Rory Markas - This Date in Angels Blogging History

On this date two years ago, Rory Markus was promoted to broadcasting 75 Games on television in advance of the 2008 season. Read my HALOS HEAVEN report from then.

The die was cast two years ago today for last week's controversial Thanksgiving Massacre, giving Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler their walking papers in favor of Rory and Mark Gubicza as the full time television game crew for the Angels.

Sad day for me

As primarily a radio listener, that was a sad occasion, because not only do I think Markas and Smith are the best Angel announcers, they are better working together than when working with another broadcast partner.

You had to figure they were looking to replace Physioc and Hudler when they first tried Mota, then when he didn’t work out they split time with Markas/Gubicza because they were looking for something else.

I’m sad that my favorite team on radio are no more, but at the same time I’m glad that this switching around month to month finally ended. I thought some of the criticisms leveled toward Markas and Physioc were due in part to this. Terry Smith was the Broadcaster of the Year as far as I’m concerned for having to adjust between a silent partner and a motormouth partner. Now everybody will do a better job.

I sure hope I can adjust to Mota’s heavy accent.
