Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

"The Angels added outfielder Peter Bourjos to the 40-man roster, preventing him from being selected by another club in next month's Rule 5 draft. Bourjos, considered the fastest player in the Angels' organization, batted .281 at double-A Arkansas last season, with 16 doubles, 14 triples, six home runs, 32 stolen bases and a .354 on-base percentage.

The Angels also announced that first baseman Kendry Morales would switch his uniform number from 19 to 8 and outfielder Terry Evans would switch from No. 64 to No. 17."

you know

sometimes players wear well known numbers to show RESPECT the player to formerly wear it..

Until spring training starts - let's go Cardinals and Suns!

Erstad sucked – so who cares.

Just razzing you all...

Most folks on here know that I have a massive, illogical hatred for Erstad. I admit it is over-the-top….

Hardly anyone ever mentions Terry Evans.

I think he makes the 25-man roster in 2010, unless he’s part of a big trade.

With some tuteledge from Abreu, maybe his other tools will shine. He’s fast, powerful, atheletic, has a good arm, and apparently keeps quiet. He can play all three outfield positions, but it seems that this past year they groomed him for RF.

Maybe the way the Angels conduct business is changed, but there was a time that it was accurate to say that TEvans would get a shot due to the fact that they had already invested $4MM in him (approximately 1/2 of Jeff Weaver’s salary when he was DFA’d).

AGREE!

I hope Terry gets a full time shot. He’s a good guy with a great attitude, and if he cuts down on the swings + misses, he’ll be a good big leaguer. I’m glad he got a lower number too, maybe on some level it gets him into the “big league” mentality and that he belongs with the big squad.

Well

Way to rain on my f-ing parade!

Evans will likely be a part of the battle for the 4th/5th OF in the spring, depending on how the roster shakes out. If he has a monster spring, how would you not keep him over Willits or Petit?

I understand your thought process,

But Pettit, and maybe even Willits, have options left.

I don’t think TEvans has any options left. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think they either have to put him on the 25-man roster, trade him, release him, or have him clear waivers to return to AAA.

I doubt Willits has

any option years left.

It’s 3 years of shuttling back and forth – I’m sure Willits has done that.

….Looks at BBRef…..

2006 He played 28 games (if Sept. call-up it doesn’t count)

Then a minimum of 49 games in the last three years – so he is out of options, I am sure.

Evans only played in LA in 2005 and 2007. He has an option year left if I am calculating things correctly.

RIP Nick...

Interesting Stuff:

Study this for a while.

Look what happened when they experimented with him leading off: .352/.403/.656 in 24% of his AB’s. I’m sure they were just trying to get him some AB’s and fastballs, maybe hoping to instill some patience, but damn!

I’d be interested in seeing the guy get a chance to play a bit after a few sessions with Abreu.

It didn't link.

Type in “Terry Evans”.
