Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

If you happen to be pulling up to our favorite tailgating lot off Orangewood this Thursday, prepare to be turned away. Where can we tailgate? Do I have to go to Throwbacks and hope to knock back some beer with Hud?

From the Article: "But he typically raises his rates during the playoffs to $15 to $18 – the stadium is expected to raise its rates, too. So in one game, he could bring in more than $6,000 in gross revenue."

How high does the stadium make prices now?

RIP: The TJ Lot

aka the tortilla factory lot.

TJ lot was gold. RIP

So was/is the RV parking (to the right of the TJ lot) Ask for RV parking and the Exit is Elite.
You either know or you don’t.

ssshhhhh. A lil free HH tidbit.

The Mexican food factory was next door.

Unless they tore down the fences too.

2211 was the warehouse I worked at before we moved and they tore it down. It was great: I could park there for free!

I have nothing important to say.

BTW

I will never go to throwbacks as long as they have their affiliation with AW. Fuck Chug, Adam and co.

But then again I’m a hater like that.

the Throwbacks guy is just trying to earn a living

The ChugAW Messageboard fat guys make way more out of their relationship with the bar than the bar brags about being mentioned on a messageboard.

This is wrong.

The family should have been given the opprotunity to hire security guards (off-duty APD). They could also have been given the chance to make it a valet lot that considers the sobriety of the potenial driver before handing back the keys.

This is irrelevant given the situation we are in

We need to win games right now, not bitch about parking prices. Priorities.

This story has little to do with baseball.

Liberty is actually a higher priorty to me than baseball and even the Angels.

I have not had the money to go to any games this year let alone a play-off game. The price of parking near the stadium holds little interest to me. However, when an American businessman is incapacitated from doing business without being given a proper chance to do business “correctly,” it does interest me.

Perhaps your time living under the yolk of western European socialism has dulled your sense of American freedom. (I assume you have the privilge of being an American.) The government should NOT have the far reaching tentacles to reach into a citizen’s everyday life without better cause. If said citizen’s business causes a problem for society than a remedy should first be offered. Shutting down this business, this livelihood, without a chance of mediation is just wrong.

I believe that you’ve written that you are a journalist. You can out-debate me, you can out-write me. You can probubly make me look like a fool. But nothing I’ve written here has anything to do with the price of parking.

Who goofed? I've got to know.

I agree 100%

I know we are slowly witnessing the socialist over throw of this country, but this is the United States and anyone in their right mind would agree that they deserve to make money with their business.

What’s next? All restaurants around the stadium should be closed too so that only food can be bought at the stadium? Maybe only Anaheim sanctioned gas stations should be open too.

This is absolute bull shit. But this is where we are headed. The ignorant, uninformed, masses are throwing away our rights to big government so they can get more handouts for themselves off the backs of others.

Sorry for the rant. I just woke up and this pissed me off.

remember no politics talk here

as much as i love to talk about politics, which i do, it needs to be separate from our baseball discussion.

it IS about liberty I agree

I don’t think it is about socialism – a savvy capitalist can go to city hall and bribe his way to his own ends when there is no integrity in the administration there.

Does anyone honestly think that if the parking lot owner had not pulled out 2 grand in cash to the city employee who came by to shut him down that the lot would be closed? That is what disgusts me – the lack of accountability in the process set upby administrators for their benefit rather than the benefit of the people.

Yeah...

not smart to attack highland… he kicks literary ass. But your argument is clear.

To highlandhalo:

I think this topic is perfectly relevant to our present time and is among our priorities. This site’s big enough for every priority… even the nit-picky ones.

I assume it's not really a money issue for people...

as they charge slightly more than the other “private” lots across Orangewood. I miss the $5 McDonald’s dirt lot on St. College though.

Where’s everyone tailgating now?

What they want

is for you to spend way too much money drinking at a local bar which pays taxes to the city.

Of course, that’s not what will end up happening for most people. The usual side effect of the anti-alcohol crusade is that when you attempt to prevent people from drinking, you’re really just driving it underground and making it more dangerous for all of us.

It was only a matter of time. I hope this is only for playoff games…

by ginbejury on Oct 7, 2009 10:02 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

this guy could make almost $500,000 per season in parking revenue...

that is all cash. i hope he was paying his taxes on that.

by thejd on Oct 7, 2009 10:40 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

someone on OC Reg

estimated it at like $275,000, but I’m not sure that included playoffs. so probably somewhere in between is the truth.

I think the guy was paying taxes, but you never know if they underreported. bottom line it wasn’t permitted / zoned for public parking, so they got rid of him on a technicality.

Free parking at Throwbacks?

I’ve never ventured over, and I hate the playoff parking situation.

That small business park

right behind the Ayres Hotel on Douglass is where I park almost every time. It’s usually $5 during the season (it was disappointingly $10 when I went there prior to a Yankees game this season), and run by the same guy every time. He’s had a couple really cute puppies with him the last few times I’ve been by, too.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Oct 7, 2009 11:51 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Plus

for the money, it’s probably the easiest/shortest walk to and from the stadium of any of the non-stadium parking.

by Caseys Kiss of Death on Oct 7, 2009 11:52 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

what about

the Hooters Lot? isn’t it usually $5?

I’m sure it’s going to (at least) double for the playoffs, but just sayin that’s another option…
