So, how do we solve the pitching problem now?
With Lackey pretty much gone, Halladay almost definitely going to Philly, and Lee most likely going to Seattle, who should we go after now?
It seems the best free agent starting pitcher left is Joel Pineiro, unless the Lackey or Halladay/Lee deals amazingly fall apart, and honestly I'm not sure if he would make sense.
So who else is there?
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/features/freeagents?positionId=15&season=2009
Maybe Erik Bedard? Though he doesn't really fit the profile of #1, he could be pretty good.
This is a really tough situation we've ended up in.

Do not panic.
The last time the FO panicked, we got Shea Hillensuck.
Angels baseball. We do what we must, because we can -- HaloDutch
Our rotation sucks
Weaver is garbage.
Kazmir has like a 5.50 career ERA.
Saunders has never won more than, like, 2 games in a season
Santana throws soft shit that gets hammered.
Fuck, we’re screwed.

Trade them all for Granderson.
Make him pitch every day and we’ll go 161-1 (even someone as great as Granderson is good for one bad day per year).
Four number 3s?
Do you watch baseball, by chance?

yep. plenty.
wouldn’t feel confident with any of those guys on the bump in a big game against a legitimate #1.
RIP NA
I'd take Saunders, Kazmir, or Santana as well
In any given year, all of these guys are capable of pitching like an ace.
I was gonna say 2002...but went for my answer instead
“don’t trust them” or whatever, but saying all four of them are #3s is disingenuous at best. Weaver especially proved he is anything but.

No stupid deals that bring long-term commitments for mediocre talent.
A one year deal for someone or no one. Save the cash for next year.
we dont have a pitching problem
though I wouldnt mind Bedford and one more bullpen guy plus oliver back
Confidence breeds success, self-doubt breeds failure
Sign Bay.
Trade Rivera and an infielder for rotation/bullpen help.

You want to know something?
Kazmir is every bit as capable of having a better year than Lee than vice versa. And he’s younger and a fuckload cheaper, and the Mariners, if they want to keep Lee, are gonna pay big…stupidly big. Nevermind that the talent they probably gave up.
by Caseys Kiss of Death on Dec 14, 2009 1:59 PM PST reply actions
That's one year
which is why I said he’ll be a lot cheaper if the Mariners want to extend him. We have Kazmir for the next three years if we want him, over which time he will make a max of $33.5 million. On the other side, Cliff Lee makes $9 million this year, and afterward will make in the ballpark of $20 million a year in the years immediately following, making him about 15 million more expensive over the next three years.
And if Lee DOESN’T get a deal worth 20+ million a year after this year? Well, it means he flamed out in Seattle, in which case comparisons to Kazmir are irrelevant.

Just saw what Seattle gave up in talent. (speculated)
It is steep!
Play Wood already. Willits sucks.

Here
The sources said Phillipe Aumont — a Canadian right-hander — is among the players headed from Seattle to Toronto in the deal; the source added the Philadelphia is expected to send one of its outfield prospects, possibly Michael Taylor, to the Blue Jays.
Outfielder Michael Saunders and right-hander Brandon Morrow were also among the Seattle prospects in play.

His contract is too fat and that would hinder the Angels from making any additional significant moves.
Unless of course…..we can somehow get Atlanta to take GMJ off of our hands.

Our rotation is still one of the best in Baseball
It would be nice to add a solid #4 or 5 type pitcher so we don’t have to use Palmer. Bullpen help is a bigger issue at the moment.
See my other post...
I think at this point it’s probably 4th best in the AL, behind the Sox, Mariners and Yankees. That’s pretty solid.
Greinke.....
done and done….
LOL.
Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work. - Peter Gibbons

sign chapman and ben sheets
one could help now (sheet) the other can help later (chapman).
i'm not sold on chapman.
unpolished and 21 which means he can help when? 2012? 2013? and we have to pay ace money for that? no thanks.
ben sheets is interesting, tho. whatever happens, i hope that it’s thought out and not just a panicked reaction to two huge bombs.
"come on, eileen."
Sheets
I was just thinking an incentive laden deal for Ben Sheets

According to the Angels Explorer bar on my browser:
The Halos are gonna do it with depth!
“Pitching depth may help Halos again”
Had I owned the Pittsburgh Pirates, I could have saved America.
that sounds familiar
