Vlad to the Rangers?
So I'm sure all or at least most of you have heard the rumors that the Rangers are interested in signing Vladimir Guerrero. I'm surprised nobody has said anything on here about it yet so I thought I'd make a post about it.
Anyways, if Vlad did sign with Texas, how would you feel about it?
Personally, I would be kind of pissed off. Not necessarily at Vlad but just the fact that he would be playing with our most heated division rival (in my opinion). I love Vlad and what he has done for the Angels so I don't want to hate him but I would almost have to if he played for the Rangers. I cannot stand them, mainly because of Marlon Byrd and Ian Kinsler. They are Class-A Douchebags.
Also, I'd kinda be scared given Vlad's career numbers in Texas. But then again, those numbers were amassed against horrid Texas pitching over the years. But still, it is a scary thought.

Wow
But least of my worries.
‘Cause if we here, typing away at the anonymity of the internet can devise a scheme to keep Vlad and his Ma in Anaheim, I’m sure Arte and Tony can do better.

group of 3
I somehow justify it by spending time with a “friend”/client… I’m not too excited about the art exhibits in Laguna , but I have been a lil successful in the past.
I have a whole shpiel about "Beach Art"
Bottom line is it is all bad. And is there such a thing as a truly great great restaurant at any beach?

There used to be a kickass breakfast joint on PCH in Huntington Beach
Owner/operator was a 20 year-old kid with one employee, the waitress. Breakfast only. Eggs and omelettes. He closed up at 1pm and spent the rest of each day surfing out his back door. Lived above the joint. Ambiance was neighborhood potluck. Grab an empty seat along one of the benches at any table and say hello to whomever you sat nest to. Pass the newspaper. No airs, no expectations, food was totally acceptable (hard to screw up breakfast).
But the idea! The idea was golden!! All of his patrons, and they were legion, ate there essentially to live a lifestyle of ultimate freedom, vicariously through the owner. Dining there ranked among the very best restaurant experiences of my life. And it mandated that the joint was right smack dab on the waterfront. It wouldn’t work anywhere else.
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
And what happened to this place?
Or was that kid you? ;-D

Wasn't me. Dunno what happened.
I moved out of state for several years, and never went back.
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
wow
2 cool!
How long ago was this? If I don’t recall.. I’m sure one of my uncles will.
Do you remember Wimpys?
Yeah, I recall Wimpy's
But something tells me that the Wimpy’s I recall most was the one in Orange, on Glassell at Collins.
The breakfast joint would have been around 1975…
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
Wimpy's was just to the right of Main (by 1 block) if you are facing the pier.
They were know for their malts…not so much their food.

Rockin Taco, Sir!
Laguna. Blackened tofu mushroom burger with mild guac.
This carnivore says freaking delicious.
Not sure if it fits your ‘restaurant’ definition, since it’s kind of a bohemian stand, but if you’ve never been, and never shall, oh you poor hungry soul.

No No No. no beach art...
…Actually Worse. I have a series of canvases I call my “Ikea Art” there’s a lot of time that goes into the finished work, but it’s still has a very very Ikea feel. I use all spray paint, but you would never think.
I’m not sure I have experienced any “truly great” restaurant at the beach with the exception of Mexico.
Personally
I think he’ll have a big year if he signs with Texas, similar to Sammy Sosa in 2006. It’s going to be sad seeing him in that Rangers uniform but I think his time is over with the Angels.
Worry about our starting pitching, not a 35 year-old DH
If Vlad’s mom really likes living in Anaheim, he’ll be back.
He'll be back in Anaheim...
With a huge paycut and a two year deal to finish off his HOF worthy career with the Angels.

Some of the blogs are mentioning
2 yrs / 19 to get Vlad just like Abreu.
I kinda think Abreu is a bit more productive at this stage if for no other reason than he can play RF (sorta.)
I’d like to see the Angels re-sign Vlad to DH for 2 / 14 with PA incentives to push it up to 2 / 16
Thanks for the 'sorta'
Otherwise here you’d find the lengthy description of how every time a pop goes to right I say “oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap!”

We cannot have it both ways.
We can’t sit here and be torn up about spending large amounts of cash on a once-gloriously player who is breaking down in front of our very eyes, and then turn around and fear some other team doing that very thing.
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
Vlad's SLG trend is alarming
2004: .598
2005: .565
2006: .552
2007: .547
2008: .521
2009: .460
2010: ?
I appreciate the great years Vlad provided for the Angels. During his six seasons with the team, the Angels averaged 94.5 wins a season (a sensational .583 winning percentage). I consider it fortunate that I was witness to many displays of Vlad’s awesome hitting skills.
But given his decline in power, lack of plate discipline, and limited role as a DH, it’s time to move on. Good baseball decisions cannot be clouded by sentiment, which is why the Angels were able to part ways with such Angel greats like Percy, GA, and Frankie.
Factor in pervasive injuries in a few of those later years and it doesn't look quite half as bad.
RIP Nick Adenhart.

"Pervasive injuries"
Says it all. Vlad ain’t getting any younger, or healthier. I DO think he has a little bit left in the tank, especially if is a DH only. But I would be very careful and would NOT build my team around him or any expectations of big numbers.
Unless, maybe he meets A-Rods cousin….

If the rangers sign Vlad ...
his team win shares will go outta the roof, and that’s with him sitting on the bench all season.
Imagine if he plays 2 or 3 time a week. Texas will easily win the Division, ALCS, WS, World Cup, Olympics, and Jeopardy.
The answer "Texas Rangers"
The question “What team Managed to win the World Series with Valdimir Guerrero on its roster.”
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Vladdy as a starter this past year....
and the Angels were barely over .500.
Vladdy as a starter for the Rangers would be the final kiss of death for them.
( Until Ron Washington, in a very un-Scioscia like move, planted Vlad’s nalgas grande firmly on the pine.)
No other team knows Vlad’s gigantic holes in his swing than the Angels. Our catchers and pitchers would chew Vladdy up into mince-meat.
Did Vlade have sex with your sister?
or your brother? or you? Your venom is unbelievable. Their are lies, damned lies and statistics. I honestly believe that as a full time DH (which should keep him healthy) his numbers will be better than anything out there for a comparable price.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
that was supposed to be a reply to R Munkee
but evidently my emotions over rode my ability to hit the reply bitton.
Crap
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
So, because you and I disagree about Vlad's...
“production”, or value to the team, you have to resort to baseless insults in a feeble attempt to persuade me with your “opinion”?
I learned a long time ago that it is senseless to undergo a battle of wits with an unarmed protagonist.
the problem with "R.MUNKEE"
is that he plays stupid with each unique post and doggedly refuses to accept the context he has created as a Vlad hater.
Nobody is going to address a single point he makes when it is universally understood that he does not like Vlad no matter what Vlad does.
DEAR R.MUNKEE:
You blew it, dude. You have no credibility as an objective baseball watcher. You are a hater. Get it? Nobody wants to buy your overpriced real estate either, loser.
3 things, Reverand H.
First, I’m not stupid, nor are my opinions.
Second, just because I dislike something someone does, doesn’t make me a hater of that person.
Third, I’m not here to sell real estate.
As for my credibility, I have honed my opinions about baseball since before you were born, Whippersnapper.
I am entitled to my opinion – and I am not the only one in this place who thinks it will be unwise to bring Vladdy back.
As for the post below, what gives you any idea that Vlad will be healthy enough to play most of the games at Texas Stadium, next year? He was SUPPOSED to be healthy THIS season, after undergoing knee surgery last winter. In his condition, considering both the way he swings, and the way he walks, how could you possibly expect him to be healthier next year, than in 09? It’s not very likely, at his age.
Thinking bringing back Vlad is unwise is ok
Having a personal vendetta against Vlad and his career with the Angels is quite another

HELLOOO! Vladdy WAS the full-time DH this past year, apart fron 2 games in the field. Why would you expect him to stay healthy for a full season? Tell him to stop flailing at every pitch? Tell him not to run the bases with idiotic abandon? Good luck with THOSE suggestions.
At his age there is NO good reason to expect Vladdy to suddenly get healthier.
He tore his pec muscle…That is totally unrelated to his knee injury… If he does stay healthy, and that is a question with all players, and plays in Texas….you could see some amazing numbers..
Vlad is the same age as Jeter,A-Rod and a few others, now those 2 are a little more ’athletic" then Vlad but same age and A-Rod missed a month as well last year..
Give the guy a break,a 12 year great career and you s*** on him like he never did anything for this franchise.
That is, of course, if it really is true that Vlad was born in 75.
His birthdate has already slipped one year.
Also, we have to adjust for “Expo Years”. That is 2 baseball years for every true year played on the Montreal concrete. For all we know, Vlad is 42 in baseball years.
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
Vlad healthy for 70 -80 games in Arlington as a DH,
315 20 hr 65 rbi..
What he does on the road is anyones guess, but he hits like crazy in Texas….
It will be all about if Vlad wants to hit like he did against the Yanks when he was taking some pitches, but he sure can hit in the heat..
I don’t think he is a total wash away yet…Money will be the isssue.. Here is to a healthy Vlad and a props for all he did as an Angel (and may do more)
315 20 hr 65 rbi..
except for the inflated BA, this sounds very similar to numbers put up by Mike Napoli. And everyone seems ok with his numbers. So sign Vlad, drop him to 6 in the lineup and accept those numbers from him. Better than anything else we got, or can get.
When all I hear is we can’t sign Holliday, don’t sign Bay, what options for DH does that leave us. Willits in LF and Rivera in RF with Abreau at DH? If you think that is a step up, then put the crack pipe down now.
I would rather have Vlad’s diminished numbers, than anything Willits can provide over a full season.
And I just want to point out that I was the first to suggest a trade for Gonzales from the Pads. You all chopped me down like i was infected wood.

You gotta expect more from an OF or DH than a Catcher. Of course, some want Naps as DH.

the FIRST to suggest a trade for Gonzales?
Adrian Gonzalez? You joined this site in AUGUST 2009. People have been screaming to trade for him as long as he’s been in the bigs.
But, most everyone who makes that trade suggestion offers the Padres crap.
I love this team.

i would be sad to see vlade go to the rangers, it wouldnt cause me to hate him tho. Cuz like glaus, kennedy, spiezo, ecktein, I’m gonna like them reguardless of what team they play for even if it was the sox, yanks, or rangers.
In Kobe we trust!
"...even if it was the sox, yanks or rangers."
Err, and the Orange County Flyers too? Since that’s where Spiezio’s playin’? Not drinking anymore (or less? Hope it’s the former…) and rockin’ a .217 AVG.
Driven into right-center field, Erstad says he has it...the Angels, world champions!
No more Vlad
Why would Angels fans want to give Vlad 20 million over the next two years when it is clear that he can’t even walk up to the plate without limping? In two more years, the guy won’t even be able to walk anymore.
Invest that money in a Matt Holliday or Jason Bay, move Juan Rivera to DH, and platoon the outfielders with the DH from time to time to save their legs.
And take a look at the massive decline in his numbers over the last three years.
Sorry, but Vladdy has worn out his OC welcome.

Scalia wore out his welcome a long time ago
But for the right price (5-7 mill) for hopefully 1 at most 2 years, then yeah Vladdy should stay. Otherwise, no there are better options out there.
RIP #34
I don't think the Rangers would outbid the Angels for Vlad
If I remember correctly Texas is rumored to be offering one year for $3-5 million + incentives and I think the Angels would offer that much provided Vlad doesn’t hold out until February and the Angels are already set with who they’ve got.
I think Vlad has another good year left in him.

Vlad showed a discipwin this post season
Seriously, I think Abreu’s lessons finally started to pay off even on him. Probably took longer because of his injuries from playing RF and the fact that he’s been such a good hitter for so long that he hasn’t had to listen to anyone.
Keep him out of the outfield (DH) and continue to have Abreu show him “discipwin” and it will pay off.
