cause he’s got more coming his way. Maybe once all the East Coast teams are gone, he’ll actually pay attention.

reverse jinx
Simmons admits that it’s a reverse jinx. He would love to have the Angels crush the Yanks.
These guys are tools
Seriously guys? No one thinks the Angels have a chance? They have the better playoff rotation: Sabathia is good, but Burnett is wild and Pettitte is too old. The Yankees went with the eight-day division series schedule because they don’t even have a fourth starter. Their middle relief isn’t any more reliable than the Angels’ either, and they play crap defense.
Of course, they have a spectacular offense, but the Angels came in right behind them (despite not playing in a stadium the size of a matchbox) and anyone can go cold for a few games, especially against good pitching. I can understand the Yankees being slightly favored, but eight for eight? These guys are really hacks. They just don’t care enough to cover the other team.
by Suboptimal on Oct 12, 2009 7:01 PM PDT reply actions 1 recs
Just curious, what are the Halos' combined performances against the NYY starters, lifetime?
I know they’ve seen Sabathia, Burnett, and Pettite a whole bunch over the last four or five years—and Joba, too! I seem to remember they do pretty decently against Sabathia and Pettite but have some difficulty against Burnett—though they did light up Joba a bit back in July.
Anyone?
RIP Nick Adenhart.
"When the Babe tries to call his shot, I hope Nick puts one in his ear."
--RallyMonkey5
7-5 vs Sabathia 4.72 ERA
2-2 vs Burnett 4.4 ERA
10-12 vs Pettit 4.7 ERA
0-0 vs Joba 3.97 ERA
~Till the Halo burns out...
On the flip side
Lackey vs Yankees 5-7 with 4.66 ERA
Weaver vs Yankees 4-2 with 5.88 ERA
Kazmir vs Yankees 6-5 with 2.67 ERA
Saunders vs Yankees 1-0 with 5.00 ERA
~Till the Halo burns out...
Hmmm, wonder if we're going with the exact same rotation as last time, then.
Why not start Big John and Kazmir in Yankee stadium first, then have Weaver pitch at home (where rumor has it he’s better anyway) to give him more of an advantage, and then have Saunders/Santana also pitch in the home environment for perhaps more confidence, before bringing it back to NY if necessary?
Normally I would say why not just start Kazmir in Game 1, but given John’s performance last Thursday and Kazmir’s crapping the bed yesterday, probably better to stick with what works—but, still, I’d go w/ Kaz in Game 2…
RIP Nick Adenhart.
"When the Babe tries to call his shot, I hope Nick puts one in his ear."

I agree...
I’ve been thinking about this since the Yanks clinched. IMO, it is best to play Weaver in Anaheim, especially afer the way he pitched the last time in NY in September. Kazmir has always pitched well against the Skanks, I think he should start game 2…
i give alot of the credit

NO no no...
The Williamsport dimensions of that home run derby field have nothing to do with the offensive numbers. Their just the most awesomest team ever!!
YOU DON'T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARKSIDE.....
I think my favorite part of all the analysis is how previous postseasons are suddenly a non-factor.
In the ALDS, all we heard about was how we can’t beat the Red Sox in the postseason, blah blah blah. Now suddenly the shoe is on the other foot, and no one wants to talk about the last two Angels-Yankees postseason matchups.
~Till the Halo burns out...
Ha!
Although I think this is also the exact reason why we shouldn’t be smugly assuming we’re going to beat/trounce the Yankees—even though I’m really tempted to say that we will, it would scream of bad karma to adopt that attitude after what just happened with Boston! No?
RIP Nick Adenhart.
"When the Babe tries to call his shot, I hope Nick puts one in his ear."

No, it's true.
What happened in 2005 and 2002 has absolutely no bearing on what happens this year.
I just think it’s interesting that suddenly people who held the reverse belief have suddenly shut up about it.

You and Clutch and Zu are way too rational. Cut it out. j/k
Seriously, this team is not the same team as last year, or even since April. They’ve been through all sorts of hell, and one that is just about the worst possible.
However, I would like to take a look at how we did against the Yankees all season this year, and the more recent the better, because those stats would give us a better picture than any from past seasons.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
Everybody's right.
History won’t repeat itself this year at all.
This year, Angels sweep.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.

I don't give a damn what they say.
They’re just filling air time. They have no better idea of the outcome than anyone else.
Someone should keep a lifetime scorecard on their predictions to show their succes rate, and give their percentage before each nw prediction.
Man, that would be quite a project. Might be something for the offseason!
If I have some time one of these days (ha!), I’ll see about looking at each analyst’s predictions for each of the postseason series over the past 10 years and look at their so-called win percentage—it will be interesting to see how they did! I’ll be they’re 0-fer in series where the Angels have actually won…! But somehow I think a bunch picked the Angels over the Red Sox LAST year, interestingly enough (as I think I learned through a heated exchange with OTM around this time in 2008!)!
RIP Nick Adenhart.

We WERE the better team last year.
It was a shame we didn’t play like it.
Let's do this for Nick Adenhart, Courtney Stewart, and Henry Pearson.
Go look a the entire thing
and check out how many of them picked the Dodgers over the Cards. I wouldn’t take that too seriously.
Funny, Kevin Baxter of the LA Times picked the Cards in three, but I never saw a prediction from him regarding the Angels/Red Sox.
His columns during this series were very positive about the Angels, but I don’t know if he actually picked them.
THIS… IS… ANAHEIM!!
In the grand scheme the legend of this team is already written.
There will probably be a book written about this season.
The story could start April 9, 2009 and end October 11, 2009 and it would be one hell of a story.
But hopefully it ends with a World Series trophy.

Screw those east coast biased people at espn. Let them continue to pick the bosux, oh wait, how did that turn out Mr. Gammons and Olney? Now its on to picking the skanks. It’s going to be a very tough series no doubt, but I doubt that were just going to lie down for the skanks to fit their prognostications and bias. Screw them, after all, did we lose to the sux?

Just so you guys know
I ventured over to the ALCS page pretty much immediately after the Yankees bounced the Twins on Sunday.
7 out of 8 had picked the Yankees, and 1 had the Angels in 7. I really wish I could remember who it was, but I didn’t think anything of it at the time since I had no idea he would end up being a spineless fuck who changed his prediction to save face with his east coast pals.
So, yes. One of those fucktards that calls themselves a sports journalist flip-flopped his answer to go with the latest new trend.

It's all good
The experts and so called pundits are rarely right. I actually didn’t like the Angels chances last year because too many of them were picking the Angels. The fact that so many are picking the Yankees actually has me more confident that ever.
I tried to find the preditions of the Fox pundts… Anyone see them? I know Dayn Perry is picking the Yanks. And that’s just beautiful.
EPSN is Red Sox Nation
I find it odd that they all picked the Yankees when in the spring most of them didn’t even pick them to make the play-offs. Funny how a year changes things.
I find it even more odd that none of them picked the Angels since the network is clearly biased towards the Red Sox and try to stick it to the Yanks at every chance they get.
Perhaps the Yanks are just the better team….
I guess we’ll all find out starting Friday.

These guys are right.Yanks in 6. Everyone knows that the pitching is better, so why argue? The first part of the order is better and even though the Angels are faster, it doesn’t matter. I would rather have power than speed anyday of the week. And by the way, The yankees have not been swept in a home series in months. We will take care of the Angels at home.
