AUUGHHH WHY SOTH WHY? Soth Publishes Game One Line-up--Featuring Jeffy Mathis!
Why on G-d's green earth Soth would start Black Hole Mathis IN A FREAKING PLAYOFF GAME IN WHICH OFFENSE IS KEY, is completely beyond me.
I have seen no evidence that Mathis' "D" makes so big a difference with Lackey.

Lackey's preference...
Watch Big John’s pre-series interview and it will explain this choice. Lackey clearly favors the game Mathis calls…

I don't think it was clear.
He said he’d be surprised if it wasn’t Mathis, but that it didn’t matter.
What I don’t get is that Big John is always complaining about a lack of run support. Could it be that having Mathis catch all his games is a big factor in that? I think it’s a very real possibility. Call me simple, but if he wants run support, he should opt for the guys that can drive in runs. Or maybe he really thinks Mathis saves more runs than Napoli drives in. If so, I’d like to see the proof.
This season is my best chance to get called out of the stands to pitch.

S.O.B.!!!
Soth’s Mathis crush infuriates me. This was the 2nd season in a row where we could have had a catcher hitting 30+ HRs if he had just gotten enough ABs.
It’s not like Nappy is so bad calling a game, or moving behind the plate that it makes Mathis worth it. Plus, Nappy actually threw out more runners this year than Mathis and had fewer passed balls.

I don’t see anything that shows me Mathis is that much better behind the plate. His fielding % this season is a negligible .02 higher. He threw out FEWER runners than Nap, and had MORE past balls. I guess it just all comes down the intangible “calls a better game.”

Sorry for the weird double post
I paged back then forward before I had clicked “post” and my post was gone. So, I rewrote it. Then, it mysteriously appeared as posted. Hmmm.

It's all about CERA, baby, apparently!

Let's hope so!
And then let’s hope it’s in a GOOD way!

I guess we have to defer to Scioscia's superior understanding
and pray for a pinch hitter if Jeffy comes up in a crucial situation.

Yes
I imagine this is the case. Perhaps Soth is hoping Jeffrey’s defense keeps the game at least close if the Halos aren’t scoring runs and then brings in the Big Guns in Napoli in the late innings to boost the line-up and get things going? Much like the magic water in SpaceJam or something?
RIP Nick Adenhart.

But that water wasn't magic,
Success is psychological…
