A - Roid's a prick
I think most fans here missed it but if you taped game one look at the play at the pate. Kate's boyfriend is a piece of shit. After colliding with Jeff Mathis, a clean play, he smacks his right hand into Jeff's face and tries to hold his head down. Fox broadcasters did not point out this part of the play. This turd needs to be taught a lesson.
When a teammate is blind-sided like this he should be dealt with. I am still bothered by that other roider Barry Bonds when he was given a free pass after "admiring" his worthless homerun off of Percy in '02.
May Kate become as dry as Madonna's ancient and arid loins.

While true, I like John Lackey's quote a lot
“It’s October, man,” Lackey said. “I’d run over my mom in October, and I wouldn’t care. He definitely hit Matty in the head, but you get it done any way you can.”
Link.

agree
If it were Erstadt rnning over Posada, I wouldn’t care at all.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

EXACTLY!!
You can get away with almost anything in October and not feel one ounce of guilt.
I plan to live forever. So far so good.

A-Rod trying to hold Mathis' head down is a dirty play but what would you expect
from him. He does more than a few unacceptable plays.
As for the hit, I posted it in another thread, but the initial hit was rather girly. Mathis can thank the baseball Gods that A-Rod doesn’t know how to hit someone because he threw his arms at him instead of leading with body and taking him out like Erstad or Jack Clark took out Soth.

You guys are crazy...
A-Rod didn’t slap him in the head and hold his head down… Lackey was talking about how his elbows collided with Mathis’ head when they had the collision. Ramming a catcher at the plate is a perfectly legal baseball play, and he was called out anyway, so not sure why you’re whining.

Agree...
Whining has no place. This place was all abuzz when Ersty pummeled that catcher from the Braves a few years ago. Fair is fair.
A-Rod is a once in a generation player – we should appreciate him while we have him.

Yeah, I really appreciate him
the way he can so easily stick needles in his ass…few men have that kind of tolerance. Really commendable.

I'm wondering if there are any decent anti-Yankee fans
that don’t feel the need to take apart everything about A-Rod and bash him every chance they get. He didn’t do anything. The umps didn’t have a problem with it. The Angels didn’t have a problem with it. MATHIS didn’t have a problem with it. He collided (which is perfectly legal), and then flipped over Mathis because of the momentum of the collision. He didn’t do anything wrong. He was angry because he was called out, but that was it. He didn’t even argue.
You guys really are crazy. And he was called OUT! Stop complaining.

I'm sorry
but I don’t think you’ll EVER find a half decent anti-Yankees fan

they're out there
just difficult to find. Especially over in Blow Sux Nation and, apparently, over here.

We don't mind most Yankee fans.
Just the douchewads who come over acting elitist.

Yea well
every team has D-Bag fans, don’t they? Most aren’t. Or most shouldn’t be.

I saw nothing wrong with the play
A-Rod didn’t even really hit him that hard. A-Rod came in hands first (!) and kinda shoved Mathis over and tripped over him. Erstad’s play against the Braves was much more violent. Ersty lowered his shoulder and bowled the catcher over.
It’s October kids. Get over it.

It was a good play
And I hate to say it, but on the replays he looked safe. However, most times if the ball beats the player to the plate on a play like that, the runner is called out.

Honestly
As long as you collide, and the catcher holds the ball, you’re out. No questions asked.

Except for A Rod never touched home plate
But of course, you wouldn’t expect that announcers to notice that while they are sucking off the Yankees.

Compared to Erstad, A-Rod came into home plate like Cindy Brady
Now THIS is a hit.

Upon further review
Nothing wrong with going into home plate like Cindy Brady. The Erstad/Estrada collision is pretty brutal.

Just another Halo victory

Holy shit.
Erstad lowered the boom.
Strikeouts are boring- Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

I don’t have a problem with what A-Rod did. I don’t think was malicious. And the fact that Big John didn’t plant his foot up his ass pretty much says that the Angels didn’t have any problem with it. It does look like he slapped at Mathis’ head AFTER the hit, but I really don’t think he was trying to smack him.
by firebird81 on Oct 17, 2009 2:36 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
How about a compromise?
It wasn’t malicious…and A-Roid is a prick anyway…

WAAAAAAAH!!!
God our fan base is getting whinier and whinier every day. Maybe we should play at Wrigley.
The worst thing about this play was how spastic and feminine A-Rod can make a plate collision look. Other than that, I don’t see the issue.
Apologies in advance.

Eh, the hit was clean,
it was the quick extra-curricular activity where he pushes his head down after he’s called out that got my blood boiling.
I love heavy collisions at the plate, but if you’re out, take your pride with you to the dugout.
by shiftyeyedgoat on Oct 17, 2009 4:38 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree shiftyeyed
Exactly! Its not the collision, which hell yes should be violent, its what what he did after that! He took a cheap shot after the fact when he shoved his head.He knew he was out! So typical of that dbag, reminds me of his little stunt of trying to slap the ball away from Arroyo while running to first. Pathetic!
by NJinHB on Oct 18, 2009 12:27 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions 0 recs
I caught this (or something to the effect) at full speed, live.
I thought it looked like a cheap shot elbow. definitely a cheap shot, more forearm than elbow afterward. but I love how nobody at Fox could even point it out, they’ve got like 8 camera angles and super-slo mo with like five times as many frames per second.
