ESPN's Regular Season Awards
I know we all can't stand ESPN for their bias. We also can't stand their complete and utter disdain for everything Angels. It's my personal opinion however that Stark did a good job with who he chose for the awards.
Spoiler alert. Stark gives A.L. Manager of the year award to The Soth. A little exerpt:
And Mike Scioscia can run a team and lead human beings as well as anyone who's ever held that job. Ever.
Good choices and some good humor. Enjoy.

really, I don’t see how anyone on the face of this earth could make a legitimate argument that Scioscia shouldn’t win. I really don’t see any other team that’s gone through 1/10th what the Angels did with the same level of success. Taking a Rangers team that always hovers near .500 and once again taking them a few games over it doesn’t somehow make Ron Washington manager of the year.

Sooooooo...
the measurement “he’s a Yankee” is not legitimate?
The worst thing is the day you realize you want to win more than the players do. - Gene Mauch
Shocker...
that we got representation in the article via Scioscia. Another piece of ESPN garbage…where is mention of Kendry Morales? Forget it, seeing that Jeter, Teixiera, and Youkilis are in there…garbage…
Kendry was pretty mediocre in Sept.
his line was .269/.345/.452. In comparison, when Vlad won the MVP in ’04 his line was .363/.424/.726. Kendry has had a more than solid year, but MVP, methinks not.
This team is our extended family, That's why we love them no matter what the record, no matter what the score.
Kendry was wonderful, but he's maybe 4th at the 1B position alone
Youkilis, Teixeira or Miguel Cabrera are probably more deserving.
I don't buy Youkilis at all
I’d love to see the guy play in a pitcher’s ballpark for his home games, and then see what kind of numbers he puts up regularly. Those hitters just feast off that bandbox.
His career road OPS (which is essentially park-neutral at that point) is .867. VERY good, but certainly not in line with the .950-type OPSs he’s put up the last couple of seasons. For the season, his road OPS is the same as Kendry’s overall. Last season, he had a 119 point differential between home/road.
Same with Pedroia…a 132 point career differential between home/road. Simply astounding.

And Jeter as MVP is just an appalling joke.
Way to clear the 30 foot wall in right field all year, Derek. Amazing work.

I loved watching Jeter hit
a jam shot over the right field wall and Tex hit a fly ball over there too.
First we had a Salmon and now we have a Trout, let's see the same results.

Um, you don't want to look at Kendry's home/road splits then
Youk on the road this year is hitting .291/.405/.528. Morales? .273/.327/.491.
I'm completely aware of that, actually
But the point is that Kendry doesn’t have the added benefit of playing his home games (in which Youkilis has a higher OPS as well) in a hitter-friendly park. Youkilis most certainly does Whatever Kendry’s mental road block (no pun intended) may be, when he comes home to hit better, he doesn’t get to play in a band box to do so. So it stands to reason his numbers would be even better at home (and ergo, better overall), were he given the opportunity Youkilis has. Youkilis playing 81 home games in Anaheim would be significantly different than Youkilis playing 81 games in Fenway (where his SLG jumps by 42 points).

There is no way Soth doesnt deserve it

Some people are trying to argue Scioscia winning MOTY
The most loling of arguments being Joe Girardi.
The Big Red Machine V.2 is coming this Fall 2009. Go Halos!
loling?
More like rotflmaoing!
Not only did Scioscia lead the team to another LA West championship, but he did it in style: the second best record in baseball this season, a new franchise record for runs scored, and a few other historically-significant achievements that are evading my feeble memory right now.
I doubt that there’s ever been a season in baseball history where a manager’s contribution to his team’s performance has been more evident.

Can't rec this more
That he did it with all the adversity presented to him, too, especially with the death of a teammate added to it, makes it all the more evident what the Soth means to this club.
I hardly think Joe Girardi even holds a candle to that.
RIP Nick Adenhart.
