Yeah, these're the only game all season I've watched.

Assuming that’s true, he hasn’t produced for 4 straight games.

The only thing I said is his performance in the playoffs has been “bad”.

Is that wrong? Tell me, please, that I am wrong.

by shiftyeyedgoat on Oct 17, 2009 5:13 PM PDT up reply actions

The most crucial game of the season

Hasn’t shown up yet. The most crucial game of the season is down 3-0.

You’re in the ALCS, off Figgins’ back for a big part of it. Show some respect.

by john.kmiecik on Oct 17, 2009 5:12 PM PDT up reply actions

no, the most crucial "TIME" of the season is the playoffs.

All of them. From the opening game of the DSs to the closing of the World Series.

If you don’t show up in those games, you’re letting your team down. Period.

by shiftyeyedgoat on Oct 17, 2009 5:15 PM PDT up reply actions

By tossing out the first 162 games?

You’ve got a very, very warped sense of a player’s value.

by john.kmiecik on Oct 17, 2009 5:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Guy, you're a troll.

I will leave it at this.

Figgins has been bad in these playoffs. He deserves the criticism he receives.

Uh huh, sure I am.

but honestly…the last game at the Dome, he thought he should take 1B after only 3 balls. Just…I dunno. Seems harmless.

one reason to like barry bonds (from wikipedia)

During the 2002 World Series, Joe Buck was introduced to single season home run record holder Barry Bonds:7

I met Barry Bonds the other day, and when I was introduced as Joe Buck, lead broadcaster for FOX, Barry Bonds turns to me and says ‘So?’ We’ll see how professional I am when Mr. Bonds steps up to the plate. If I don’t throw a ‘so’ into my announcing, I don’t think I will be doing my job.

and he wants to be like dad...well that ship went away a long ass time ago

In 2007, Buck was only scheduled to call eight regular season MLB games out of a 26-game schedule for FOX (along with a handful of regional Cardinals telecasts on FSN Midwest). In an interview with Richard Sandomir of the New York Times, Buck defended his reduced baseball commitment:9

If you or the casual fan doesn’t want to consider me the No. 1 baseball announcer at FOX, it’s not my concern … I don’t know why it would matter. I don’t know who had a more tiresome, wall-to-wall schedule than my father, and I know what it’s like to be a kid in that situation … He was gone a lot. He needed to be. I understood it. So did my mom. Because my career has gone the way it’s gone, I don’t have to go wall to wall. …While I’m deathly afraid of overexposure, I’m more afraid of underexposure at home with my wife and girls.10

On July 2, 2008, while speaking with Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio, Buck said (jokingly) that he is tired of baseball and doesn’t enjoy calling the games like he used to. Two days later, Buck stated that he’d been “joking” to Cowherd but added that he still believes the games take too long to play.

Brian Cashman says he never intended to paint the Yankees as an underdog.

Good, because the underdog label doesn’t fit a $200 million team that was baseball’s only 100-game winner this season. When the Yankees play the Rocky theme late in games, it’s just not right.

So when Cashman told Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record that “To be honest, I think [the Angels] look down on us,” that didn’t sound right, either.

The Angels look down on the Yankees? Come on.

Asked today about the quote, the Yankees general manager didn’t back away from it. But he did try to clarify it, and in doing so, he gave what seems to be a fairer pre-series portrayal of this ALCS.

“This is Ali-Frazier,” Cashman said. "Two tremendous teams, with a great deal of respect and class on both ends. But I do think the Angels have found a way to get a comfort level when they’re playing us. I think they stand tall, and whether they look down at us or we look up at them, they don’t fear us. I think they feared the Red Sox [before the first round], but I don’t think they fear us.

“I think they’re happy they’re playing us.”

Nice try, Bobby.

So far most of the balls we’ve hit hard this series have found gloves. If we keep putting good swings on the ball, we shoulds start scoring.
