Angels 40-Man Roster Set at 38

As the rights to exclusive negotiations with their free agents closed, like every major league club, the Angels set their 40-Man Roster yesterday. It stands at 38. Here they are listed in order of the earliest that each can become a free agent. The final move was the addition of Peter Bourjos to the roster in order to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft in December.

Yeah other than Hunter....

and maybe the catchers….I can’t see the Angels wanting to dump any of those guys if they continue to maintain their current level of play.

This question is for someone smarter than I...

Which minor leaguers are eligible for the Rule 5 draft this year? Won’t they have to add those that they want to protect? That takes place in December, so I assume that those last two spots will be filled by minor-leaguers if they don’t sign anyone soon. So, any minor-leaguer with 4 or 5 years in MiLB (depending on signing age) would need to ascend to the 40-man or be exposed in that draft, and possibly being drafted by another organization. Of course, that organization has to keep them on the 25-man roster all season – but it has happened before. Johann Santana was a rule-five guy

Looking at that list – Budde, Brown and Evans would be the most likely to get the boot if a spot needs opening up, methinks.

Here is a link to a Wiki article on the Rule 5 draft…
