MLB Trade Rumors is talking Elias Rankings
The 2009 Elias Rankings have been released, and Ed Price of AOL FanHouse has a full list of the Type-A and B free agents.
* Chone Figgins qualifies as a Type-A, not a Type-B as projected.
* Melvin Mora qualifies as a Type-A, not a Type-B as projected.
* Vladimir Guerrero qualifies as a Type-B, not a Type-A as projected.
* Gregg Zaun from no compensation to Type-B.
* Jerry Hairston Jr. from Type-B to no compensation.
* Hideki Matsui from Type-B to no compensation.
* Aubrey Huff from Type-B to no compensation.
Does this change how we deal with both Figgins and Vlad?

Yep.
Figgie might not see as many offers now. And Vlad might see a bit more offers…
Happy Birthday to the ground!

Well we were never going to offer arbitration (I think!) so it's a moot point with Vlad.
But definitely it affects our Figgy talks, and for that matter any potential talks with Matsui are slightly juicier for the front office.

Nevermind what I said about Matsui, I was thinking Type B free agents worked differently than they do.
Great news about Figgy being Type A though.

I NEVER understood Figgy not being projected as a Type A
I mean he was 1 off the runs lead in the AL, 3rd in Stolen bases and played great defense.
How can that not be a type A????

Well, he is. But the projections are just formulas, right? Not people hand picking names. And anyway keep in mind that it takes into account last year too, not just this year.
