I take this as a sign that we are going to say good bye to Vladdy....
I cant imagine Abreu playing full-time RF next year again. Especially with Wood out of options. Im gonna go ahead and cherry pick MattWelch here and say this means Abreu will he our new DH and Chone will play OF with Woody at 3b.

What if we don't retain Chone?
then we will have a very similar if not identical outfield situation to this season. Which doesn’t really fet any complaints from me. Maybe, one or two complaints.

no not totally agreeing
if shone stays he wont be in the OF. we have wood without options as well as evans and wilson evans would come up next year and would share outfield time with garry mathews and abreu while abreu plays more DH and rotates with the other players mainly outfielders like last season.

Not to be mean, but punctuation is your friend and it will make your posts easier to read.
Also, Figgins’ first name is Chone. I know, it’s strange, but his mom wanted something different.

28 year old Terry Evans is not sharing time in Halos OF...
He’s done very little to solidify himself a spot on the 25 man roster. Also, you say nothing of Vlad. If Abreu is the part time DH then does Vlad disappear?

If nothing else, we've got Chris Pettit waiting in the wings, who seems like
he’d be atleast decent offensively and give us some much needed speed in the outfield.

Pettit had a really great year in SLC...
pretty bizarre considering that he batted 248. in AA the previous year. He also only played 60 games though. It seems that the problem with Pettit is that he is a Reggie Willits clone.
I dont foresee Pettit snagging a position on the 25 man roster next year but we’ll see how the re-signings play out and pre-season as well.

Pettit's got way more power than Reggie ever had.
He had a horrible year in AA because of injury, look at his 2 years in Rancho and Cedar Rapids and you’ll see why I’m so optimistic about the guy.

when we win the World Series
and Vlad finally gets his ring, he will retire anyways. Chone and Big John will be resigned along with Bobby.
When I'm not at the stadium, I'd rather be watching my Halos back in Costa Rica!

I think there is a zero percent chance
we resign all three of those guys.
It is just far too competitive of a market, and there are too many GMs out there who might pull a JP Ricciardi and overspend to the max on one of those players.
I brought sexy back, but they only gave me store credit....

You're probably right. But...
…I also think there is a higher chance of these 3 giving a “home team” discount, at least higher than what K-Rod was willing to consider last year.

Vlad won't retire
Said he’s got a lot of baseball left in today’s L.A. Times profile, and said he will come back to the Angels if he is allowed to. Comments from Sosh make me wonder if we’ll even offer him arb.
by mattwelch on Oct 6, 2009 5:07 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Offering Vlad arb
would be a major risk. What would he be awarded? 8M? 10M? More? It would most certainly be greater than what the market would bear. The Ninja will not take that risk, regardless of what happens with Abreu.
I think Lackey and Figgins are locks to be offered arb.

Vladdy Arb
If we offer Vladdy Arb and He accepts, he will only take a max 20% discount from this year’s salary, $15M. But Vladdy’s got to pencil in as a Type “A” FA. I can’t imagine us NOT offering him Arb. And if he comes back, he can DH for another year. He’d do better than Big Poopie.

Why?
It’s probably one of my favorite sites. Though with all this Twitter crap, they do seem to put anything up now no matter how crazy…
But it’s still fun to speculate.

I'll take Lackey and Abreu
If Figgins goes I am ok with it, I want him back, but I won’t be pissed if he walks. I love Vlad, but I would not like to see them resign him. He played in a 100 games this year which is probably what he’ll play in next year and he gave average numbers.
First we had a Salmon and now we have a Trout, let's see the same results.

I thought this was a very interesting factoid:
• Tim Lincecum did not allow a single home run at home this year.
very impressive

The Angels didn't get a home run off him? I didn't remember that.

If I remember right
We shelled him in the very late game with a bunch of singles and doubles. You know, standard Angel’s baseball.

Eh, old news?!
Did anyone read what Heyman wrote, that was then posted on mlbtraderumors, then here? Here you go:
"The Angels made an offer to Bobby Abreu, who is finishing up a one-year deal that will pay him at least $6MM. Heyman says “no progress has been reported thus far.” Abreu said in September that he wants to return."
Sounds like Heyman is referring to the deal that was put on the table a couple months ago by the Angels, saying that there has been no progress reported since then.
In other news, there has been no progress to the US putting another man on the moon.
