Every game in the playoffs ...

is a a “must-win” game – especially in a short-series.

When you’re in a race to win 3 games out of 5, it’s VERY important to win Games, 1 2 and 3.

Just asked the ’82 Angels who blew a 2-game lead to the Brewers (blegh); or the 86 Angels, who blew a 3-1 lead to Boston (RIP, Donnie Moore)

"And the Anaheim Angels are the Champions of Baseball!"

by Grichfan on Oct 8, 2009 12:06 PM PDT reply actions

They didn't win any Games 1 in 2002

but it sure would be nice to crush the Sux with a sweep.

Sure hope that’s the theme for Game 3 in Fenway, not Game 1 in Anaheim.

and YES ...

this is a BIG GAME so big, I’d call it a “MUST WIN” game. Set the tone. I expect nothing less than a 15-run margin of victory for the Halos.

ESPN put it best

for us the key is the first batter….if Lackey can get Elsburry out its huge! remember last year he doubled to lead off i know he didnt score but i have to agree with ESPN on this one

What a bizarre fanbase.

2 out of 3 of you are calling game 1 of a 5 game series a “must win.” You realize what “must win” means, right? and that if you lose and then win game 2, it will be tied?

But yeah you’re definitely right that the key is the first batter, forget the other 40 AB’s. They don’t matter.

How about the Boston bandwagon for bizarre? Most of your fanbase couldn’t name 3 guys on the Red Sox. Hell most still think Manny is still there. You believe in curses like a bunch of back woods idiots scared of voodoo. Boston woman look like truck lot lizards or freaks from the circus. Boston fans have no class and they infest stadiums like cockroaches. I could go on forever. But instead I will just say enjoy your cold world series-less winter.

Great point...

however, it is a must win. If the Sox win game 1, the team is thinking (along with the fans) “Here we go again…”

If we win game 1, no matter what happens in game 2, I still think the Halos win the series. Coz then the pressure is on the Sox to win both in Fenway and the Halos are thinking “we only need one of two” and are playing more relaxed.

If the Sox don’t win both in Fenway, we come home for game 5 (and subsequently win).

I love this team.

I don't blame Scioscia for starting Mathis

Napoli will pinch hit, if needed, in the late innings. And it’s not like Napoli was on a huge tear for the last two months like last year. He was okay the last week, but the month before that was brutal. He had a .300 batting average at some point in August.

I feel the need, the need...for speed!

by Gorbachav5 on Oct 8, 2009 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Besides

Napoli WILL get the start against Beckett and hopefully hit another home run.

by ryanfea on Oct 8, 2009 2:29 PM PDT up reply actions

Naps won't face Beckett...

in an unfortunate turn of events for the Red Sox, Abreu gets his revenge on a line-drive come-backer that hits Beckett and knocks him out of the game. Beckett is fine after the incident but is DONE for the remainder of the 2009 postseason.

It's NOT OK. It was gonna be hard enough listening to a team

that knows next to nothing about baseball and is pre-disposed to pull for the Sox. But having THEIR announcers call the game? Disgusting. I HATE the media. >:(

postseason.tv advice

I’m about to suck it up and buy one of these packages to watch games on teh interwebs. Any advice about which one I should get? As annoying as the commentators are, I want to hear the play-by-play in case I happen to walk away… I can’t figure out whether the $10 package has audio.

Advice?

Gracias in advance.

by cath619 on Oct 8, 2009 6:02 PM PDT reply actions

I don't know for a fact

but in my experience all TV packages have included gameday audio as well.

by rspencer on Oct 8, 2009 6:03 PM PDT up reply actions

I just got that email. It's 9.95 for all post season games.

do you have the number to call? you can ask before you pay..866-800-1275

by ladybug on Oct 8, 2009 6:05 PM PDT up reply actions

on hold now

but i’ll definitely share my findings… i’m just skeptical because it’s not spelled out explicitly in the postseason.tv description.

damn, i wish i had a tv right now.

by cath619 on Oct 8, 2009 6:10 PM PDT up reply actions

ok

guy who sounds like he’s 12 says that the postseason.tv package includes tbs audio.

here goes!

by cath619 on Oct 8, 2009 6:12 PM PDT up reply actions

I think it does

It tried to tell me I was blackout restricted last night and then said it was going to redirect to Gameday Audio…but that was when I inadvertently clicked on “Mlb.tv” instead of “Postseason.tv,” which wasn’t blackout restricted so who knows…I also had a GameDay Audio package to begin with from the regular season…so let me know, too, what you find out!

weird

The first time I clicked on postseason.tv, after the window loaded I got a message that said game was blacked out (wtf?). Closed window, clicked same, loaded fine. Remains to be seen about the audio tho.

I’m so excited!!!
