Should Troy Glaus be our DH?
Rotoworld is reporting that Mozeliak says he won't be back with the Cards. He missed all but 14 games last season, and he's 33 years old. Speculation is that he'll have to move to 1B, or an AL team.
So the question is whether Troy Glaus can be a cheaper DH alternative to Vlad? It's risky in the same way that Frank Thomas and Mike Sweeney and Mike PIazza were risky to Oakland. But, remember that season that Thomas had in Oakland? In the spacious confines of the Colosseum? IF Glaus is healthy, why couldn't he do that much and maybe more in Anaheim? He should/may/might/hopefully/too lazy to look up money figures, cost half as much as Vladdy. IF he's healthy, he's a lock for 25+ homers and a solid OBP and a less than Vlad, but still decent average.
If it were anyone else, I'd say hell no. But it's a hometown hero, right? Maybe 1 year, 5 million, plus incentives, and a vesting option for a second year? Considering his injury history, he'd be foolish to expect a multiyear offer and big money, right?

Meh
With our already present glut of DH’s and Troy’s known past of roid use, I doubt the club goes for it, as nostalgic and possibly good a move it would be. I might have done it a couple years ago, but not now.
RIP Nick Adenhart.

Absolutely right
One of the signs of steroid abuse is an accelerated breakdown of the physique after discontinuing the drugs. Glaus is chipping away before our eyes.
Besides, he has a spot on our DL still reserved for him. He played only one season’s worth of games between 2003 and 2004. That was perhaps more the reason why the Angels decided to go with McPherson than any talent McPherson might have had.
If he was the Glaus of 2002, then sure. My guess is that he’s the Glaus of 2009. Pass.

Angels management doesn't have an sympathy for past roid users.
If you look back at the MItchell Report and at the Angels players on that list, all of them were released, or let go around the time when they were listed as using them. Except for HGH jr. of course.
Uh yeah, that was the point.
RIP Nick Adenhart.

I think Brandon Wood can do a better Troy Glaus impression than Troy Glaus.
What do you need a fancy suit for, Charlie, you ain't got no job to wear it to.
Yes.

You know his wife rides horses.
Ok, that had nothing to do with nothing, I’m buying this scenario. Naps is possible trade bait with the catching talent in the system, Vlad very well might take his mom elsewhere, and Abreu can still play a passable OF. It doesn’t look like Holliday is headed to Anaheim. Jason Bay, who knows where he ends up. There are endless trade scenarios available for outfielders which would push Abreu/Rivera to the DH spot, but if there isn’t a fit, I do think my boy Troy should come home. Give him an Abreu-lite contract (base + incentives) and see what he can do at DH five or so days a week. Reacquiring Troy Glaus shouldn’t be the first item on the docket, but it could be on the list.

Why move Napoli to have Glaus DH?
Napoli is an inexpensive, healthy version of what Glaus used to be production-wise.
No, I wouldn't move Napoli simply to free up a spot for Troy.
But Napoli could be trade bait in a deal for pitching. We have depth at a few spots, but depending on how free agency shakes out, we may be thin at pitcher (Lackey, Oliver) and one OF/DH spot (Vladdy).
If Vladdy is re-signed and Naps isn’t dealt, then there would be no need to sign Glaus.

Troy is done.
He might hang on for a couple more seasons but he’s so beat up.
Happy Birthday to the ground!
CHONE has Vlad slightly ahead of Troy for 2010
Vlad: .291/.337/.496
Troy: .247/.351/.436
Seeing as Mr. Smith has Troy’s power numbers way down, I would be hesitant.
But it’s still better than anything Christhammer’s come up with.

OK, so Figgy has Vlad ahead of Troy.
