Angels Hold Sunday Afternoon Workout
There have been 69 postseason series slated for 7 Games where one team went up 2 games to 0.
13 of those series were comebacks by the team down 0-2. Will the Angels match Mike Scioscia's jersey number and be the 14th in baseball history?
One of these teams was the 2004 Red Sox overcoming a 3-0 ALCS deficit. Name the Other 12...

I've got the LCSes
Both from ’85 — Cards over Dodgers, Royals over Jays.
At least one of the Dodgers-Yankees series went that way … I’ll vote for ’81.

I'd be happier if the Angels lost yesterday like the Dodgers are losing today.
The gutwrenching losses tend to linger.
It’s much easier to “turn the page” when you’re getting shellacked 8-0.

nothing wrong with thinking the Halos are done this season. I for one Do NOT believe that they are thru and I truly believe they will take this to 7 and it will be anyone’s game. Curious? Those who voted 2010, How Many Games Do You Think The Halos Will Win?

Oh, also
I predict the Angels take 2 of 3 in LA (Games 3 and 5) and the Yankees close it out in game 6 back in the Bronx.

So you are saying .....
the Yankees are the better team?? Cuz’ to this point, the Angels have handed you both games. That my friend is the Angels beating the Angels, not the Yankees beating the Angels. I’m not saying the Yanks can’t beat the Halos on their own, these are 2 evenly matched teams. What’s your take? And are you from NYC or ever lived in NY, CT, or NJ or are you a bandwagoner?
When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!
by Dono Romantico on Oct 18, 2009 7:51 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
You asked a lot of questions there
Yes, I believe the Yanks are a better team. I’m aware the Angels haven’t been playing their best, but neither have the Yankees. Their offense continues to struggle and if it ever breaks out it will obviously help. I also believe these are the two best teams in the MLB, but the Yanks have the pitching advantage, both in the rotation and the bullpen.
I doubt any game will be a blowout or particularly high-scoring, but I also doubt the Angels will take 4 of 5 from the Yankees. So while indeed the Angels have done a lot to help the Yanks win, the Yankees won nonetheless and are up 2-0. And sure, the Angels could suddenly cure their yips and start hitting when it counts, but it’s just as likely that A) the Yankees lineup (namely Tex, Matsui, and Cano) starts hitting their averages and/or B) the Angels just don’t come around.
To answer your final question, the answer is neither. I’ve never lived on the East Coast. I in fact have spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest, the xception being a regrettable two year stint in Southeast Idaho. However, my grandfather grew up in the Bronx and was a Yankee fan. He died about 15 years before I was born, but he raised my dad a Yankee fan and my dad has done the same with me.
I would also like to stipulate that I have absolutely nothing against the Angels other than they are playing the Yankees. I like the way they (usually) play and wish New York played the same way more often instead of waiting on the three run homer. All my views and predictions are purely my opinions based off of watching this series and a lot of Yankee games and roughly 20 Angel games this year.

Nothing wrong with that.
Most yankee and red sox fans have a vague understanding of new york and boston, possibly making a stop in Logan International, or spending a couple of years at NYU. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be a fan of America’s team?
And even though they run a great blog at lookout landing, the mariners aren’t really in vogue.
So, congrats on doing what your parents do, it might not be noble, but you can’t go wrong following a team with a 200 million dollar payroll.

I agree. The Yankees have NOT been playing their best.
They have been trying to offer up the first couple of games to the Halos. But the Halos appear to be much, much, better at Victory Avoidance right now. It is not a pretty series. Both sides deserve better.
And, should both sides play to their potential, we can return to a more accurate comparison between the two teams. Such as we had back on July 10, 11 and 12.

And down 2-1 is what we’ll be when Jered Weaver is finished tomorrow.

Wanna get in our heads?
Rock CC on short rest in Game 4 after winning game 3. I think a lot of us Yank fans are assuming CC is invincible. Our balloon would seriously deflate because our ace’s aura of unbeatability (probably not a real word) would be gone and the series would be 2-2 with another game still in LA with wild AJ going against Lackey.
If that happens there will be a lot of panicking, several “Fire Girardi!” calls, and the rally Black Taco would be dead.

There is also a possibility that Pettite outduels Weaver and the Yanks are up 3-0. Though this is not a situation I forsee. I pick the Angels to win Game 3 simply because they are a good team and due for a win.

None of the true yankee fanbase would really mind, since joey knucklehead from the bronx could care less if a left coast bandwagoner jumped shipped and got on the angel bandwagon…its not nearly as full (lots of leg room!) and we actually show some genuine interest in the team and players.

This is actually a valid point.
I strongly believe that Girardi going with a 3 man Rotation is a mistake. CC himself has performed poorly in the past on 3 days rest and we have rocked him before. This is truely a lot to ask for a pitcher to, especially on the road in a LCS. Girardi is gambling by going against the odds. If we can win game 3 this decision will either make or break the Yanks.

I'm the first to agree that we've had success
against Sabathia in the past. Unfortunately, he hasn’t pitched poorly on three days rest in his career. He’s done it four times during the regular season, with a 1.01 ERA. Yes, he struggled against the Phillies last year in game one of the NLDS, though, on three days rest. I guess there is hope that will happen again.

last year in GM 2 of NLDS he was torched on 3 days rest

I referenced last year's NLDS in my post
I know. Maybe I had Game #1 vs #2 switched, but I made my point.
He’s only struggled once on three days. Otherwise, he’s been very tough. Trust me, I hope he gets lit up like a pinball machine – and we worked him pretty well on July 12th, so there IS hope. But we’ll beat him because we’re better, not necessarily because of three days rest.

i got your point, but my point was going against the odds
There are a lot of factors that go into this. First he will be away, He already has admitted that he will have to compromise his game and take away from his fastball and focus on control. If we win GM 3 there will be a ton of pressure and he may have some ghosts of performing poorly in the post season before. The list goes on and on. And my point is that it is going against the odds. Could he be the rule to the exception. Not yet he hasn’t and until he does it, it is a huge rookie manager error IMO.
I guess all that I’m saying that as an Angel Fan and seeing players in the likes of Figgy and Vlad which have monster regular seasons but day 1 and on in the post they disappear and fold, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him collapse in that environment.
by RedAces on Oct 19, 2009 12:40 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
He struggled
because that was fourth straight start on three day’s rest, and the last outing before that one was a complete game. He was gassed. His first three on short rest resulted in a combined .83 ERA. and a WHIP of .90
Remember, all four of those starts are in succession:
September 20th: 5.1 innings, 1 ER (105 pitches)
September 24th: 7.0 innings, 1 ER (108 pitches)
September 28th: 9.0 innings, 0 ER (122 pitches)
October 2nd: 3.2 innings, 5 ER
He only struggled because he was completely worn out, having thrown his arm off just getting to the playoffs. This year he’s on regular rest and hasn’t thrown on short rest all year.
