If Figgins leaves...

Just a thought about what to do if Figgins departs for greener money, er pastures. We need a leadoff man. Here's my proposal. First re-sign Bobby Abreau as the Right Fielder. Then we make this trade.

We send Rafael Rodriguez, Trevor Bell and Terry Evans to the Tampa Bay Rays for Carl Crawford. We then sign Crawford to an extension.

This gives all you guys have have wood for Brandon Wood just what you desire as he becomes the third basemen, ( until mid June when his .167 avg. finally lands his useless butt on the bench for Izturis).

Also if we do not bring back Guerrero, we move Rivera to Dh.

And i have to throw this in. Since HGH really wants out, and it looks like Lackey is going too, lets trade HGH and cash to the Cincinnati Reds for Bronson Arroyo. And don't tell me the guy can't pitch. Nobody, not even Cliff Lee had a better final 12 starts than Arroyo.

Anyway, just a thought on something we could do to improve the team without spending a ton of cash.

Ugh...

Can we get some quality control here, Rev?

No way that trio or crap yields Crawford. Crawford ain’t the best thing out there, but he is pretty good – a lot better than a Bell/Evans package leads me to believe.

If we can get Arroyo for HGH, that’s great, but I don’t expect it. No one typically sends a serviceable starting pitcher away for a 4th outfielder, but good luck with that. I do agree with you that Arroyo isn’t awful. He is a 5th starter in 2009. ERA+ of about 90 and he can keep your team in 2/3 of the starts he makes. That actually has worth in this day and age. But, HGH ain’t gonna land him…

RIP Nick...

Buckle up, jimmuscomp. This site is about to convert into 6 solid months of player scenario crapola.

I wonder what John Lackey must think about how long Sosh left Juan Rivera in the playoff lineup?

In the Air Force we used to say that one third of the rumors were true

“We” being first term enlisted men (I was an E-4, Sergeant, error second base, 1970-74).

Here at Halos Heaven the trade proposals over/under is perhaps half of the Mendoza Line. That is a .100 batting average for those of you keeping score at home. “Would it have been different with Cliff Lee?” is an example of this oh-fer offal (I was stationed at Offutt AFB, Nebraska in 1971-72 where the underground newspaper was The Offal Times).

I am rolling over my phantom 2009 Angels World Series tickets into a two-thirds down payment for 2010 Angels season tickets. It does not matter what we do this off season with our roster. I am going to be at the Big A in 2010. For the record I went to 67 Angels games in 2009.

I would absolutely want the Angels to keep Bobby Abreu. Keeping John Lackey, Chone Figgins, and Darren Oliver would be nice. However, it is almost certain that the Halos will lose either Lackey or Figgins. Vladimir Guerrero will be wearing a different uniform next year. The Angels will probably be stuck with Gary Matthews Jr. unless we agree to pay 90% of Sarge Jr.’s salary to play on another team.

I still am not convinced that Brandon Wood is better than the departed Sean Rodriguez. Note that Sean Rodriguez is almost two months younger than Brandon Wood. If Wood does not walk more he will not stay in the majors. The major difference I see between Wood and 1966 phenom Jackie Warner (age 22 in 1966) is that Wood is an infielder and Warner was an outfielder. I don’t care what Wood did in the minors. Minor league records are the science fiction of baseball. Bob Baumann once hit 72 home runs in a season for Albuquerque. That is something to talk about around the campfire at a UFO convention in the desert!

Jackie Warner!

Thanks for reminding me of a name I haven’t thought about in years.

His most meaningful contribution to the team was that he brought us Roger Repoz.

Well done!

I was not aware that Jackie Warner was paired with Jack Sanford in a 15 June 1967 trade for Roger Repoz.. I did note that Jackie Warner’s last game was on 27 July 1966—just prior to his 23rd birthday on 1 August 1966. Once upon a time Roger Repoz was the next reincarnation of Mickey Mantle. Don’t believe those Yankee fans! They once said the same thing about Ricky Ledee!

I never saw Jackie Warner hit a home run. I saw Roger Repoz hit four home runs. I have seen Brandon Wood hit three home runs (all against the Yankees and also his lifetime total at the Big A) and Sean Rodriguez hit one home run. What do Wood and Rodriguez have in common? I saw them both hit a home run off of Carl “Pavano List” on 8 September 2008.

Back to the Jackie Warner era. The first time I saw his teammate Rick Reichardt club a home run was the first game of a doubleheader on 7 July 1967 against the Kansas City Athletics. Reichardt mashed two home runs off of southpaw Paul Lindblad. I was listening on the radio on 30 April 1966 when Reichardt mauled two home runs during a 12-run 8th inning at Fenway Park to spark the Angels from a 9-3 deficit to a 16-9 victory. The wall giveth and the wall take-it-awayeth. That game the wall giveth the Halos a victory. In the 12-run 8th inning Bobby Knoop had a double and home run, Jim Fregosi had a single and double, and Joe Adcock had a single and triple. That 30 April 1966 was the last blown save Dick Radatz ever had for the Red Sox. Bobby Knoop’s two-run home run saddled Radatz with the blown save.

I went to 67 ...

when I combine 2008 and 2009. You, sir, are a die hard even more so than myself. That’s amazing to attend that many games in one year.

I love this team.

So our ourfield would be C.C., Hunter, and Abreu?

Vlad or Juan at DH? The only reason Juan stayed with us was because we offered him a starting job at LF. I think you have to trade Juan if you want to keep Abreu and sign Holliday/Bay.

They want power. We want respect...

Yay! Another goddamn offseason of ridiculous trade proposals!

We are the Los Angeles Angels of the late 2000s

by Higz on Oct 28, 2009 11:58 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Can we be civil here?

This is a somewhat ridiculous proposal, and I can’t wait for your crow-eating post when Brandon Wood is hitting .580 with 50 HR and 200 RBI at the All-Star Break. But yeesh guys, ridiculous or not let’s be nice about it.

RIP Nick Adenhart.

I'll take

56 HR and 219 RBI ;-)

Nick, you will always be an Angel. And you will be missed.

Sadly all 50 HRs were in a 10 game stretch

and the Angels are just over .500 at the break…. haha…. That would be the worst.

and he his .059

in the postseason (if we make it)

If Wood hits 20 hr’s and drives in 70 runs i will humbly apologize. But i’m not worried. ;)

and now the crazy offseason predictions begin.

if we have to have one trade or idea a post, can we, at least, have realistic ones?

regarding to the post, the rays got rid of kaz so they could make room in their salary for crawford. why would they trade him? especially for that bundle of nothing?

and see if he gets constant at bats does he turn out to what everyone expected. something like morales this year

I heard he was gonna make 30 starts as well to win Cy Young award.

With a 29-1 record and a 1.73 ERA.

Nick would be proud.

Crawford trade

The reason I mentioned it was, in late september, even after the Kazmir trade, I kept seeing post from so called baseball insiders and experts saying that Crawford was on the trading block by the rays and was expected to be traded during the offseason.

So if the Kazmir trade was to free money to keep him, why did these experts claim he was still to be traded? And he is heading into his walk year, and the Rays may not be able to extend him. So why not get something for him now, when desperation is not an issue?

One guy that I like as a leadoff hitter

is Johnny Damon. He has decent power (I won’t expect him to hit 24 HRs in Anaheim but he could hit 12-15 in my estimation), he hits for a good average, he has good OBP, and 20+ steal speed. In a lot of ways, he’s just another Bobby Abreu except with less RBIs since he’s typically a leadoff hitter though he’s been hitting number 2 for the Yanks this year.

The only problem with Johnny Damon is that he is yet another outfielder and his defense sucks, even in left field. But if we let Vlad go we can either DH Damon and keep our OF as is (assuming we retain Abreu) or we could DH Abreu, put Damon in left, and move Rivera to right.

Our lineup could look something like this:

Damon
Abreu
Hunter
Morales
Rivera
Kendrick
Napoli
Izturis/Wood
Aybar

Damon can also be a replacement for Abreu if we lose out on him

and he still gives us a capable leadoff hitter.

Of course I’d rather have Figgins but I see Damon as a better option as a leadoff hitter than Izturis or Aybar.

Damon is kind of like a hot stripper

You know how could he is. You’ve seen his performances. But do you really want his stink on you? The dude has played for two of my most hated teams, the Red Sox and the Yankees.

He’s a good player and you know he’d be good on our team. But I couldn’t just forget where he was before us. And frankly that stops it for me.
