The most recent news I can find on Escobar is the attached article from CBS Sports. I can't get access to his MySpace page at work. I suspect his career is over, but has anyone heard any more recent updates on his shoulder?

He's done

I’m sure his pride will cause him to try again in the Spring, but after all the rehab he went through prior to last Spring, his shoulder was simply too fragile to stand up to the rigors of a season schedule, whether that was as a starter or as a reliever.

It is a shame to see his career end, but the guy is already a sort of anatomical freak, since his throwing shoulder already lacks one of the four muscles any of us have. That he could have pitched so effectively and delivered it in the low-to-mid 90s with only 3/4 of the normal musculature is unbelievable.

About what I suspect as well.

Aside from being an anatomical freak, he seemed like a decent teammate. Too bad.

All I know is...

I watched that preseason game in Petco against the Padres ( in GrainyVision via MLB.com) when he pitched so well and even hit the ball during his at-bats (earning him the famous Scioscia Glare), and it was all so hopeful. Everything was hopeful—the team had finished a scorching Spring Training in AZ, Nick Adenhart was still alive, and the biggest problem the team had was possibly too many starters (once Lackey and Santana were good to go).

Of course, in about 45 days it all went horribly wrong: Escobar had setbacks, Adenhart was killed, and then Vlad and Hunter went on the DL.

As it turned out, the team is still standing and prepping for one more storming of the World Series gates. If Scioscia isn’t Manager of the Year in the AL following this season, then the world has gone completely crazy.
